Does anybody know which side of the ship will be best for sight seeing? Have been trying to figure out which way the cruise will go around the islands. Will we be cruising past the volcano at night?

 

For both our 2003 sailing (Honolulu to Vancouver) and 2006 sailing (Honolulu to Ensenada) the captain made sure to do a night sail past the volcano and turned the ship around so Starboard, Aft and Port sides could all see it.

I'm confused. I was under the impression that Carnival ships were not cruising past the lava flow, they will be sailing the back side of the Big Island. Is this incorrect?

Have no idea how they are sailing, but just wanted to make sure we could see it if they sailed past the lava flow. It is hard to figure out how they are going to sail by the graphics that I have seen. At this point, doubt if anybody knows for sure what they are going to do! But, who cares, we are sailing to Hawaii!!

All I know is we did in 2003 and 2006 .............. you didn't get REALLY close but close enough to get the idea from the large red glow heading down to the ocean. Guess we will find our won't we ....... anyone check with someone who did the Spring sailings this year or the Fall sailings last year?

Just received an email from Johna that the 8B cabins are selling fast. For those who asked for pricing, she does not have any cabins left at the rate shown in my email. There are still 8B cabins that can be booked at the reduced deposit, but the rate is now higher and this is only while supplies last.

If you are thinking about booking one of these guaranteed 8B balcony cabins, you probably should not wait too long to get in on the reduced deposit. Other categories are still available, though.

I placed a courtesy hold a stateroom that I really wanted with Johan yesterday.

By the time I confirmed today the price has gone up $60 for the 8B .......

Paid full deposit for a single to get my cabin! :D :D

l I changed to another cruise line for this cruise because the route Carnival Spirit is taking goes around the back side of Big Island and we wouldn't see the lava flow. It has to do with Carnival calling on Kahuli, Maui instead of Lahaina after they leave Hilo, it is the shortest route. I know there is never a guarantee you will sail past the lava flow, we missed it last time as the flow had stopped. I also found cheaper prices on the other line, so it wasn't just because of the lava flow experience that we changed.
