  1. I see I was unclear, my bad. It's early here in Scotland:) Yes I agree with you above. What I should have said was, does someone in a guarantee have a better chance to win, as they have no cabin?
  2. Long discussion on another thread on how the algorithm may work. I am just curious and would appreciate it if you would indulge me. Has anyone ever won a bid to a better category using 30,000 or 60,000 points for upgrade then have gone on to win a bid? I personally have using a double upgrade but I did not win it by moving the needle. Mine was with live bidding.
  3. Let's throw another wrinkle into it which I know has happened. Someone in a guarantee category that is sold out that actually wins a bid. So there technically is no cabin to have resale value other than on paper.
  4. Stringing you along in the event of a last minute cancellation. It does happen so don't give up hope.
  5. Well at least you are still in the running. I would go back and see if you can bid on other categories as they cancelled the others when yours was....going to be accepted. Good luck
  6. You are correct, the revenue from the bid is identical. But overall revenue is in fact larger for someone who paid rather than pointed up. But you make a great point on cruise next. This is the exact reason why we all it out thoughts out here to try and reason why. I will start a new thread to find out if anyone used points to double up then got a Haven other than live bidding.
  7. But if we use your example, not from a cabin point of view but from a revenue per guest it comes out different. Payed nothing and then $100 bid versus paid $1000 and bid $100. Who is more valuable? I have never won a bid with a double points upgrade to Haven and I must have close to 100 bids over the last couple years. (Several categories on each sailing) Has anyone?? I am on NCL next week and I just paid for Haven. I am on Princess now and again paid for what I wanted.
  8. As long as they don't downgrade you it's usually a win win.
  9. It's all about revenue. How can they make the most. Someone in an OV may have paid less than some in an inside depending on when they booked it or if they used a discount coupon or even a cruise next cert. The inside has a better chance. The only difference is you are allowed to bid two categories higher based on where you are. Inside will not get a Haven opportunity but Balcony will.
  10. Actually bidding MAX does improve your chance of winning over everyone who has not bid max.😁
  11. Wow! Great deal. Congrats. Yes YC1 has a balcony. Look at your room number and a deck plan.
  12. The $960 bid is for the int total or per person? Watch the website daily as there is a good chance they could drop the fare.
  13. Considering how the AC system works, it very well could be a crew member. The air is not being sucked from room to room, but forced out after passing thru a set of cooling coils.
  14. Yes you can book inside then points up to a balcony. It's an equal cross ( or it's supposed to be) meaning ID=BD, IC=BC, ect. But on some ships like Spirit it's wonky. IA gets you a BB it seems. But ID won't get you anything higher than a BD, if even available. Best bet is to always book a IA! That way you get any B based on availability. Aft is out of the question as well as club balcony as well. Yes you get invite to bid. You book (inside cabin)online direct or thru a TA or call NCL. Then just call World points and do the upgrade over the phone. Real easy! You could just call World points and do it all at once. Book, upgrade. Done! Then give it to a TA if you want. (You have two weeks as a rule)
  15. I can get a statement credit so obc is not an issue.
  16. PCC said no. I asked that a few days ago actually as we are 17 points away from Diamond along with a few other questions which I will share. I asked about club balcony to Haven. No! Balcony to club balcony. No Simply it's inside to outside or outside to balcony. No afts either. You cannot redeem points for a free cruise and pay the difference to upgrade. I wanted to use 209,000 points for a free 7 night balcony cruise and pay to upgrade to Haven. Also free cruise includes taxes and fees but no perks. So you need to buy Internet and booze. After doing the math, it is actually cheaper to cash in 200,000+ points for over $2000+ in a statement credit and booking a Balcony with perks. Plus this way I could just buy Haven. But the best value is double upgrades, but we only want Haven now so we might as well use the points for something.
  17. Only the one with the offer has a chance. Other is a no!
  18. Face value is only determined on what you paid originally. You also need to look at original prices, not now in case they have been discounted.
  19. It only states the category, not the cabin number as there might not even be any available today.
  20. No they don't take that into account. It's all about revenue!!! Did you both pay the same for your balcony? If no. Higher paying cabin will get it first. Did you both bid max? If no, many others may be ahead of you. If yes and both paid same for balcony, then first one who bid will get before the other. So don't take the risk
  21. Same on Splendida in April. I agree with you on Gala. Jacket is too heavy.
