Rare jimbo5544 Posted December 5, 2009 #53 Share Posted December 5, 2009 John's response about the Platinum laundry question: 5. The subject of Platinum laundry benefits came up as well. This is because this voyage we have 600 Platinum cruisers and as you know they get free laundry service. Now usually we have 50 0r so Platinum guests so free laundry is never a problem. However 600 bags or if they do 2 bags……..1200 bags is a huge task to get back the same day or even the next day. And so we asked guests this voyage to see if they can manage with one bag per cabin and everyone has been most understanding. Obviously, if someone has more than one bag we will not say no. Yet the question was that apparently someone on Cruise Critic had posted that this was a fleetwide policy for each and every cruise and indeed Host Mach from Cruise Critic wrote to me saying that was a posting stating this. Nope………………yet again……………….total bollocks……………it is this ship and this cruise only and if anyone asks for an extra bag we will honour that request. It just means that my underwear won’t get washed which is no big deal………………………………………….. as Heidi can do them in 8 days time. http://johnhealdsblog.com/2009/12/04/pa-007-vs-the-royal-champions-at-cinemas-this-christmas/#comment-68290 Thanks Mach
ronrythm Posted December 5, 2009 #54 Share Posted December 5, 2009 Please, don't ask the questions here... email me. My address is near the top of my signature... I'll add the questions and answers here. :) Mach Since I gave up on having signatures turned on a long time ago, due to all the people who put their life story in it including photos, I can't e-mail you, so I'll just keep bugging John. It gives him more time to sit in his cabin in his underwear.Enjoy Ron

tgmcc Posted December 8, 2009 #58 Share Posted December 8, 2009 Mach, A few months ago I e-mailed you a question about keeping in contact with home since my son would be on the Homecoming court while we were gone. I want to tell you that I appreciated your help, and thank you for being so giving with your time. It is good for all of us to have someone who may have the answer or is willing to go get it, if possible. Anyway, this is a belated thanks! Nunu Posted December 9, 2009 #60 Share Posted December 9, 2009 Mach, dirty room service dishes. Hallway or cabin: What say Carnival?
sallyb Posted December 9, 2009 #61 Share Posted December 9, 2009 Good question, Nunu. I always used to leave them in the cabin, but noticed last few cruises that lots of people put them out. Maybe Carnival could post something in the Capers about what should be done.
Chacooe Posted December 9, 2009 #62 Share Posted December 9, 2009 Hi Host Mach, This question really does not have to do with Carnival, but I don't know where else to ask it, so here goes. I know that we are not allowed to mention Travel agencies or TA's by name, but what about Travel Insurance companies. Can we ask questions about which ones people like the best. I want to take out travel insurance for my cruise in January, but I would like some input about the different companies, which ones treated the customers well and which ones take their time processing claims. I did not want to post a thread without first finding out if we could do it or not. Thank you for this thread, it sure makes it easier to clear things up quickly. BTW on John's blog today, someone asked about the Ship on a Stick and once again he said that they were not stopping those.

There are dozens of companies that provide vacation insurance and most are quite similar. The big question is more what you need than who provides it. Trip cancellation is available readily, if that's your concern. Some companies provide 'Cancel for any reason' insurance. It's pretty pricey but might be worth it to some folks. I've used AIG Travel Guard in the past (I know... I know...) and I was very pleased with the price and the policy. You might want to try this site to compare companies and policies. http://www.squaremouth.com/ :)
MrPete Posted December 9, 2009 #64 Share Posted December 9, 2009 So, why can't the Dream dock properly in New York and San Juan?
shipty2 Posted December 9, 2009 #65 Share Posted December 9, 2009 I also wan to know what to do with the room service dishes. I always keep them on the desk as I do not like the look of old bacon lining the hallways. Which is the proper location?
ducksoupforme Posted December 9, 2009 #66 Share Posted December 9, 2009 So, why can't the Dream dock properly in New York and San Juan? No doubt it is somehow the fault of New York and San Juan.
*Mach* Posted December 9, 2009 Author #67 Share Posted December 9, 2009 So, why can't the Dream dock properly in New York and San Juan? I don't have a clue about San Juan but I've already asked. Regarding New York, the passenger gangway at the terminal is located forward and the length of the ship prevents it from mating with the deck 3 entrance to the Lobby Deck... The Dream was positioned as far forward as possible. In other ports where a ship and be positioned more forward or aft, as necessary, it won't be a problem... In this image you can see where the Dream was docked... right where my little hand shaped cursor is and directly across from the Intrepid Museum. It's very much a 'slip' arrangement familiar to small boat owners and significantly restricts the position of the ship relative to the pier. Was it Carnival's fault or the Port Authority of NY? I don't have a clue but it did delay boarding as the number of elevators available from Deck 0 is quite limited... :)

MrPete Posted December 10, 2009 #75 Share Posted December 10, 2009 NP dude, thanks. There seems to be two schools of thought to this. I think it's DISGUSTING to walk past trays of food in the hall. Reminds me of Zydecocruisers half eated food pictures. Yet, the one time I used room service in a hotel, I was TOLD to put it out in the hall when I was done. I did not.
