Princess Poshpaws Posted April 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Spring has arrived ,its 79degrees on the patio, and I am miserable, fed up and downright unhappy. Why?,'cos we had to cancel 2 cruises this year because of family problems-some of you may recall the incident-,however not daunted we rebooked last year a Jan 2005 cruise from Jacksonville on the Zenith,I can't wait ,it will be really fascinating spending 14 nights in dry-dock,never mind we have March 2005 and the Infinity to look forward too......I hope, Good Friday, and the promise of a sunny Bank Holiday weekend -a rarity in the UK,and what brilliant feat do I manage to achieve..............a pelvic girdle broken in 2 places, can't operate, too close to vital organs. Total bedrest and analgaesia for the next 6 weeks, and no horses until the autumn........... Trouble is,when I am not busy then I get up to all sorts of mischief!!!,difficult to do that when I am flat on my back(don't think it was intended to sound quite like that!). So I need loads of hugs please, and lots of humour on these pages to get me through. And is no-one sailing on 03/13/05 Infinity with us? Love to all my cruise-critic friends, even though some seem to have vanished into thin air!! Paws.

newtocc Posted April 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2004 A Good English Joke An American soldier, serving in World War II, had just returned from several weeks of intense action on the German front lines. He had finally been granted R&R and was on a train bound for London. The train was very crowded, so the soldier walked the length of the train, looking for an empty seat. The only unoccupied seat was directly adjacent to a well dressed middle aged lady and was being used by her little dog. The war weary soldier asked, "Please, ma'am, may I sit in that seat?" The English woman looked down her nose at the soldier, sniffed and said, "You Americans. You are such a rude class of people. Can't you see my little Fifi is using that seat?" The soldier walked away, determined to find a place to rest, but after another trip down to the end of the train, found himself again facing the woman with the dog. Again he asked, "Please, lady. May I sit there? I'm very tired." The English woman wrinkled her nose and snorted, "You Americans! Not only are you rude, you are also arrogant. Imagine!" The soldier didn't say anything else. He leaned over, picked up the little dog, tossed it out the window of the train and sat down in the empty seat. The woman shrieked and demanded that someone defend her and chastise the soldier. An English gentleman sitting across the aisle spoke up, "You know, sir, you Americans do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong b*tch out of the window." Oh Princess--so sorry to hear you are laid up!! I am sending out hugs to you!! Are you able to spend time on the boards/internet?? I guess you will have lots of time for some MAJOR planning before you cruise. Then there's always shopping on the net!! You could also take the time to read all 200+ pages of the "virtual cruise" thread in the theme cruises section of this board--it'll bring a few chuckles (hopefully not too painful in your condition!!) I broke some ribs once and every time I laughed--OUCH!! Hope you heal VERY quickly!! Lady "Driver, take me to Kensington Street Chelsea" Driver "No" Lady "What do you mean NO" Driver "I don't allow dogs in my taxi" Lady "I'm sorry, but is there a sign saying no dogs?" Driver "Well, er, no there isn't" Lady "Then take me to Kensington Street Chelsea before I have you reported" The driver takes her to Kensington Street Chelsea and just as she has given him the money without a tip he says "Here, your dog's p*ss*d in my taxi". L11 Posted April 26, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Oh, Paws! That is MISERABLE. I had a similar injury about 2 years ago (horse accident--yours too?). As soon as I could get up, my husband put me in the car, wheeled me down to the stable and parked me right in the middle of the barn at our stable. While he exercised the horses, I wheeled myself around visiting with the people and the other horses, then gave tons of snuggles to my horse, Faith (aka, the mare monster). It helped a lot, but I was counting the days till the doctor would let me mount up. Meanwhile, a little airline humor to help prepare for your cruise: As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Ronald Reagan Airport, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!" ******************************** After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced, "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted." ********************************** From a Southwest Airlines employee: "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight 245 to Tampa. To operate your seat belt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seat belt; and, if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised." *************************** "In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with more than one small child, pick your favorite." ***************************** Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but we'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest Airlines." ********************************* "Your seat cushions can be used for flotation; and, in the event of an emergency water landing, please paddle to shore and take them with our compliments." *********************** "As you exit the plane, please make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses." **************************************** And from the pilot during his welcome message: "Delta Airlines is pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight!" ******************************************** Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very hard landing in Salt Lake City: The flight attendant came on the intercom and said, "That was quite a bump, and I know what y'all are thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendant's fault, it was the asphalt." ********************************************* Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day: During the final approach, the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seat belts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!" ************************************************** Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal." *************************************************** An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying our airline." He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had gotten off except for a little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?" "Why, no, Ma'am," said the pilot. "What is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land, or were we shot down?" ******************************************************* After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the attendant came on the horn, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Capt. Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal." ************************************************************ Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of US Airways." *********************************************************** A plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport. After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the Captain made an announcement over the intercom, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, nonstop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax... OH, MY GOD!" Silence followed, and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier. While I was talking to you, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!" A passenger in Coach yelled, "That's nothing. You should see the back of mine!" ****************************************************** Heard on a Southwest Airline flight. "Ladies and gentlemen, if you wish to smoke, the smoking section on this airplane is on the wing and if you can light 'em, you can smoke 'em." Get well soon! jgnova Posted April 26, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Linda: I'm not sure she's supposed to laugh this much -- might move the bones before they have a chance to start healing. Where've you been? Princess: You'll be getting positive feelings -- or whatever we all do -- from all over. I do hope they help! I have done my time flat on my back, don't move or the bones will not mend properly, but never this much. I learned that you cannot watch television from that position when you have continuous bifocals (never tried it with regular bifocals). Also learned that the arms get pretty tired from holding a book above your face so you can read it. But a wireless modem and laptop and a pillow to elevate your head just enough -- that works. You can read Cruise Critic! Well, the wrists don't like it much, but you can do it anyhow. Will they let you up for short periods occasionally? Or in a week or so? P.S. Don't try to make much sense when you're taking the stronger (aka good) meds. I learned that, too. Jings Posted April 29, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 29, 2004 I hope you are broadminded. Please don't take offence Three gentlemen were sitting together on a flight from NY to London. The first man introduced himself. "I'm Digger Malone from Brisbane, Australia and I have a 9 inch p****." The man in the middle said " Good to know you Digger, I am Hank Schwartz from Houson, Texas and I have a 12 inch p****." The little fellow on the outside said " I am Jock Mcduff from Edinburgh, Scotland and I have a 15 inch p****." As the plane was coming into land the Australian said to the other two, "Sorry guys but I spun you a line. I really only have 4 inches". The American said "Don't feel bad, it was bothering me too. I am really a 5 inch man". They both looked expectantly at the Scotsman who said " Aye, OK I lied as well. I am really from Glasgow".

brigittetom Posted May 1, 2004 #25 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Paws, That's great news. I'll be honest, the reason we booked that cruise while we were on the Zenith is because we thought it would be great to be on the first cruise after drydock. I'm willing to forego that privilege if it means you get your cruise. I'm sure you will keep her in good shape for us. Actually, my husband and I talked about it this evening after he saw your post. My first instinct was to rebook as we usually cruise in Jan. but we do prefer the Eastern/Southern because we were married on Magens Bay and always go back to the exact spot with a bottle of Champagne to celebrate our anniversary. Last year we celebrated 4 times. You'd think that would get old, but it doesn't. Are you getting bored yet? I know England doesn't have the best television programming. How about some educational discs w/headphones. You could end up a genius by the time this is over. Honestly, I'm not making light of your situation. I really feel for you. We will try to keep you entertained a little.
