Breakaway Baltic May 20

Excellent cruise! Had upgraded to Haven H5 and it was fantastic - service, food, convenience, etc.

Weather was perfect, no rain the entire trip. Temps between 60-80s, mid 80s in Helsinki!

Russia immigration was smooth and quick. Much improved from past years with 10 counters open.

Ship- was very pleased with Breakaway. found much of the so called smoking nightmare to be exagerated, over stated, and false. You do NOT smell smoke in the restaurants, atrium, shops, etc. In fact, you could not even smell it on the non-smoking side of the casino when playing and this cruise had many, many smokers - never saw any outside of smoking areas, everyone very courteous about it.

Ship layout easy to navigate, and plenty of space for everyone.

Thermal suite was well worth it!!

This was second time on a Baltic itinerary and eighth NCL cruise. It is not our favorite line - prefer Celebrity, Princess, and even RCCL as a rule, but on this trip found it to be excellent.

Thank you for the short and sweet review! So glad to hear they may have already worked out the kinks going through Russian immigration. And even happier that the ship was less smokey than it had been! Can't wait for our August cruise!

Thanks for your review.

Did NCL Parties at H2O 80´s, Glow?

Do you know the name of the captain at your cruise?

Saw the video of Breakaway leaving the Warnemünde port at your cruise. Normal the ships go into the harbour an make an turnaround there. But the Breakaway leaves the port backward through the ship canal. First time a saw a cruise ship doing this in Warnemünde.

I can't remember his name now, very nice man from Sweden. There were 3 ships in port that day and we were docked the most forward. with the way the ships were postioned, I don't think there was enough room to do the usual turn around.

Captain Dan S from Sweden. Very friendly and had a great chat with him one day. He was actually covering for someone as the original captain had to leave for personal commitments. He was looking forward to going home the same time as we did

Was a great cruise. However I was with wife & 6 friends who did our own arranged tour in St Petersburg & it took us over 2 hours in line to get through immigration. 2nd day off ship was much quicker.

We did Alla Tours independently also. Took less than 10 minutes from ship to through immigration. Walked off ship at 715 and we were outside the port building by 730.

Do you happen to have a link to the video of the Breakaway leaving Warnemunde?

I was on this cruise as well. I was standing on the starboard side on the top deck during departure, and i'd love to see the view from ground.

Thank you for the review! I feel much better about our upcoming cruise in August! We also are touring with Alla Tours in St Pete and in Stockholm. Sure hope Russian Immigration is just as smooth by August ! Did you like the tour? What other tours did you do ?

Thank you!

We loved the Alla tour. I had toured SPB with Alla about 9 years ago also. She does a fantastic job!

The other ports, we did ourselves as we seldom book tours. I only added Stockholm when the port changed.

In Warnemunde, we took the train to Rostock, toured on our own and then took the boat back to Warnemunde and explored there.

Tallin- 15 min walk to Old Town and toured that on our own.

Helsinki, took tram downtown and explored on our own.

Just returned yesterday, in my view it’s a big mistake getting on at Warnemünde, the ship and staff think everything ends at Copenhagen, we had hassle returning to the ship, even given health forms to fill out, the staff just don’t realise you are still on holiday.

We had an H5 upgrade, the butler and cabin staff left at Copenhagen to go on leave, in the afternoon we had to call to get cabin serviced, they had forgotten about us. As the Haven, it’s my opinion that it’s only the standard that cruising was in 2005, shows how standards have fallen.
