cgc33a Posted October 1, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2011 Trying to plan an Alaska Cruise Tour. Many days away and limited to what one can bring per the airlines. Want to find a line that has self serve laundry facilities on board. I know that Disney does, Carnival usually does, RCCL has not on the ships I have been on (unless that has changed). What about Princess, Celebrity, HAL, or any of the others that go to Alaska? TIA
CruiserBruce Posted October 1, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2011 HAL only has self service laundromats on it's older, smaller ships. Statendam, Ryndam, Amsterdam, Veendam, Zaandam, Rotterdam. Not on it's newer larger ships.
terracool Posted October 1, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2011 NCL Pearl has them. I did my laundry on our Juneau port day as I'd heard that it can be very tough to get a machine on sea days when everyone wants to do laundry. It took very little time and I could have easily made it into Juneau after I was done. But when I was done with laundry, I looked around and realized I sort of had the ship to myself so I grabbed a chair in the sun in the outdoor cafe, drank coffee, and enjoyed the quiet. . cb at sea Posted October 2, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2011 RCI and Celebrity have NO self-service laundry facilities. If you need something cleaned or washed, you'll have to either send it to the ship's laundry, or do it in your sink. Or, bring enough clothes so you don't have to wash! texkan Posted October 2, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2011 Celebrity Cruise Line does not have self service laundry. Princess Coral has self service laundry. We sailed Alaska on Coral.

NCL no longer has self-serve laundry rooms on any of their ships, I'm sorry to say. They did away with them around 2008 or 2009. :(

wrp96 Posted October 4, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 4, 2011 Just an FYI, while Princess does have self serve laundry rooms, there are many days, depending on where the ship is, that the laundry rooms cannot be opened. This is probably an issue on other ships as well, but I specifically remember seeing complaints this year on the Princess boards from people who planned to use the laundry rooms to lighten their luggage for their cruise/land tour and then got onboard and found out the laundry rooms were only open for one day of their cruise. REBAlin Posted October 6, 2011 #14 Share Posted October 6, 2011 Hi Cool Cruiser: I am escorting a group on the Coral Princess and yes it does have self-service laundry facilities. I would love for you to join us. We are going to Copper River! 7-nights land then 7-nights cruise starting 7/23/12. Putterdude Posted October 6, 2011 #15 Share Posted October 6, 2011 Princess has coin-op laundries but they typically not open while in port. The issue with them being closed in Alaska was with the Sea Princess which did not have holding tanks large enough hold all of the gray water produced by laundries. However the Coral, Island, Diamond, Sapphire and all of the Grand class ships are in compliance with Alaskan regulations.
SadieN Posted October 6, 2011 #16 Share Posted October 6, 2011 HAL only has self service laundromats on it's older, smaller ships. Statendam, Ryndam, Amsterdam, Veendam, Zaandam, Rotterdam. Not on it's newer larger ships. The only fight I have seen onboard was on the last sea in the Volendam laundry room. Mother & daughter thought it was ok to leave their laundry in the dryer for several hours after they out it in.
