  1. Skim the board, you will quickly see a dozen similar threads about parking at the MCT. Never a problem to park there or right next door.
  2. Puffin tours that only take you to water sightings are less interesting than ones where you see them on land, because in the water you don't get to see their brightly colored feet and you just don't get as close to them as you do on land. I'd suggest Vigur island from the above list, if you can't get a tour to Latrabjarg, which we thought was by far the best place to see Puffins, having also seen them on Vigur, near Vik, and on a boat tour out of Reykjavik. Other folks swear by the East fjords or Westman Island, but we haven't been to those places in the right season
  3. Exactly. Our photo album has FAR too many pictures of me standing knee deep in Antarctic water.
  4. You might want to find a friend who has done one of these trips instead of bumping all these old threads back up to the top. Or collect your questions into a new post and put that on the board to get answers from the entire community
  5. We enjoyed our Vigur trip. Nice boat ride, good hike, a bit of learning, and yummy pastry!
  6. Pretty slim. Now, if there are other deaths on that ship between now and May, it might be worth worrying. But ONLY if there are other deaths.
  7. preseason games are always fast, but yes, regular season games should be 30 minutes or so shorter this year
  8. A number of the rental agencies have locations in downtown
  9. Claims of sights in May thru August make me scratch my head
  10. 1) If you can tell us where these locations are we who know the cities can opine as to the convenience of each 2) All depends on what you want to do and who you are (2 couples in their 20s? 50s? 80s?). Active tours (kayaking, etc), hiking, leisure activities (spas, etc). Or we can give generic advice. Suggest you do a little research before replying to see what your options are and what YOU want to do, not what WE think you should do.
  11. Saga and Troll are regularly recommended. The TripAdvisor Iceland forum has excellent advice. If you post there be more specific about what you want to see and do. As @edinburgher suggests, Isafjordur has VERY few resources as it is a small town quite apart from most of the country
  12. one other hack is Happy Hours (or as they call it in Iceland "Appy hours"), where drinks in bars/restaurants are half priced or other deals, where the prices are much more reasonable.
  13. I have read this before but I have never seen evidence of better shows because of it beyond anecdotal "one offs".
  14. Lights don't care about things like the Equinox. Easier to see at New Moon than at full, just due to the relative darkness. But the other thing doesn't mean a thing
  15. Looking for northern lights in the pitch dark on unfamiliar roads without assistance is a very difficult way to see the lights. Much as I hate tours for something like this, the drivers are all in contact with each other so if one group sees the lights, everyone sees the lights. Trying to do this alone on dark and narrow roads where you better park WAAAY off the road and not in someone's driveway to look from random spots is a good way to lose sleep and get a stiff neck. We are huge fans of self driving in Iceland. Just not for Auroras
  16. Duty Free at the airport is the best way to buy alcohol in Iceland. Locals use it as do tourists. The official shops have limited hours and selections, and high prices
  17. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_volcanoes_in_Antarctica
  18. As horseman suggests, we need LOTS more info from you to help. Budget. Dates. Who "we" are (Senior couple? Family with 4 kids? 3 Sisters?) Must Do's? In NYC? If you don't already have a list of things you want to see in NYC, get a guidebook (online is fine) and see what works for YOUR group. For me it's theater, dining, and long walks. For others it's museums, shopping, and observatories. Etc etc etc Which airport depends on price and schedule that work for you Getting to terminal depends on where you are starting from. Cab, uber, walk are all possible
  19. Bad luck with the regatta. For 2 nights, I would recommend staying downtown, in the Fanueil Hall area, or Back Bay/Copley. It is going to cost you, but you will be near the Freedom Trail with the Fanueil hall lodging, and near shopping, history, and Fenway Park in Back Bay/Copley. Staying near the cruise terminal puts you in a new and glitzy neighborhood, but not near traditional Boston attractions and not much transit connections
  20. Depends on how clear the skies are and whether the lights are "on". We've spent 5 nights in Iceland in March and 7 more in September with no luck. We had full days planned and had two great trips Some folks get many nights in a row with shows. Some get none. Lights should be considered a bonus, have plans during the day and hope you get a show at night, too.
  21. Definitely take an all day tour. Golden Circle or South Coast waterfalls are great. Walkable depends on the individual and which cruise terminal (there are 2) you are docking at. USD is no good in Iceland. Plastic is king.
  22. I agree with 1025. Shuttles are offered by cheaper hotels a good distance from the city. Taxi/Uber under a mile is going to be under $15. There are two hotels basically attached to the terminal you could easily walk from, and another half dozen (or more) within a 15 minute walk or short car ride in teh Seapot area. Then you have dozens of options in "Old" Boston, across Fort Point Channel from the Seaport District Budget might come into play for these properties.
  23. Harpoon is a 6 minute walk from the cruise terminal, per Google Maps. ICA is another 6-7 minute walk further. I don't think a cab or Uber would appreciate a drive from the terminal to the Brewery, but it is a good suggestion to visit. Nice suggestions in the North End. I worked near there 4-5 years ago. Almost never needed to use cash, so I'm not sure if things have changed since then.
  24. So . . . not a question, but more of a statement, eh?
