When we sailed last year Sept. 25th the weather was beautiful for all stops except St. John's. We had tee shirts on and in Boston we were actually sweating. In St. John's it was raining, cloudy and cold (raw) but we had a great time anyway.

You never know with Sept/Oct weather but on a whole I would think sweat shirt or sweat shirt jacket would be perfect.
sorry for butting in here but Radio's photos are just superb & has been linked to our thread, very timely for our up coming cruise, many thanks,

Hi Debbie,
We are booked on the 29th Sept. Explorer cruise Canada/New England, what was the fall colour like on your cruise last year?

The Halifax Webcam can be viewed HERE
For everyone:

On the webcam link, if you click the "24 hour history" tab above the webcam, then click on "1 min" where it shows the interval times, you can watch the shopping cart's departure yesterday (a.k.a. Princess ship).

You can even drag the timeline to watch Enchantment of the Seas and Carnival Glory arrive in Halifax today! Just move the slider to 9:05 to watch Enchantment's arrival and move the slider to 11:45 to watch Glory's arrival. (It's hard to see Enchantment's arrival with the fog, though.)

EDIT: It's too late to watch yesterday's departure of the Princess ship. It's been over 24 hours since her departure.
Yes, it's about a 15 minute walk along the boardwalk, which is adjacent to where the ship docks. The boardwalk is lovely too, with lots of local flavor along the way. We ended up walking the entire length and back, and it was a good inexpensive way to experience Halifax. We were mostly impressed with the hospitality of the local people.

The museum is actually called Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, and there are other exhibits besides Titanic, such as the Halifax explosion during WW1. They have a 3D National Geography movie about Titanic which costs a few dollars in addition to your general admission ticket, and it is well worth it.

http://museum.gov.ns.ca/mmanew/en/home/default.aspx
We combined that with a visit to the cemetery where the White Star Line paid for graves for victims some of whom were never identified and some whose families couldn't afford to have them shipped back to their home towns. There are rows and rows of very small headstones including the grave of an unknown baby which I believe has recently been identified but which always has flowers on it.

Donna, I just took a look at the pictures I took on my phone because I wanted to make sure that I was accurate and the colors were just beginning to turn, most of the follage was mostly green. You never know it could be different this year.

I decided to head down to Point Pleasant Park at the end of the harbour to take some pics of the ships leaving and I must say you guys have an audience here waiting for the departure! I've always thought it would be neat to have a pic of "your ship" when leaving port... Now put down your fork & knife and get up on deck and wave!!

I can hear the horn battles... Can't see them yet LOL

And they're almost out of sight... It's hilarious listening to people around me... Definitely non cruisers... OMG look how big it is.. Then carnival peeks around the corner... OMG look how big IT is... They'd probably pass out at the size of Oasis/Allure lol

Off to home to see if I can upload faster than Radio himself

Hello everyone. . . I made it back to the ship, and I can sum up my feelings about today in one word. . . FANTASTIC !
At first I thought exciting. . .then I thought maybe glorious. . .Oh well, we’ll stick with fantastic.

Just before I left the ship to go ashore, I stopped out on the Promenade deck, to see what I could see. Wow. . .The sun was coming out, and there were just a few clouds in the sky !

The weather stayed like that all day. Just when I thought that today would be a dreary, cloudy, and foggy day. . .the table are turned, and I will admit that the Captain was right again.
Last night he suggested (over an announcement) that there was an 80% chance of rain forecast for today. . .be he also suggested that we should look on the bright side. . . There is still a 20% chance of sunny skies !
I love an optimist. . .

I walked briefly though Pavilion 22, where the vendors were, and thought I will wait until I return to the ship to check out what was being sold.

I decided to take a cab down to Murphy’s cable wharf. . .I know, I know it is only a 15 minute walk, but I decided to get there quick, as I didn’t get off the ship until about 11AM.

Cable Wharf has many hats. . They are a nice Seafood restaurant, they are a tour operator, and they have several boats for different types of excursions. I really wanted to do the Whale watching tour on the Haligonian III which I went on back in 2008. Sorry Radio. . We are sold out. Ok how about the Harbor Queen, sure. . The ship leaves at 4, and gets back at 7PM. . .Grrrrr. Hmmm. . . .How about the Mar ?(A 40 Passenger Ketch) That leaves at 12:30PM and returns at 1:30PM. . .Perfect!

I had the time of my life on the Mar. . .It was a 2 mast sailing vessel that had circumnavigated the world twice. . . The Captain had 4 crew with him, and they were busy the whole time. The sails were lifted, adjusted, and maneuvered with precision. The nautical language that they were speaking sounded like I was in another world.

The Ketch went very fast, and we passed Enchantment of the Seas on the way. There were only about 15 passengers on board, so it wasn’t very crowded at all. They offered snacks, sodas, and bar drinks for sale. I can’t believe I made it all these years and have never “really” sailed, until today. It was delightful. . .

Well, after that experience I had to go to the brand new Tim Horton’s, right next to the Ferry Terminal. Ok. . .I forgot to mention that I visited Tim’s just before I went on the Mar. . .Ooops. (Why doesn’t Tim’s accepts VISA? Only Cash or master Card. . .Hmmm)

I then decided to walk up the hill to go to the Halifax Citadel. It was just a short 8 block walk up the hill. . .Ughh. . . I should have spent my money on a cab to the Citadel. The street was very steep. The Halifax Citadel was built in 1856,(it took 28 years to build it) and it still stands today. It is run by Parks Canada, and while there are many re-enactors that carry out demonstrations throughout the day. . .They seem to take great pride in what they are doing, and how the public reacts to them.
If you are interested in history, then this is a must -see attraction while in Halifax.

I decide I would now go back to Pavilion 22 to see what was available for purchase. On the way I saw a lot of crew members just outside the Java Factory. Hmmm. . .If the crew is there it must mean only 1 thing. . .Internet Access. Very fast access too. I just had to buy a Java Factory Cuban Coffee, and I had very fast accesst to uplad about 300 pics to my server. . . Nice.

I finally made it to Pavilion 22, and I will tell you that there is something for everyone in there and if you have forgotten to buy gifts for loved ones while on your cruise, then you should find it here. . . The Pier 21 Museum is also nice and while I wasn’t able to visit there today, I talked with many passengers who thought it was inspiring to view the artifacts, and watch several moving films. Pier 21 was the “Ellis Island” of Canada, and offers a lot of immigration history.

This will be my third trip to Halifax in 4 years, and my overall view of Halifax hasn’t changed. It is one of the cleanest big cities I have ever encountered. You know, it might be THE cleanest city . . . The locals are very friendly, and very helpful.
You will feel very safe here, and this also seems to be a leading Eco-friendly city. I want to come back again, and stay for a few days. I will just need to bring a Tim’s Card. . .

Here are a few pics from today. . . We still have 3 days left !

Thanks for the nice comments, and thanks for tuning in. . .

Radio - Thanks for taking me back to my hometown in pictures :) I am so glad you loved the city and that you had a wonderful day!

I sailed on the Mar 2 a few years ago......I wonder if the boat you were on today is owned by the same people?

You were very lucky with the weather today - someone on the east coast of Canada likes you! :D
