I gave it deep thought..going to keep 2 cruises I had planned and wait a year or 2 after you for cruise Hawaii..can't get that much time and money so soon after planned travels that are killer rates..and on the books. They are broadening horizons travels which are good for me...although it is never a wrong time for Hawaii!!

Bon Voyage..tell us all about it..and I am sneaking peeks for those Hawaiiian words...Aloha!!! Sarah sjn911

Thanks Sandy..and blessings to new MT friend Molly.

I keep coming back to this cruise. Hawaii is on my bucket list....I just have to wrap my brain around 15 days and the cost. First thought is that it is costly..but then, you have to figure it is the length of TWO cruises and cost per day. Also, when I have checked airfare to Hawaii in the past, it was about $800 each.

Sighh, I'll keep waiting for pricing.........All those sea days could get me in a heap of trouble in the casino though

I'm a little late to the dance, but for those of you with kids under high school age (which is difficult to slip out of), that consider taking them out for 2 weeks too long, here's our take:

We did a 2 week (almost identical itinerary to this) in 2002, when our D was in jr. high. She (and we) had to sign a "contract" agreeing to do all the work (provided to us), as well as a couple of extra assignments (think research) that were geared towards ship information and the islands we visited.

D spent a bit more than an hour a day (concentrated), doing her assignments, sometimes with me or H being "teacher" sometimes with a grandparent. Honestly, her work was amazing during that time. Her writing more creative, and her "extra" work was very thoughtful. She toured with a whole different set of eyes.

The conversations I had with her teachers before we left were very positive that this was a great learning experience, as well as a bonding time with family (we had 4 generations).

Fast forward to 2008, D was a sophomore in college, and was granted permission from her professors to complete her finals on a ship (it was a special occasion). Again, she toiled a couple of hours a day for the first 3 days (this time without parental nudging :D), landed in a port and e-mailed them off.

Travel is a wonderful experience, and there will be a TON of at-sea time to work on school assignments.

If your kid is a good to great student, I recommend it. If they struggle, well then, maybe not.

I like your outlook on this.....I know there have been MANY discussions on these boards over the years about taking them out and not taking them out. Summer cruising is just not going to happen for us because of our line of work. I have taken them out for the last 2 years in Nov., with school work in hand and it hasn't been an issue at all. They've went right back to school and continued to do well - exceedingly well. We actually live next door to one teacher and 2 teachers live behind us and their karate teacher teaches high school. Even before we took them out the first time (I've read on here from teachers themselves they didn't like it when parents took kids out of school), I talked to the teachers we knew and asked them their opinions. They were all for it and said it really isn't that big of a deal as long as the child isn't struggling academically.

I fast forward and when this cruise hits, they will be 10 and almost 12, so....unless their grades start to suffer for whatever reason, I almost see no reason why not - still so undecided! I guess we have a few days - a week or so to decide!!!

Is this the first trip to Hawaii for Carnival?

Sandy, if we book this through the cc group and the price goes down, will they honor the lower price up until final payment?

Generally, if the price drops, it is very difficult to get a reduction for groups. Usually the price for groups is low to begin with.

I don't see the prices on this cruise dropping much because it looks to be a pretty popular itinerary. On my B2B group cruise, the second week's itinerary changed to the new Aruba one and the price went sky high. Those people who booked with our group got to take advantage of the really low group rate. The price for both cruises now is well below even the Early Saver Rate.

I should mention that you can book the Early Saver through this group, which would entitle you to price reductions, you just wouldn't get the amenities being offered.

This is the first round trip to Hawaii. The Spirit does one way cruises when she repositions to/from Seattle for the Alaska season each year. The cruises are 12 days and go from Ensenada to Honolulu (5 sea day and 7 days around Hawaii), then Honolulu to Vancouver (7 days around Hawaii and 5 sea days). Then does the reverse in September.

OMG! I just noticed (how could I have missed it??) that the title of this thread is "MoaLa Malihinis" and not "MoaNa Malihinis". I can't believe I typed it incorrectly. :o I was so sure I proofread it  I think I'll have to see if one of the Hosts can change it. It's going to drive me crazy now.
