A Question for Copper 10-8

Recommended Posts

Hey! I do that every time I ask!

Very important position with some of the nicest officers on the ships. There was a really short lady SO on the Rotterdam. I have forgotten her name but she was a gem, so friendly and helpful: it was a pleasure to have her on this 30 day cruise.

There are no female SOs (there are a couple of very competent female security supervisors) on HAL yet, so the lady on RTDM you describe was one of two security guards; Jennifer or Beverly

Isn't that just like me, wrong terminology. Thanks for the correction.

Anyways, such a lovely lady, we enjoyed taking to her.

Enjoy your time off!

It really doesn't ;p Take a look on the back page of the Cruise Log the HK guys (and girls now) put in your stateroom mailbox on the last evening of the cruise :D

Do you know the current status on these? Are they still on every ship except the Koningsdam?

Thanks

Roy

Hi Copper. Can you tell me who is scheduled for the Voyage of the Vikings on Aug 2 on the Rotterdam, and if there are any changes for the following Sept 9 Canada/New England? Interested in Capt, Hotel, GRM, CD, and Dining Room. Thanks in advance.

Hi Copper. Another unrelated question... has HAL gone to UHF radios fleet wide for internal operations? I used to enjoy listening to my VHF scanner while docking and departing but the last few cruises on Oosterdam they were using UHF. I recall them switching to UHF only in busy ports in South East Asia on Volendam a few years ago.

Thanks, Jim

Morning Jim; the ships got a whole bunch of new UHF hand-helds last year. They are used by the various ship depts with each now operating on their own freqs (Bridge, Security, Technical, Hotel, etc.) and an Emergency freq for drills and the "real thing". Arrivals and Departures are mostly still on VHF usually on CH 69

Thanks Copper. I'll continue to listen and watch for that all important 0-0 count on departure!

hey copper, one more question if you know, july 17 and aug 14 concierges in the Neptune Lounge? Thanks, glad you are having some time away.

Sorry shipmate; they only give me Front Office personnel; not which one of those hard workers will be assigned to the NL. That's usually an internal decision by the GRM and GRS

John, just wondering if Warren Harness will be the piano man on the Prinsendam all the way to Ft. Lauderdale. If not, who will replace him?

This may be an unsual question, but who will be the Music Director on board from August 4 until November 18?

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th, Lenda

There are two more piano dudes scheduled on PRDM besides Warren; those are Tom Wolf and Lee Strubeck.

Musical Director, the title is band leader now, will be long-time HAL employee Irving Brown, all the way till Nov

Again, thanks for the information.

The piano dudes are new to us. Looking forward to hearing them.

Really glad Irving will be the band leader. He was on last year when we were on for three months. It'll be good to see him again. Did not know they changed the title. It's hard to keep up with all the title changes.

I'll try not to contribute to thread drift on the Nieuw Amsterdam thread but will ask a question here. There's somebody I might have expected to be in that picture; my first modern HAL captain. Is Rik Krombeen still with HAL?

Also glad to see Captain Andre with a role.

Thanks

Roy

Capt. Krombeen is Director of Marine Operations in Seattle

Captain Andre van Schoonhoven is running the Filipino manning agency UnitedPhilippine Lines, Inc. in Manila, not the training center; my error. He also conducts training courses on board ships

Btw, there were lots of captains missing from that Nieuw Amsterdam christening ceremony in 2010; Frans Consen, Henk Draper, Fred Eversen, Jeroen van Donselaar, Vincent Smit, Pieter Bos, John Scott, Werner Timmers, Darrin Bowland, Albert Schoonderbeek, Simon Douwes, Arjen van der Loo, Henk Lefering, James Russell-Dunford (RIP), Tim Roberts and the aforementioned Rik Krombeen since only fifteen were required

Hello Copper10-8

Do you ever make the World Cruise? Specifically next year 1/4-4/28?

Do you know who'll be Captain, is Gene well and back to the world? Is Barbara port specialist? If not these folks do you know who?

Thanks much, Eric

Hi Airnocker/Eric, a vert cool name, btw ;)

Yes, I worked the full GWV last year, 2016

I worked the last month this year, from Piraeus

Next year, I'm scheduled to join in Singapore and I'm really looking forward to seeing the Seychelles, Madagascar, Mozambique, especially South Africa and the double overnight in Capetown, Namibia, Angola, Gambia and Senegal before making the westbound cross to Puerto Rico

Captain for the Grand World Voyage will always be Jonathan Mercer (2019 will be his last before retiring). Barbara, the "pirate mum" ;) will also be back. I'm not sure who the CD will be as I'm not sure what Gene's current status is.

So, you won't be on board for the New Zealand ports of call?

We had hoped to see you in Dunedin.
