A potentially silly question regarding casino chips

Hi all,

I'm quite curious as to whether I can charge casino chips to my room card or not. I'd like to play at the casino a few nights of my trip on the Rhapsody, but Don't want to be shooting through cash and having to withdraw from ATMs every day or so.

Is charging to the account acceptable, or is the casino strictly cash only?

You can get chips (or cash) off your SeaPass card in the casino. Note, however, that they charge a 3% fee for doing this. Using an ATM may be cheaper. I think that the ATM charge is $6, so if you're planning to get more than $200, you may be better off using the ATM.

you can charge (as said before) to your sea pass card. My trick is to do $50 at a time and see how i go. If i feel the game i'm playing isn't going my way then i won't play on but if it is then i'll carry on but it is always best to set yourself a buget before you walk in there as it get very Las Vegas like in there.

Someone asks a simple question about access to casino cash and they get advice on how to gamble:rolleyes:

Whats wrong with "shooting through cash"(whatever that means)?

You pay either way.

Don't you want to avoid the fees?

Yes, I pay either way. My main concern is that I'm not exactly a cash person, and I really can shoot through it quickly without much of an appreciation of how much I am spending. If it is on my account, a simple check of my spending every day or two days will be a lot easier to keep track of.

And when I'm charged up the wazoo for using international ATMs, a 3% surcharge is small potatoes.

I recall you can possibly charge a $1000 or $2000 a day to your ship account.

I look at this entirely the opposite. My DW & I take cash only for gambling. To me that's "real" money in my hand. Every evening we peel our Bennies off the roll for the evening. If it goes, the gambling is over. So far that has never happened. :) At the end of the evening, we convert the chips back to cash and add back to the bankroll.

Charging "chips" to my account would be far from feeling it is "real" money. If the cash bankroll is diminishing, that's real obvious, a real simple check, and very easy to keep track of. Dropping Bennies on the table is "real" money, dropping the account card isn't. The reason they use chips is so you lose track of what the real money value is.

If you dont like cash use travelers checks. These are great you spend x amount of money to change it to travelers checks but they are garunteed if the get lost or stolen if you have to change it over ever day at the pursers desk it makes u realize how much you go through.

good luck in your casino adventure

You need to be tracked like a land casino.

If you play slots, always put your seapass card in. 2,000 points & you can sign up with the casino host. I do not know how tables are tracked.

We qualified 4 cruises ago. There are many perks.

Now when we first get on the cruise, the casino host puts a sticker on our seapass card so we do not get the 3 % charge. We also get free drinks in the casino.

This was our first time on the Oasis. They also put a sticker on allowing us to get in the shows without reservations. I had already made them online but I can see where that would be nice if your plans changed.

How does one join Casino Royale? is there a cost involved?

How much do you need to spend in the slots to get 2000 points?

So if you win some money, can you just go to the cage to have it credited to your onboard account? Or must you go to the pursers desk

Your given cash, so you are right in having to go to reception to credit your account.

The 3% charge has always bugged me, as said Traveller Cheques may be the answer and cheaper.

It requires very heavy play (at least for this non-gambler). 2000 points is a few thousand dollars through slot machines and about double or triple that through video poker machines. To get rated on the tables, I believe you have to average $50/hand bets for a few hours.

Cannot understand what is so hard about taking 10 one hundred dollar bills.

Start in the casino, peel off two. See how it goes. If it all goes in first night, you have 8 left. If you win, put that cash with the 8 in your pocket.

Ain't rocket science.

I do go to the casino a lot but you do not have to be a 'big' gambler.

The internet will actually say $5.00 average bet not $50.00 !

I do know you have to play longer if you do tables but I do not do that.

I usually play 25 cent machines with max coin in. On the Oasis, I mainly played the 2 cent machines with max coins which was 100 so it was actually $2.00 a spin. I got tons of play therefore tons of points.....much more than the 2,000 needed. On the downside....if you get no play, you can lose all your $$ right away & then have very few points.

When you put the card in the machine it shows your points so you know where you stand.

Others who played on the 2 cent machines with me qualified for the first time & the casino host approached them to sign up. I would not count on that. If you see you have enough points, find the host & sign up yourself. You need only do that once.

About 6 weeks after you get home you will get a letter in the mail with a membership card & your $$ off offer for your next cruise. For this last cruise we were on I got $350. & my husband $450. They apply it like cash to your next booking but you must use it within 1 year. And as I said earlier, there are all the perks onboard.

They are much more generous then any land casino then I have been to. Qualify once & you have it made.

There is no other type of cost to join.

Which ships are having machines that you can put your seapass in?

We sailed Vision in August and they did not have this function. We are sailing Brilliance in November, will there be such machines on her?
