Star Princess Drydock Details

I know it is still 10 months away but is it time to start thinking about the Star Princess Drydock details. The Grand is going into drydock in about three weeks and the details are well know. The next major drydock will be for the Star. She did not have all the planned upgrades completed during her last drydock in 2008 that subsequently made to the Golden and the Caribbean such as moving the Casino to the Promenade Deck and a new Crown Grill on the Fiesta Deck. Will the Star look more like the Grand or the Golden and the CB after her drydock? Will Skywalkers remain? Does anyone know?

The Star will look like the Golden. So far only the Grand is having Skywalkers removed.

It has been posted elsewhere that Skywalkers would remain on the Golden, Star and CB and I assume that will be the case. I was more interested in the change to be made on Promenade and Fiesta Decks and possible Plaza Deck. Vines and IC have already been installed on the Star on Plaza Deck. Will the area be modified to install an Alfredo's Pizzeria as on the Grand? Will the Casino remain on Fiesta Deck and be reduced in size to allow installation of Window Suites like the Grand? Will the Crown Grill and Leaves Tea Library be constructed on Promenade Deck? Or will some or all of these modifications be only on the Grand. That was really my question.

Skywalkers remains. The Crown Grill will move to the Fiesta Deck, the Casino to the Promenade. Window Suites on the Fiesta. So far no on Alfredo's & Leaves.

So your information indicates that the originally intended 2008 modifications will be completed in the upcoming drydock and that the Grand will be a "One Off" ship. Thanks.

As of now best info is what I posted. Star should be in dry dock November 14 thru December 8. Maybe more info will be released during the summer.

After reading a recent horror story of a well needed rennovation of a princess ship's staterooms prior to dry dock, I'm now curious the state of the Star's staterooms? We are booked on the Star in May and I'm hoping she isn't all weathered already? Wasn't she just rennovated? Did they rennovate the rooms during the last dry dock or is that expected with the next one?

We were in D612 in February and it was beautiful!

We were on the Star on the 2nd cruise after the fire. We were in the section that was burned but if I had not followed it so closely would never guessed which section it was. Everything was perfect and there was no smell. We will be on the Star in Jan. but will not have a balcony unless the Upgrade Fairy gets a nice streak. Interesting to see how it will look shortly after the dry dock.

We were on the Star this past January. She is in great shape. The only thing I found odd after being in the Crown Grill on the Crown and Caribbean Princesses was that the Crown Grill on the Star looked like the old Dessert Rose restaurant, and the menu was not quite as extensive as on the Crown and Caribbean Princesses. Vines store is now a candy shop with limited operating hours which was a bit of a disappointment since I've purchased gifts for friends back home in the Vines store on previous cruises.

The Princess site shows the Crown Grill on deck 7 of the Star Princess, towards the Princess Theatre. That's where the Desert Rose was located when I last sailed on her a few years ago.

Wasn't the last dry dock for the Star following the fire that took out a whole lot of staterooms? As I recall, I saw her out of the water here in San Francisco being worked on.

Yes we were on her that summer of 2006 in Europe after the fire, in one of the new post-fire cabins, and then on her again in Feb 2010 in South America, and I found our Aloha balcony cabin to still be in perfect condition as it was in 2006.

Looking forward to a "Proper" Crown Grill after the next dry dock

Last time we were onboard the Star (2005) we ate at the Crown Grill which was located at the aft in a section off part of the rear of Horizon Court. Is this still the current location? We'll be sailing on her in May.
I believe that you are thinking about the Diamond. She and the Sapphire have a Sterling Steakhouse in the aft portion of the Horizon Court. The Star was never configured that way. The Star was supposed to get a new Crown Grill on the Fiesta Deck during her 2008 drydock but circumstances prevented that. The Crown Grill is currently using the space of the former Southwestern themed restaurant on the Promenade deck with no change in decor.

Wish princess would add a signature feature to each ship. The grand rightly gets a new lounge area and some upgrades but it would be nice to see the star get some adjustments to make her a bit different than the golden. I know its probably easier for princess to just take the golden refit plans and give it to the contractors and say "do this, to the star" but it would be nice if there was something to make it a bit different. The star has an extra aft pool right? under the skywalk to skywalkers right?

Thats what I had always thought but noticed this on wikipedia...

Star Princess differs slightly in upper deck layout from her predecessors, having an extra plunge pool (and one less hot tub) at the stern (deck 15) and with the deletion of the "Off Limits" teenagers' hot tub & sunbathing area featured further forward on her predecessors.

And then looking at Golden/Star/Grand/Carib Deck plans confirms it, the Star and Carib have an extra pool under the walkway to skywalkers. Another fun note is that Carib's deckplans show Sky and Star deck as one in the same. I'm assuming this is an issue related to the putting course being on top of skywalkers on the Emerald/Crown/Ruby and the template used for those ships on the Carib Princess deck plan. Wish the drydock would put the put-put course on top of skywalkers on the Star Princess...but I'm sure thats wishful thinking...it would be dangerous and windy up there!

Well, this posting certainly answered our question. We were looking at the 16 day repositioning of the Star, December 8th but thought we might want to add the previous Med cruise to our itinerary for a total of 28 days. Today's air travel costs warrant longer cruises. But try as we may we could not find the relavent previous cruise. Hadn't thought of Dry Dock. Oh well, maybe the Grand...
