Who else is worried about the weather?

I am sitting here like an idiot hitting "refresh" on Hurricane Central like there is anything new to learn about this "potential named storm" hanging around southern FL. We sail from Jacksonville on Monday and I am starting the whole family on Bonine tomorrow! DH and I can hunkerdown and make it through (I think), but I'd hate for my children's first cruise to be a washout. Yuck! :(

Relax. You're stressing for nothing. I'm in Florida and have heard nothing of this "potential" storm. Being in Florida that kind of stuff is top news and I've not seen a thing till this post. I've even looked before responding to this.

The system is no longer predicted to be tropical. Wind and rain. Below is from

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/article.html

A large low pressure system with heavy rain is expected to develop over Cuba, South Florida, and the Bahamas on Saturday. The counter-clockwise flow around this low will bring strong winds and heavy rains to much of the Florida coast on Saturday, and these conditions will spread northwards to Georgia by Sunday and South Carolina by Monday. I doubt that this storm will acquire enough organization to evolve into a subtropical storm that gets a name, based on the latest model output, and the fact that the storm's center may well be over the state of Florida. This will be a large, diffuse system that will bring strong winds and heavy rains to a large area of the Southeast U.S. coast, regardless of the exact center location. Portions of the coastal waters along the Florida Panhandle, as well as from Northeast Florida to South Carolina, are likely to experience sustained winds of 30 - 40 mph Monday and Tuesday. Since the storm is going to get its start as a cold-cored upper-level low pressure system with some dry air aloft, it will not be able to intensify quickly.

I have been watching it too sailing on Monday from Miami. 40 mile an hour winds on the departure day doesn't sound like smooth sailing to me so I started the kids on dramamine today (to get them used to it so they won't be so sleepy onboard). I am taking my zofran just in case but doesn't look like it's going to get any worse weather than the wind/rain..

I, too, live in Florida, and heard none of this. My area is being pelted with rain, so sorry for anyone leaving Out of Poet Canaveral today! It is so windy, the casino ships have cancelled sainings for today. I'm going to need a boat to leave my house. LOL

Pretty sure the larger ships won't have any issues. Seas may be a bit rough, but nothing to worry about.

I'm in the Jax area. Currently we are having a nor'easter with bouts of heavy rain, ending sometime Monday. I agree with the consensus that it's nothing to worry about. I did see/hear about a potential TS named Rina that may come close to the Jax coast, but so far nothing to worry about.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful cruise!!

nhc.noaa.gov is now showing a low pressure area over the Bahamas heading north/NW (it actually says "slowly")...National Hurricane Center updates come out at 2am, 8am, 2 pm, and 8 pm.... so stop looking because you won't see anything new. I think those taking short cruises to the Bahamas are going to have a crappy time weatherwise, but it's no hurricane. Anyone leaving Miami, Ft Lauderdale, and Port Canaveral may have a rough first day at sea. Doubt it will ruin the whole trip though.

Western Caribbean looks good...it's overcast with a nice strong breeze on the west coast of FL right now.

KentuckyKat: As of Sunday morning Jacksonville weather report: rains and wind from the nor'easter will continue through Tuesday. Our surf is high and no doubt you will have a rough departure Monday evening. Starting your family on bonine is a smart move on your part.

I'm sorry the weather is less than ideal, but at least you are planning for it and I know will make the best of it. Hope you soon travel through the rough, wet weather and find sunny skies for the duration of your cruise!

I am with you! We are sailing the same cruise and are hoping for the best!
