  1. Both are good. Read the reviews on google or at TripAdvisor to see if one "feels" better for your needs
  2. I would contact any of the tour companies to see if they can arrange a minivan shuttle for your group. You'd need two taxis, would probably run $250-$300 total that way. The Buses are fine, but for your group I bet you could do something private and direct on your schedule for the same or better price
  3. I consider booking now for this month or next month to not be 'booking in advance'. There are certainly last minute offers in that range, but most folks (or at least most folks like me) need a few months to plan a trip of this magnitude, especially the flights
  4. It was included for us a few years ago, but if your agent isn't giving you fast answers for a cruise like this it's time to find a new agent
  5. Revere and Quincy have some lodging right on the subway. It will be a "two seat ride" (or three) or you can take a cab or uber, but lower cost lodging is possible. October is always very expensive in Boston due to foliage, the Head of the Charles Regatta, and college Homecomings.
  6. I suggest you ask on the MSC board here. "hoping" smoking has been cut back could be a good way to have a disappointing trip. I'd also want to know if they have better systems in place since the Magnfic running aground around 10 years ago. IIRC (and I could be wrong) they didn't necessarily have announcements in English back then. I've never considered them (mostly for other reasons), but that would be a reason I would prefer other ships
  7. Easily? I am not aware of any Name Brands you can do that with, at least not with booking in advance.
  8. It is well reviewed on TripAdvisor, but it is close to the Hudson River, but not close to transit and city attractions. For one night before a cruise, sure, I'd stay there. For more than that? Stay near attractions and have a slightly longer journey for the one trip to the ship
  9. You can tell from size of ship, also size of the bill. Drive bys are much less pricy than ships with landings
  10. Those are both fine. Without a budget and exact dates and how many beds you need it is hard to make suggestions
  11. I've got 31 days in Iceland under my belt. Number of totally dry days is approximately 8. number of "washout" days is about the same. We slogged thru (literally) and had great times each day. There is no bad weather in Iceland. Just bad clothing for the weather
  12. Taxis are easy to find at the airport. Recent reports on TripAdvisor have been that the fare is about $125. Worth it vs. the Flybus for 3 or 4 people, not necessarily so for 1 or 2.
  13. By mid September Northern Lights are possible. But as mentioned above, no guarantees. We spent 7 nights in Iceland in 2019 September with zero sightings. Still had an amazing vacation with PACKED days. We also had 5 nights in March a few years prior with no sightings. All the tour agencies offer Lights tours. Google to find one with a schedule you like. Know in advance if you want a Big Bus or a minibus or a SuperJeep option Dog Sledding is possible in Iceland, but it's not a native activity, just a tourist thing. Not much snow in September, you will likely be on a glacier, so as much ice as snow
  14. I have no idea what the first reply means. The parking at the Terminal is VERY safe and although it seems expensive it is fairly well priced for Manhattan. And you can't beat the convenience to the ship and to getting across the river towards home after your trip
  15. This question comes up regularly on the TripAdvisor NYC forum. You can look there for existing threads or ask your question for current replies. Lots of local expertise there
  16. CB is right. Lots of websites that give you averages, ranges, and record highs and lows. Pay close attention to the rain possibilities. Except rain every day, be glad when you get none
  17. OR you can take your bags to a hotel and see if they will hold them for you for a fee
  18. THOROUGHLY DOCUMENT the condition of the car when you pick it up and when you drop it off to make sure you don't get charged for existing dings and dents that are very easy to get in Iceland. Renting at the airport is a slow process. Less onerous in cities/towns. Blue is the preferred provider on TripAdvisor. Lagoon and Lotus are also good. AVOID SIXT and SADCARS. And definitely consider the insurances. Do some research on what may already be covered and what you do and do not need. It depends somewhat on time of year and part of country you are visiting (sand and rock coverage)
  19. Both the GC and South Coast are spectacular. In 2023 you are going to have "crowds" at both, if you consider 300 or so people at the Geysir or 150 at a waterfall to be a "crowd" We've never seen a geysir anywhere other than Iceland, we've visited this one on each of our visits because it is a unique sight for us. And if you can manage to get to any of the popular sites before 9AM or after 4PM, the crowds are much smaller as Day trippers have long gone by then. Easy to do off hours touring in Iceland from May to August with VERY long days
  20. Our 4th trip to Iceland we sort of did that. My wife and a friend went to Iceland before I and her friend's husband came. It was their first trip and my wife gave her friend a 3 day "overview", then they picked us up at the airport and the other couple did a south shore tour and we went right to WestFjords. I slept much of the way after that overnight flight and missed the scenery en route, but we then spent 5 nights in that region and felt like we saw about 2/3 of the sights there (not counting Hornstrandir, which needs a couple days in itself. For a one day visit from a ship, if you can't get a tour to Dynjandi or Vigur, I'd rent a car and Do It myself. SO easy to drive in Iceland. Just take precautions when renting a car in Iceland to document the condition it is in when you pick it up and drop it off as it is easy to get a ding or dent there. Insurance is important, too, for that reason
  21. 5 hours would be a VERY fast Golden Circle tour. Basically a "yep, seen it, move on" visit.
  22. You *can* whale watch from there. We did it, it was cold and bouncy in June. I'd suggest you skip whale watching in Iceland and go to New England to do it some other time in much warmer weather. Do things in Iceland you can only do in Iceland.
  23. We used Wildwestfjords for a tour to Vigur island a few years ago on a land visit. Do not wait until you arrive to book a tour, there aren't many operators in town since anytime there isn't a ship in town there may be 300 tourists visiting at a time (based on lodging options) so no need for many options The cruiseport is right in town. It's not much of a town, other than Reykjavik there aren't any Cities in Iceland. If you can get a reservation at https://www.facebook.com/Tjoruhusid/ for lunch or dinner, DO SO, but only if you like the freshest seafood anywhere. By the way, there is the Ring Road, which is a nice 10 day tour around the island, and the Golden Circle, which is a one day tour out of Reykjavik which is good for short time visitors. There is no "Golden Ring", that phrase would just be confusing to locals or regular visitors
