I was originally opposed to the medallion, not because I'm a techno-phobe, but because I thought it would result in a lot of spam advertising, with the marketing people targeting where the passengers were spending their time. Now, before anyone says, "But what about Facebook? There's no privacy at all there", I agree with you ! That's why I don't have a Facebook account.
However, once I boarded the ship last week, I realized that advertising was everywhere, and there's no way to avoid it. I turned on the tv, hoping to find a travel video about Ketchikan, but instead I found the channel with Todd from Texas.
Anyone here know Todd??
He's the fast-talking Shopping Mgr. on the Emerald, and boy oh boy, does he ever want to sell you an expensive wristwatch or diamond jewelry from the EFFY store ! LOL.
There's no getting away from Todd. Every night, in our little plexiglass mailbox, we received a lot of advertising flyers, inviting us to the art auction, to a free presentation on all sorts of things, on invitations to visit the Lotus Spa, the CrabShack, the Future Cruise office, and of course, Todd's seminar on buying wristwatches. Tons of paper advertising. So, the advertising is already all over the place.
Then, one day after we returned home, I received a phone call from a Princess marketing agent. This is what she told me, "We saw that through your e-mail address, you were visiting our cruise page and were looking at future cruises." ( Wow. Princess marketing must have software "cookies" that provide a list of who is looking at their site, then they capture the e-mail address, which provides them with the passengers' phone number).
There's no place to hide, even when I wear my baseball cap with the tinfoil in it ! Princess can still find me and sell me another cruise, 36 hours after I disembarked ! LOL
Therefore, it just doesn't matter anymore about the medallion. Nothing to worry about.
And, if anyone doesn't want to be disturbed in his/her cabin, just take the little blue plastic card ( very low tech, I must say
) stored on the back of the door, and insert it into the slot on the front ot the door. MIssion accomplished !
