Loved Seth Gibson on the Valor last New Years week........ unfortunately he is on a Princess cruise this year :(

Well he's on the Sunshine at the moment, getting tons of great comments (piano bar on this ship is goooood). But he does leave in 2 and a half weeks, and I do seem to recall him saying his next ship was non-Carnival.

 

Is Laura still here? Havent seen an update from her in quite some time.

I believe she mentioned somewhere that she's taking a break for a little while. I don't remember if somebody else in particular is keeping up with the list or not. Facebook's probably the most updated that we have, so I might copy that over.

So it looks like Tom Grable for us. Anyone know anything about him?

 

I just got off the ship with him and wasn't impressed by any means, the piano bar was empty most times I walked by. I think I was spoiled on my last cruise, when Ben Gentry was in the piano bar.

Anyone have any input on Martin on Conquest?

 

I'm not much of a piano bar person, but have started visiting them on my past few cruises. Why, because I was lured in by Angela Johnson when I was on the first leg of my B2B on Fantasy last October (when I was solo). Didn't care for her singing, but she was a lot of fun.

 

I now give whomever a chance, even if I just sit and listen for a song or two.

Sailed with Angela some years ago on one of her first sailings when she knew few songs and was frantically learning more. Back than thought she was very good.

 

Hoping to sail with her again when she must be a much more polished entertainer.

Very pleasant guy, enjoyed his playing, wasn't a fan of his singing style. Can't speak to crowd interaction because I could only stay for the first ~45min the three nights I went... not a lot of people there (yet).

Just got off the Valor with dana honey.

cool guy boring show/performance. Now this could just be me but he does these pre-recorded or backed melodies?!? He has an ipad and some other device that plays the bass line and other instruments while he plays piano and sings ...sorta.

 

IMO thats not the experience or interaction I go to the piano bar for. I like the guy/gal to play the piano and their artistic take on the song. to have pre-recorded music/melodies to back you up just kinda takes something away.

 

This is just my .02 cents. nice guy but he was pretty much by-himself every night.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like the piano bars are not drawing people they way they used to.

Was not impressed with Martin on Conquest. I stepped in a couple of evenings, but I simply cannot sit and listen to someone sing who is off key, so I never even sat down (thus cannot comment on his "entertainment" style).

 

wow the quality of their piano players has sure gone downhill. How sad.

More and more find them pretty empty. Since a good piano man helps to see booze would think they would want better people in there.

Dave is very well liked in the PB crowds. He has a song book of over 2000 songs mainly like the 50's-80's not a lot of adult songs. I like the adult side of a PB but I would and have booked cruises just to see Dave.

Yes it is, I used to spend all cruise in the piano bar, but on Inspiration, I spent about 10-15 min in there and walked out. Was not impressed by Tom Grable in the slightest.

 

I couldn't agree more!

 

We used to close down the piano bar every night but not anymore. We miss it a lot since it was our favorite nighttime venue.

 

Last year on the Freedom the piano singer was Martin Aucoin. We tried to give him a chance, but he couldn't sing. I have never heard someone who was actually being paid to sing sound so off key. After my sister and my friend left me at the piano bar, there were only 3 other patrons left besides me, and then I soon left.

 

As much as I hate cigarette smoke, I think maybe they should make the piano bar a smoking venue again. When people could smoke in there, it was always hopping--you could barely find a seat. Maybe if the bar generated more revenue they could pay for the better singers.

 

This past year we've taken a break from Carnival but are considering the Breeze for next year. I'm hoping the piano bar improves by then.
