  1. I'm sorry your plans got done in by Covid. That's a really crummy spot to be put in. I hope you can find alternate options and make the best of a bad situation. Perhaps you'll be one of the lucky ones that gets a refund in less time than anticipated. I hear a lot of seasoned cruisers not having a lot of sympathy here, but c'mon man. "We" all read these boards enough to know RCL customer service is luck of the draw, that the past year has had a lot of shortfalls in communication and planning, the sales practices are open to interpretation sometimes, and that policies and protocols vary widely depending on the time of day. That's not to say RCL doesn't deliver a great product when it goes smoothly - but when it's bad, it's really bad, and fixing it isn't easy.
  2. With some more time to look at the sailings I indeed see you are correct. Itineraries are there.
  3. 100% this is likely what is going on. For customers - terrible business. For investors - great business. I also suspect there are a lot of itineraries for next year that will be held back from sales until they wipe out the L&S option. I'd wager a lot of the currently existing L&S's on the books are people holding onto great deals from +/- a year ago.... and being strict with the L&S same ship/itinerary is forcing people to the FCC/refund option. Regardless, it's a public traded company - investors are the higher power always.
  4. So the L&S option... this seems like an obvious question... but this is RCL... "Original booking" may be L&S'd - is that last years Explorer to the ABC's which is the true original... or is that the L&S to this year that ended up being "enhanced for our benefit" into the Radiance to St. Lucia/Barbados/Antigua etc?
  5. Was there any criteria similar to the L&S? Or was it a straight move with no price protection etc? Purely a new booking with the previous money? Thanks!
  6. Now everyone knows how it feels to be fully vaxxed but not considered "fully vaxxed" by RCL. Except those in that position still have restrictions once on board.
  7. Oh I realize we can technically still sail..... but figuring out the protocols, how they'll affect the experience, how much extra $$ it'll cost for tests, what tours we can take, can we even get off the ship, when those tests will occur, can we even drive over the border to get to the port etc etc etc....... yeah, bit of a gong show. And the only consistent thing is inconsistency. As you mentioned, it'll all change several times before we sail anyway. LOL.
  8. Thanks. The most clear answer to what appears to be a "Non published" policy. (unless I missed it somewhere) @Ourusualbeach I know someone asked about FCC's..... but are you seeing full refunds being available to mixed/outside 42 days/all the other "hot topic" situations right now?
  9. We sail in November (L&S from 2020) and I have no faith it'll be sorted by then either! LOL We've got 2 under 12 ineligible, 1 mixed and beyond 42 days (both MRna, not that it matters) and 1 unvaxxed (for now). Good luck to us getting that mess sorted out...... oh well, unfortunately lesson learned. No more booking a cruise more than a couple months out.....
  10. Seems to me RCL could avoid a lot of ill will and resolve a LOT of the issues talked about here if they would just say "The policy is X. It is under review, however will not be changed till at least X date. We understand you may be affected by it and we will refund your cruise fare if you do not wish to sail under the policy." At this point anyone who completes a new booking should be aware of what they're getting into. It's the existing bookings that are causing much of the grief I would wager.
  11. LOTS of discussion in this thread...... not just Canadians affected by it..... overwhelming sentiment says give it a bit and it'll change.... Should any Canadians book right now? I'd say 100% no way. It's the ones that have existing bookings/L&S etc etc that are on the hook right now.
  12. Politics Not sure the actual logic or reasons, but you can bet it's based in politics at this point.
  13. My understanding is that right now RCL requires negative PCR tests for some situations (pre-cruise, check in, mid cruise etc etc). Based on the below link it seems that might be a limited time policy as well? Granted, end of year is a decent lead time, but this seems to say the CDC is withdrawing the "emergency use" of PCR tests for Covid? https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs/2021/07-21-2021-lab-alert-Changes_CDC_RT-PCR_SARS-CoV-2_Testing_1.html Based on the current debacle with defining who is actually considered "vaxxed", I really hope they're a little more proactive and clear about any policy changes as a result of this. Then again, maybe I'm interpreting the CDC press release wrong........
  14. Wait till RCL tries to wrap it's policy department around this one........ https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs/2021/07-21-2021-lab-alert-Changes_CDC_RT-PCR_SARS-CoV-2_Testing_1.html I'm not an expert but that seems to indicate they aren't gonna be "allowed" to use PCR tests (or by extension results) for Covid related screening in 6 months........ granted a long lead time..... but who's got faith they'll be proactive and communicate effectively on this one either?
  15. I'm betting they took a whole bunch of refund calls for July/August with that policy...... which got someone's attention real quick.
  16. Thank you. I (and I'm sure other Ontarians in a mix vaxx situation) appreciate your full explanation as always. I guess we'll fall under "further updates as available" for our November booking. Thank you again! It would be nice if they made decisions before final payments but I won't hold my breath.....
  17. @Ourusualbeach I realize things move and change frequently and quickly on this sort of thing, but will you be reaching out to any of your contacts to ask if this means there will be an updated refund policy to capture this? As it stands a great many people will be in a category where a FCC is useless due to mixed vaxx situations. Apologies, looks like you commented on page 3. Are the refunds coming just off a phone call to a rep, or is escalation needed?
  18. According to Royal Caribbean (so perhaps a double check of NCL policy would be good) even a Pfizer + Moderna is unacceptable.
  19. The awful ugly underlying question (for Canadians) I have is what happens when industries/countries start indicating you're not vaxxed in their eyes if you didn't follow the manufacturers guidelines. Did anyone get their second shot within the recommended timeframe? We'd have to re-vaxx the entire population?
  20. Yeah, depending on the day it goes above $100 Canadian as well. We like itineraries with more ports than sea days so it's a no brainer for us to not purchase it.
  21. Now convert that to some other currencies...... you're looking at over $100 a day. But if people buy it, they'll sell it.
  22. Yeah, the only problem is it comes back as a FCC under cruise with confidence that must be booked by april and sail by september of next year. So we'd have an extra 6 months to book something for a timeframe that holidays aren't really feasible for our family. And anything I've priced is significantly more expensive so it looks like we'd lose that way too. Oh well, resigned to a "darned if we do, darned if we don't" situation What would be perfect is another Lift & Shift option.
  23. As our cruise is November and most policies are in place till Oct 31 we are agonizing over making final payment and seeing what happens, or cancelling and getting the deposit back as a Future Cruise Credit. If there was a "our vaxx policies have changed, full refund if you don't like/qualify" option we'd exercise it immediately.
  24. We're booked on RCL for November. We've got one adult mixed vaxx. One adult not yet vaxx'd. Two kids under any vaxx approved age. It's become more work than it's worth to even attempt to figure out what the rules/protocols will be. And even if we get them semi-figured out they'll change by then anyway. That final payment date looms very large for us.
  25. I believe they've set up an "every 21st of the month" update schedule. I'd be surprised to see it open in a week. Perhaps August...... Although it now seems mixed vaxx's and the non-approval of the AZ by the USA are starting to become stumbling blocks for travel - I wonder if that will translate to border openings?
