Latteluver Posted June 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2010 Hi, a rather trivial question for all you cruising experts out there! Are there traditional board games available for use on the Grand Princess? My kids love 'Monopoly', 'Ludo' etc and we will bring our own if there are not any onboard. Many thanks:p
DrivesLikeMario Posted June 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2010 I've seen & used: Connect Four Taboo Scrabble Pictionary Trivial Pursuit Life Checkers Backgammon Chess Uno Sorry They usually don't have Monopoly, but if you're lucky enough to find it, many of the cards, pieces and money are missing. We're really "into" playing board games as a family, so we invested in the nice zippered travel games found here: http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-40387-Scrabble-Game-Folio/dp/B000063KCJ These are really convenient to have in your cabin or on the plane. There are a variety of games that come in these neat zippered pouches. This is also another resource for travel games: http://www.educationallearninggames.com/travel-games.asp
paul929207 Posted June 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2010 On the Ocean Princess there were a bunch of board games in the library. Sorry I don't remember which ones
Rare geoherb Posted June 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 10, 2010 Our favorite game is Scrabble. I bought a travel set after our Sun Princess cruise. On that ship, apparently a lot of passengers were not taught how to share. They borrowed the games from the library and kept them in their cabins. So if you have a favorite game, bring it along. Don't count on it being available when you want to play it.
DrivesLikeMario Posted June 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2010 I've seen people do that too, Herb. They've kept a game in their cabin the whole week. This is precisely why we bought our own travel Scrabble. When we have found the games available, some of the letters were missing and I don't enjoy doing letter inventory before playing.
Keryel Posted June 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 10, 2010 How about a deck of playing cards? I know it's only a small thing to pack, but it is ONE more thing.
DrivesLikeMario Posted June 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 10, 2010 They used to be free, but I recently heard that they are now charging $1 per pack. Of course, they always have them to buy in the gift shop. Some of my favorite cards have cruise ships on them! ;)
Latteluver Posted June 12, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted June 12, 2010 Thanks for the information. I think we will be bringing our own games to be on the safe side!

timem Posted June 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2010 No cribbage board we always bring our own. Cribbage defineatly an "at sea" game.
Feebarn Posted June 19, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 19, 2010 There was definetly Monopoly on the Diamond last week, also not mentioned there was Balderdash, Jenga and Yahtzee. I believe there were several Mahjong sets too. I tried to talk my husband into borrowing one, but he was having none of it!

sassyredhat Posted June 19, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 19, 2010 Not sure how complete the sets will be. We always bring our own Rummicube, but we take it out of the box. We put the pieces in ziplock bags. Takes up less space and weight. Pat
Rare TracieABD Posted June 19, 2010 #14 Share Posted June 19, 2010 Lots of games in the libraries of the Crown and Golden. The boxes looked pretty new and not too tattered. I am not sure about the contents.:)
wizard-of-roz Posted June 19, 2010 #15 Share Posted June 19, 2010 Crown Royal [whiskey ]"bag" is the best for keeping our "Tridominoes" in. We keep in in our carryon and have played the game on airplanes/trains/ships/restaurants and hotel lobbies. So much fun, especially when you play for something! ;):p
