bad service in Commodore Club

I am really surprised. The Commodore Club usually has Cunard's top waiters. They are known for their excellent service. It must have been someone new--who probably won't be there very long!

We saw the same waiter serving in the Chart room a few nights later and he still looked a miserable so and so.!!

On the QV as well? I made the mistake of sitting down in a section of Comm Club on QM2 and was told bruskly that it was closed and reserved for another group. There weren't any signs or anything but, whatever. I know FoD goes there but I think they meet over by the piano on port. Whereas I was starboard and up by the windows. Even so I don't think they kick anybody out.

Earlier I got a drink at the bar but the service could be described as lethargic if I was to be charitable. Now if the service had been offered at the bar with the gusto of my ejection from the elite section and vice versa I may someday go back.

Grannyred wouldn't have brought this up if she hadn't been upset and it's a shame to see some posters minimzing her concern with the 'I would have never left a drink behind' comments.

Thanks for that Ryancoke. I must add that I was more embarrassed than upset at the time. As for some comments I think it best to ignore them:rolleyes:

It can be upsetting and, including the previous post, even if you are sat in a reserved area there are ways of doing things that appear to be sadly lacking in these cases.

I think some of the comments have largely been because it is such a bizarre case - I've certainly never heard of anything like it, particularly the 'members' bit - maybe he'd just been fired from White's and was having flashbacks :D

It's rather drastic to swear off ever going back to the Commodore Club just because of one waiter's bad service.

Once was enough. We had a much better time in the Golden Lion.

The waiters were fantastic and it was always service with a smile.

Yes. The Golden Lion and Chart Room too. Lots of nice places. The view from CC is quite nice though. Maybe I'll just go read a book there sometime. But I'll ask first like in that Fawlty Towers episode when he turfed the family out in favor of Lord Melbury (was that the name? Not the guy in the tragic golf ball accident) and they found another place: 'So it's alright if I sit there then is it?etc etc...' I'll have to watch it again so I get it right. Wouldn't want to embarass anyone.;)

I remember reading recently that someone in the grills was complaining that they were not 'escorted to their table'. I couldn't stop laughing at this, oh what a dilemma?

I remember thinking that when we dined in britannia restaurant how wonderful the staff were, even upon walking in the entrance they new what table I was on and when my friend walked in they spoke to him and addressed him by his surname (he had never spoken to the staff before) told him where his table was. How was that for service! fantastic. Considering that many people dine in the restaurant. Maybe peoples perceptions are different, but I think they do a damn fine job considering all the people they come across on a day to day basis. :)

Ryancoke, Please don't mention Fawlty Towers! (I did, but I think I got away with it!):D BTW, did you notice that John Cleese was a guest recently on a trans-atlantic crossing? Darn sorry I missed that! I imagined him as maître d’ in Brittania dinning room for one night. :D:D:D

I believe Friends of Bill W meetings are usually held in the Boardroom on Deck 9 (not the Commodore Club as previously mentioned) because those meetings are most often held in an alcohol-free area.

Actually I've seen Bill W. & FOD hosted in either place. The last few years you're right about Bill W. being in the boardroom. I actually preferred the Boardroom, as there's a bit more privacy, without passengers walking in & joining in(not knowing what the meetings were about).

Well, now that you mention about asking first, that it exactly what we did. When we entered the room a the lady that works there ( I think she was the main person) was standing just inside the bar, so I asked if it would be ok to have a drink and she said "certainly, go and find yourself a nice seat " .

Thats when we got the waiter from Faulty Towers:)

Apologies if it seemed as though I was 'mimizing her concern' but I told the truth - my husband would have insisted we stay to drink the drink ;)

I would have been upset too- not angry as Grannyred said but upset. I hate confrontation but I do think it best to deal with a problem with a quiet, polite word at the time, if possible.

The one and only time we have felt the need to complain was with regard to a growing incident in Britannia regarding our vegetarian table companions who received particularly poor service over a few days. Eventually the Maitre D' was called when the food was inedible and we were asked for our views on the service, even though we are not vegetarian.

As a result, we all received a gift of chocolate strawberries in our rooms and we were invited to a wonderful vegetarian banquet.

We once had the general alarm go off on the Qm2 half way through a Transatlantic Crossing and i still kept hold of my pint of Bass:D

I think i was also on this Crossing  . It was July 2006 and we were in the Cinema watching a Harrison Ford Film. :p

I heard a line on TV last night that I liked. A lady was getting really poor service and she looked at the waiter and quietly said, "Excuse me, am I offending you in some way"? That should at least get a proper resonse of some sort. :)

Wish I had thought of that line.:)

Its only later when it hits you that you think of comments like that.

We still had a wonderful cruise and it wont put me off cruising with Cunard in the future. :)

:) I had to laugh, words spoken quietly arnt always good, the waiter may have said quietly, "yes you are "and who would ever know:).

I am pleased it has not put you off though, it is very, very rare for this to happen and who knows he may have been deeply upset by something we dont know about and reacted badly

Ha Ha , He could well have said that judging by the the look on his face.

I know this incident was more than likely a one off, and your quite right that we will never know how he was feeling that particular day. I was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time:) or the right place at the wrong time !!

On the QM2 in April the portside section of the C.Club was roped off for 'World Cruise Guests' and coffee and buns laid out. This happened each day I was up there before and just after lunch. There was a guy, a crew member sitting there with a clip board at the ready. I never saw anyone take advantage of this largesse. I didn't think much of it just presumed it was a perk for those long distance pax Not sure if this has any bearing on the 'Members Only' comment. There were plenty of seats available in the rest of the space,

When poor service is received has anyone ever had success bringing it to attention of management? If so what is your technique? I haven't had much luck with that so I just tend not to go back for a while and then to see if the person is still there.

My wife had me phone one place and speak to the manager because in her words 'he'll want to know so he can make it right'. Naive child. So I phoned this, um, fine fellow and was explaining when he interrupted to announce 'all my parts counter staff are fully trained and don't make mistakes'. For once I had a response instead of thinking of one sometime later like the next day. I inquired as to how many worked at that counter to which he replied five. I politely congradulated him because 'out of 6 billion people in the world I've only ever heard of five that don't make mistakes and you must be so proud to have recruited them all'. OOH that felt so good. I tried not to sound sarcastic but I need lessons in that regard. I'm afraid the tone of the discussion deteriorated somewhat after that. Satisfaction was not obtained. I beleive their company slogan is 'we're not happy 'til you're not happy.' (Apparently they stole that motto from Air Canada.)

I would have taken the drink with me over to Hemispheres or maybe the Winter Garden.... something on the same deck, because for some reason carrying a drink onto an elevator feels a bit unseemly.

I know what you mean. I can't recall ever carrying a drink into an elevator. But I havebeen carried into several elevators because of drink!

:D
