Radio....glad you're enjoying the Tim Hortons! As Canadians, this is one thing we really miss when we cruise Bermuda, the Bahamas, or the Caribbean. When DH and I do a Canada/New England itinerary we always make sure to hit the Tim's for our coffee on the Halifax and Saint John days:)

Hi cruisepup: couldn't you just have kept your tradiional dining and just went to the dining room Tony Awards night and asked if a table were available could you be seated there for just one night? there are always seats available in the dining room...sometimes even whole tables...just wondering

It looks like you're asking why I didn't show up for early seating at traditional dining that evening. That would have been too early. I wanted to have dinner around 7:30 pm. That would have given me 1 1/2 hours for dinner which is more than enough time. After a 20 minute wait I was seated around 7:50 pm and got out just in time. But these 20 minute or more waits was ridiculous, especially when followed by extremely slow service.

Yep, I think that qualifies as addicted. "Hi, I'm Ken and I'm a Cruise Addict!"

Hello everyone. . .

My connection has limited my ability to post earlier when I tried. . .It seems to be working well now !

We left Halifax, and our next stop will be New York City.

I was able to see a few things today, despite the rain. . .

We first made a walk up to the Waterfront, and we were able to see the harbor tour boats, many vendors, Theodore Too, and several yachts, and passenger boats on our way to Murphy’s Cable Wharf. We were trying to see if the Whale watching tour was able to book. Sorry. . .no whale watching today.

We did, however make it up to the Citadel. The Halifax Citadel is a National Historic Site of Canada. It was the principal British Naval Station in North America, when it was built.

It is now a Historic Monument, that is staffed by College Students, who are employed to re-enact the way the enlisted solders operated in the 1800’s. The rain kept them from performing all of the events, but it was an instructional tour.

We walked down to the Nova Scotia Casino, which was very big with a lot of tables and slots. The payout for me was not so big. Oh well, you can’t win them all ! After having lunch, we walked back to the Pier 21 Area, when we heard the Maasdam sounding her horns, and saw a lot of passengers running to the ship. . .I hope they made it.

I stopped into the Westin, and VIA rail station for a few minutes to get a few photos, and then walked back to Pier 21. On the way I saw that several store were offering free Wi-Fi. . . (I should have used one of those services. . .Ooops)

We made it back to the ship with time to spare, and Carnival Glory left promptly at 6PM. I feel like I walked 10 miles today. . . I may hit the bed early tonight.

This city is a lot like Saint John, in that I would really like to stay hear for a few days to see everything this beautiful city has to offer. The locals are very friendly, and it seems that you could walk forever and always feel safe. I am sure I may find myself back to Halifax very soon. . .

Thanks for all of the nice comments, and thanks for tuning in. . .

They are military uniforms. A better question might be, why are bell boys dressed like soldiers :D

I should have said traditional military uniforms. Just in keeping with the historical nature of the fort.

I've never seen a bell boy wearing formal Scottish attire.

Pee-ah is referring to this photo:

They look like the uniforms in the old "Call for Phillip Morris" ads.

Here's another photo I found of the cadets in the same uniform:

Apparently you haven't been to the Harbourfront Marriott here in Halifax, they may not be formal but I have seen some in kilts.

How's the food, Radio? There's a lobster night?

The food has been very good. Lobster was served on Elegant Night (first sea day).

I also liked the Fish and the pasta. We have had very good service in the Dining Room, and the menu choices have always be very tasty. I had lunch several days in the Red Sail (Lido), and most have been good, but there have been a few items that didn't fit with me :o (so I just got something different)

Radio

:rolleyes::rolleyes:
