  1. Hi! Thanki you for taking the time to report on your cruise. Deck Chair
  2. Hello! I was in a deck 8 cabin before the refit. It was a Panama Canal cruise. Cannot recall the cabin number. I can tell you I would never book a cabin on that deck due to very late night noise from the lido above. It was if someone was roiling a barrel on the deck above. It would come and go. Could never get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, if you want a Britannia club cabin deck 8 is the only deck where they are available. FYI, I am on a waitlist for the QV world cruise from New York to Sydney. I will be sure not to be on deck 8. Good luck. Deck hair.
  3. Hi from America. What are the dining sittings in Britannia dining room? IS the second sitting fixed with same table, waiters and table companions? Thank you and be well. Deck Chair.
  4. Thank you for taking the time to post your observations and experiences. You are a wonderful writer. Deck Chair.
  5. Hi Not that I am a math major, but it appears to me that a side-by-side comparison shows me the BV is a better deal than a single especially since you get the balcony and more space.
  6. Hi! When you board the ship consult the program and check when the staff will be in the dining room to ask about a change or tables or sitting times. If you can, get there early as a line will develop. Also, please keep in mind that early sitting is more popular than second so it may be difficult to accommodate a change. The staff will do everything they can to help. Good luck. Deck Chair.
  7. HI! One thing is very clear from what I have read: No matter what you do or precautions you take including hiding in your cabin there is no guarantee you won't catch something. If one is going to be so concerned, if one is going to worry so much that it takes over your trip much best to stay home. IMHO. Deck Chair
  8. I am paying a 74% single supplement for a BV on the upcoming QM2 voyage from NY to Sydney. Deck Chair.
  9. HI! Wonderful travelogue. Thank you for taking the time to post your experiences. I am wondering if you are missing a true promenade deck on this ship. Deck Chair.
  10. Hi! There is no way 2 dance hosts will be nearly enough especially on the world cruise. That information has to be wrong. Deck Chair.
  11. Hi Terry! What a story and monumental hassle. Hassle is an understatement. So, when is your next cruise??? Be well. Deck Chair
  12. Hi Roy!! No worries from me. No, I did not know where the Volendam has been positioned recently. Nice to know. My last cruise on HAL was the 2005 35 day Voyage of the Vikings on the Maasdam round trip from Boston. If meet you on the Queen Mary 2 I will buy you a drink in the Chart Room. Be well and safe travels. Deck Chair.
  13. Hello! This is what concerns me about the VOLENDAM. The war in Ukraine has been going on for over six months with no end in sight. I don't know what agreement HAL has made with the authorities to house probably close to 2,000 refugees. As scheduled cruises approach it is hard to imagine HAL is just going to unceremoniously dump so many refugees onto the pier. This leads me to think that HAL is going to extend the agreement and cancel upcoming cruises including the 74 day South America cruise leaving booked passengers to seek out alternative arrangements. I am also concerned about the condition of the ship with so many refugees occupying it for so long. Something tells me the ship is going to be worn out, messy and in disarray. Even if the upcoming cruises come off, what is the condition of the ship? Also, will the crew be well trained and experienced? Finally, since the Volendam launched in 1999 one must ask how much longer does she have as a HAL ship? Is HAl going to invest any money into a ship that is now out of sync with its fleet mates. Will HAl allow the ship to slip as it attempts to find a buyer leaving passengers with a mediocre experience ship wise? Also mindful of the cutbacks HAL has instituted. A 74 day South America cruise is not cheap, at least not for me traveling as a solo passenger paying a heft single supplement. So, what would you do? Deck Chair Three star mariner. (94 days.)
  14. Hi! Thinking of booking the Volendam on a 74-day South America cruise departing January 3. Before I make that commitment curious how recent passengers have found her. Don't want to make a mistake. Thank you. Deck Chair.
  15. Hi! Unless you have serious symptoms beyond what you experience with a bad cold you should just stay in your cabin for the protection of others and order from room service. If you report it you will be in for the hassle of your life. Given what has been going on with covid outbreaks on different ships I can see why more and more people are concluding these vaccines and masks are not effective and its of little use to mandate them. Of course, others have different views on this issue. Deck Chair
  16. Hi and thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts and experiences. Did you notice if the second sitting in Britannia was fixed or open? I hope the former. Deck Chair.
  17. Hi! Good thing I have twenty lawyers working on this for me!!!!! Since there have been so MANY breakout cases among vaccinated people doesn't it follow to test everyone prior to boarding vaccinated or not? For the record, I am opposed to any mandates. Think it's time to get back to normal. Deck Chair.
  18. HI Is HAL allowing medical or religious exemptions for the covid vaccine?? Thank you! Deck Chair
  19. Hello from America! I sure wish Saga sailed from United States as does Cunard. It seems like such a great experience on wonderful ships. It is rather inconvenient to fly to UK. Deck Chair.
  20. Hi! Did I miss something? What ship? Thank you. Deck Chair.
  21. Hi! I am booked for 68 days New York to Sydney departing January 3 2023. If the second sitting is not returned to the traditional 8:30 with the same waiters, table and table mates I will cancel. I am a usually a solo traveler and I believe most solo travelers feel the same. Deck Chair.
  22. Hi! I always thought having the wine tasting at the end of the voyage made no sense if Cunard wants passengers to buy the highlighted wines to drink during the voyage. Deck Chair.
  23. Hello! There is not going to be a real promenade deck lined with deck chairs on this ship such as exists on QV, QE and mot especially on the Queen Mary. My understanding is that there is a very narrow 365-degree lane with many views of the sea blocked by lifeboats and machinery. This is not a ship I will sail on. Sorry Cunard. I will stick with the others especially the QM2. Deck Chair
