  1. We don’t receive documents for the insurance. The policy explanation I think can be found on Carnival’s website. When I had to file the claim, I spoke with the Carnival PVP who booked our cruise. She led me through the steps of how to start our claim. In fact, I think Carnival reimbursed us for something right away, at the time we told her we had to cancel and then we had to file the claim to be reimbursed for the remainder. She gave me the contact telephone number, I contacted the insurance company and they took it from there. While we were very pleased to have the Vacation Protection, as it worked for our situation, we were not yet on the cruise. Medical emergencies can happen during a cruise where the Vacation Protection may not come close to covering the costs incurred say, transporting a passenger from the ship to a hospital in a foreign country when further medical treatment is necessary. If we were going on a longer cruise, out of the country we would most likely check other travel insurance policies that are more comprehensive, and provide more coverage. Enjoy your cruise!
  2. P.S. I think, but not absolutely certain, that we canceled after final payment. It might have made a difference in our refund.
  3. We always purchase the Carnival Vacation Protection. We had to use it once. When DH needed surgery, we canceled. We filed claim, provided copies of everything the insurance company needed and received a refund minus a few dollars. I don’t remember what the few dollars were. But our refund was almost the full amount of our cruise.
  4. Thanks everyone. I originally posted this on the Disabled boards. I mentioned Carnival Venezia in my topic though, and should have made the topic “Less Specific.” Because of that I guess it was moved here. Anyway, thanks again.
  5. Has anyone using a scooter, wheelchair, etc. used the new “Smart” Elevators utilized on a couple of the newer carnival ships? If so, do you think they are easier or more confusing to operate than the standard elevators or about the same? Just wondering since I’ll be using my scooter on our next cruise. Folks say if you follow the directions the “smart” elevators are great. Thanks.
  6. Wow, where in the theater was this individual smoking weed?? that no one witnessed it? Smoking isn’t allowed in the theater. I would have immediately gone to a Carnival rep in theater or directly to Guest Services. Were you able to report any of the other things you mentioned to head of security? As to being moved from one cruise to Venezia, for sure, would never have agreed to be moved from Deck 7 to Deck 2. Maybe it would have been better if you declined when they said they were moving you and maybe you could have switched to a different ship altogether. Hopefully the things you experienced will be addressed and fixed. There should be no tolerance for the behavior you describe. I’ve read other Venezia opinions, and most were good, but were based as yours was on their individual experience and we all have our own expectations. Thanks for posting.
  7. So happy we could follow along. Really enjoyed your thoughts on Carnival Venezia. October can’t come fast enough for our Venezia vacay. Thanks.
  8. Me too. On scooter, I’m never in a hurry. Don’t mind waiting, I’m on vacation. I take it nice and easy.
  9. It was me, thanks for the info. Really enjoying your review.
  10. Enjoying your review very much. We will be on Venezia in October. If you noticed, can you tell me if staff allows those with mobility scooters to drive to table in MDR. If yes, does waitstaff take scooter away or is that left to family member to move it to someplace out of the way? On a previous cruise, post Covid, understandably, waitstaff did not move scooter, but allowed another family member to move it. Thanks, enjoy the remainder of your journey.
  11. Enjoying your review very much. We’ll be on Venezia in October. We chose traditional dining for October. Do you know if the menus for the MDR will change when Venezia gets to NY? Are the menus currently designed around the places you have visited along the way? Thanks and enjoy the rest of your trip,
  12. Thanks for another nice review. Can’t wait to follow along on your next one.
  13. Thanks MizMoon. I worked with a retired Navy officer who worked as a civilian at my workplace. He would often sign his correspondence with wishes for “Fair winds and following seas.”
  14. Wow, quite a journey indeed. We will be sure to follow along. We will be on Venezia this October.
  15. On Wednesday we booked for March 2024 (RU2) Cheers to you package and got a great rate.
  16. Thanks everyone for all of your responses/opinions. For us, we’ll continue to book our cruises with Carnival, as we always have a great time. As many folks have stated they are trying to change things when there are issues as are other cruise lines, so that’s a good thing. I wish for all “Fair winds and following seas.”
  17. So sorry for your wife’s experience on your cruise last month. Hope your January cruise is enjoyable. We’ve been lucky, and for the most part our cruises have been fine, but what I will say is cruising has changed a lot over the years in many areas, it just isn’t the same as it was, so all we do is hope for the best.
  18. Geez, I need to cut and paste a little better.
  19. I just don’t get it. A little background…we have been cruising since the mid eighties and yes, we are in the “old school” category. We have cruised with Carnival, Celebrity, NCL, RCI, Cunard. Our last nine or so cruises were with Carnival, and I (on a sisters’ only cruise) just came off a competitor’s cruise in mid March, and our next is the Venezia this year. Maybe because we cruise mainly in Sept., Dec., Jan., Feb.,Mar., on 7 day and longer cruises we’ve never run into the unruly drunks, troublemakers that a few folks see on a Carnival cruise. Prior to 1990, we were pretty much exclusive to another cruise line, but a relative of DH said we just had to try Carnival. We (4 couples) gave in after they twisted our arms, and decided to try the Legend. We were skeptical too, but as it turned out, our worries about “those Carnival cruises” never happened. Not certain if we have been lucky or what, but reading about some of the lowlife, drunken, out of control individuals that some people mention when describing a Carnival cruise, we have never seen that. It’s frustrating because we’ve always had a good time on all of our cruises, including Carnival. In fact, since 1993 or so we’ve cruised exclusively with Carnival, with the exception of my cruise this past March. I get tired of reading the not so flattering reviews about Carnival. Many of the derogatory things folks mention about Carnival aren’t the cruise lines fault, it’s that some people think, especially on the shorter cruises, and their upbringing, that anything goes. Blame the guests with the inappropriate behavior. They can drink as much as they want, behave like animals, and get away with that nonsense. Yes, rules need to be enforced, and maybe it is a little ignored, but I think that most of the mainstream cruise lines have experienced the same behavior as has been mentioned about Carnival. Thanks for allowing me to vent. I understand also that everyone has there own opinions about this, but I think Carnival continues to get a bad rap.
  20. Our PVP calls back immediately, or within the hour. If she’s away, she leaves name and extension of the person covering for her. It seems she’s always available. She’s always been a delight to work with.
  21. We just came off the Anthem 3/19. I use a scooter, and had a standard balcony and I drove the scooter in and out of our cabin. I’ve used my scooter on many cruises, and I usually removed the armrests to fit easily through the doorway, but on Anthem I was able to leave armrests on. Most people who use scooters should be aware of the rules that you can’t leave your scooter outside of your cabin. It’s a safety issue. Maybe those folks who need to rent a scooter aren’t really aware of that rule. Our steward made mention of the rule to me, and I’ve had one or two stewards on other ships mention it too just in case I wasn’t aware. On our recent cruise, we didn’t see any scooters outside of our cabins, but we too have seen them before.
  22. Just off Anthem and we found MDR to be okay. All our meals were good, but I agree; sooner, rather than later specialty dining or buffet will be implemented for most cruise lines. Cruise dining has definitely changed over the years. Those days of traditional MDR early/late dining will be obsolete.
