AllureOfVacation Posted January 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2018 We are not familiar with school off times in the US, but we are currently planning a vacation which might include a cruise to the Caribbean, starting from Florida on November 18th 2018. Will this be a cruise with Thanksgiving vacationers? I have nothing against children, I was a sometimes too lively and loud children by myself. Families deserve vacation, too, but we prefer rather calm and relaxed cruises. So would it be better to choose another date or is starting on 11/18 "safe" because school is not out yet? Rare mom says Posted January 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Since thanksgiving is on the 22nd this year, it's a safe bet that there will be families taking a few extra days off and going on a cruise. How many will be sailing on your ship may depend on the cruiseline you select. Some attract more families than others.
Grandma Dazzles Posted January 14, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Difficult to answer without knowing which cruiseline you are considering. Most mainstream cruiselines cater to families. Thanksgiving is November 22, so some schools may have an extra day or two off school. Some parents may choose to vacation then. A lot of people also consider Thanksgiving more of a family holiday, like Christmas, and visit their family; perhaps alternating Thanksgiving/Christmas. Most cruises have a significant number of kids, unless you pick a cruise over 7 days or a more upscale line.
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 14, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2018 On many cruise lines sailing the itinerary you mentioned you will see many families. Keith
zqvol Posted January 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Very easy answer for the OP - That is Thanksgiving week in the US, you can expect prices to be higher and all mass market lines sailing out of Florida to be full with a lot of passengers under the age of 18. If you are wise you will either go the week before or a couple of weeks later. The ship will have a dramatically different passenger makeup and a better fare. ATC cruiser Posted January 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2018 I’ve taken cruises thanksgiving week with my children before. While there are more kids that week, it is not nearly as bad as it would be over Christmas or spring break. Sent from my iPad using Forums

AllureOfVacation Posted January 16, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Thank you for all your answers! It seems that we might give it a try and book it. There are worse things then being on a crowded ship :D
