Ajaccio, Corsica

Our ship will dock in Ajaccio, Corsica for one day. We are torn between exploring the town of Ajaccio on our own for the day, or taking a tour into the Corsican countryside. Is the countryside not to be missed? Which parts of Corsica would be most beautiful or enjoyable for the day? We will be very grateful for all advice.

Hey, can't answer the countryside question. We did a day in Corsica in July. The ship docks in the centre and it's a nice place to walk around. There isn't much other than a little market and a street of shops. I was back on the ship in an hour [emoji51] but the place was lovely.

Just a 5 minute walk from the ship is a little open air 'Noddy' road train. It's only 7 Euros for a 45 min trip around town seeing the main sites with a piped commentary. It's well worth it. When you get off it you can then have a stroll around the market.

We were there last September and had a lovely day. We did a hoho bus tour, walked the market, then returned to the ship, got our beach gear and walked back to the nearby beach. It was a great day, very low key and low cost. This was a new port for us, and it was a very pleasant surprise, we loved it.

Beach was a ten minute walk for us. It is very easy to find, and there is a sidewalk all the way. There are serveral access points along the beach, but all have relatively steep steps. The beach itself is fairly long and narrow, water was lovely in September, clear and had a long gradual entry.

Enjoy.

We have a few ways to spend a day in this port. Sometimes we use it as just a nice beach day where we can walk from the pier to the local beach and later enjoy a nice lunch at one of the nearby restaurants/cafes. But Corsica is also an interesting hilly island that offers many nice views and natural beauty. One tour (usually offered by cruises) is a long bus ride to the so-called Calanches which is simply an area of fascinating geological rock formations. But the bus ride itself is also a great way to see part of the island and landscape.

Did the beach have lounge chairs for rent?
