happytravelleruk Posted September 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2018 How's this for timing? Yesterday we booked a cruise to Iceland. Today they reckon a volcano is about to erupt.:( Insurance could be tricky! If P and O cancelled the cruise before full payment, would we get our deposit back from them? manonabike Posted September 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2018 Yes, you'd get either option to transfer to another cruise or money back if they cancel. Could give you great photos and at least you're not flying. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
happytravelleruk Posted September 24, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted September 24, 2018 Indeed but apparently we would all choke to death within 15 mins.
yorkshirephil Posted September 24, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2018 Indeed but apparently we would all choke to death within 15 mins. And you may be the lucky ones, it is likely Katla, which is overdue an eruption, if this one goes it could be bad, we had a glacier walk on the one that erupted in 2011ish and the guide explained about Katla and how Icelanders were very wary about it. Thejuggler Posted September 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2018 Amazing how quickly fake news spreads. The Icelandic authors of a report where this made up' story' has come from have called those publishing stories liars.
manonabike Posted September 24, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2018 But it was in the Daily Mail, how can you doubt such a reputable source?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare Presto2 Posted September 24, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2018 When the last volcano went up we cancelled a fly / stay resort holiday and saw a cruise advertised from Southampton on Oceana. We cancelled the land holiday (lost the deposit) but still had a cheaper holiday on one beautiful ship. Haven't looked back since ! ;)
jeanlyon Posted September 24, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2018 Nobody knows when a volcano will erupt. Or an earthquake for that matter. If you couldn't get travel insurance the cruise wouldn't go!!
happytravelleruk Posted September 24, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted September 24, 2018 But it was in the Daily Mail, how can you doubt such a reputable source?? Apparently this originated in the Sunday Times and was picked up by papers all round the world. (The Mail is not guilty in this case!). Scientists say their report was misinterpreted thank goodness. ;)
jocap Posted September 24, 2018 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2018 I first heard the warning about Katla immediately after the last eruption happened with Eyjafjallajokull- how everyone was waiting because it was overdue.. well, that's a few years back now. Nobody knows. I think the 15 mins warning is for people hiking on the volcano.
