AF-1 Posted September 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2018 Hello all I just logged into my personalizer for next Feb on Caribbean Princess. Princess is offering a pre-cruise price of $59.99 for unlimited internet for the 7 day cruise. This looks like a great deal; what do you all think? SimonaD Posted September 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2018 I’d say it’s good. It’s generally $9.99 (or .95) a day onboard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
weedpindle Posted September 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2018 It is a good deal only if you think it is, just like so many life choices you make every day.
Thrak Posted September 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2018 Not a deal to me at all. I would just stick with my free minutes. If it sounds like a good deal for you then go for it. :D

There is a distinction to check out before you judge... "Unlimited internet" often only means "unlimited minutes" and unlimited-minutes internet generally comes in three "tiers": • Social media sites only. Maybe GMail, etc, but not your ISP's email server. • Everything¹ except streaming • Everything¹ including streaming (Skype, YouTube, Netflix) ¹ I think they block hacker sites, porn, and risks to the ship. Never tested such.

Thanks. :) We don't have any free minutes, so for our upcoming cruise on the Regal, we signed up for unlimited internet for $59.95. That was the only option offered to us. -- EBC

Most definitely I am referring to the free minutes one gets as Platinum (Elite get the same so it's not an advantage in this instance to be Elite). I fully understand that many don't get this perk but I was simply answering the original question as to whether or not I felt the offer was of value. To me, the answer is a resounding, "No". However, even before we had the "free" minutes for being Platinum my answer would have still been the same. I spend a fair amount of time online at home (as you can likely tell by my blathering here on CC) but, when cruising, I really don't give a darn about being online. When Internet minutes cost me money I bought exactly zero minutes. I have never paid Princess a single cent for Internet access. I truly do sympathize with those folks who have to be online for work purposes but I simply never felt the need to pay for Internet access when cruising. Heck, before we were Platinum and before there was Princess@Sea the first thing we did upon boarding was to turn the phones off and stick them in the safe. I still mainly keep the phone "alive" in order to access Princess@Sea. I check my folio and "bookmark" the things in the Patter I want to remember. I also message my wife (and she messages me) but we fully understand that its a bit hit-or-miss as there is no push notification. We are on a cruise. To heck with the rest of the world! If my house burns down I can't do anything about it and would rather enjoy my cruise and find out afterward. ;p

Princess is offering a pre-cruise price of $59.99 for unlimited internet for the 7 day cruise. This looks like a great deal; what do you all think? We are booked on a 10 day 2019 Caribbean Princess cruise. We have the same Medallion Net Voyage offer, slightly higher cost for 10 days. There is only one level of service offered which includes e-mail, streaming, premium unlimited access. Your price, $59.99 or $8.57/day seems very reasonable. It will almost certainly be more costly once on board.
AF-1 Posted September 23, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted September 23, 2018 No one can answer this question. Are you going to be staring at a computer screen for hours while on a cruise???? I will be doing a daily blog for my family. This is a rock and roll oldies cruise so my family wants pictures from all the artists; so unlimited is looking pretty good
AF-1 Posted September 23, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted September 23, 2018 I normally have no free minutes. I have no status with any cruiseline; so I buy minutes and do a family blog. I normally wake up early and sit on balcony or up in buffet area when no one is up. I download the pics from previous day and send out my blog. Thanks everyone and have a great day

What I am going to do is shift my smartphone to "WiFi calling" and have 24/7 phone and text without paying CellularAtSea's piratical rates. The internet speeds were awesome on this ship last month. I also purchased the unlimited as I like to stay connected. Streaming was good and also WiFi calling was good all over the ship. I find it is essential to have Internet access while on a cruise. Does not have to be unlimited, but costs being equal, unlimited is better than a limited number of minutes. Why do I find it essential? a) Communication with vendors for private shore excursions. b) Paying various household and credit card bills that show up during a cruise and require payment before the vacation ends. c) Emergency notification from credit card issuer when they suspect fraud when using the card overseas. (And, yes, I had notified them about using the card overseas before starting the cruise.)

BigGuy25 Posted September 24, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 24, 2018 We had the unlimited internet on our just concluded Regal transatlantic. Speeds were awesome ... even during our five days at sea. Loved using FaceTime video and audio to communicate with shoreside family and friends. Elitein85days Posted September 24, 2018 #20 Share Posted September 24, 2018 On our last Caribbean Princess cruise platinum and elite members got the high speed unlimited internet for free. It works just like your Wi-Fi at home. Always on, always connected and fast enough to stream video and make Wi-Fi calls.
