We are here ... Ship is not!!!

Fascination is not in Jax yet! Tried to park and they told us to come back at 2:00. Ship hasn't made it in because of the bridge. Oh no!!! Why doesn't CCL send an email when there is a delay?

Going to the zoo.

That stinks! At least you know of something else to do- like the zoo. I feel bad for others that are getting dropped off by an airport transfer/shuttle and don't have or know of anywhere else to go!

But- for those smart ones that stop by cruise critic before leaving for the port- now they know! So- thanks for the heads up!! I'm sure it will be appreciated... :)

Not a great start, but I'm sure that you will have an awesome cruise.

The said on another thread that you shouldn't come to the pier until 3pm, boarding would be between 3 and 7pm with an 11pm departure.

The itinerary isn't supposed to be affected.

All of this because of the tide. They said the ship is currently docked at the cargo pier.

My girlfriend is on the ship now and left us a text saying that it would be late. No time given.

sorry you have to wait. What a mess it'll be before you get on.

This whole cruise has been difficult. Delayed leaving, missed ports due to weather, now this. I'm sure she'll have a story to tell.

Hope you have a great cruise despite the delay. :)

I thought I saw a post somewhere saying they call the phone # associated with the booking.

We almost always use our cell phone for booking vacations since of course we are not home if changes occur.

This is on Carnival's FAQ page:

Fascination 10/10/2011 - Delayed

Due to adverse weather conditions, and the high tide this morning not allowing us to clear the Dames Point Bridge, the Carnival Fascination will be delayed arriving from its previous cruise. The ship is currently docked at the Jacksonville Cargo pier until the tide lowers and we can clear the bridge.

Debarkation will not commence until we are docked at the Jacksonville Cruise Terminal. We anticipate being docked alongside around 12:30 PM and debarkation will begin immediately.

For guest’s comfort and convenience, due to limited seating, we encourage guests to make plans to arrive at the terminal no earlier than 3:00 PM as check in will run from 3:00PM to 7:00 PM. Since we too will have to wait for the tide to lower in order to safely clear the bridge once we sail, we will delay our departure and are now scheduled to sail at 11:00 PM. At this time, the delay will have no impact on our scheduled itinerary.

We suggest you visit the local Regency Square Mall located 8 miles from the terminal (address and map below) where you can take advantage of a variety of dining and shopping venues while you wait.

We are lucky that the parking people told us the zoo was about 1 mile away. We are going to treat this as a shore excursion. We are not planning to do much in Nassau so that will be a ship day and this will be a shore day! It's all good as long as we are on board for dinner! But I think I may rearrange some packing so I will have clothes with me when we board.

It has been raining in Jacksonville and surrounding areas since Friday due to a Nor-easter. Non-stop rain all day Sunday with many power outages last night. The beaches area is expecting 3-5 inches of rain today.

On the bright side - we need the rain. The fires have been very bad this year.

You have an AWESOME attitude about this!! So many people would be ranting about this & wanting to know how Carnival was going to compensate them for failure to control the tides or the height of the bridge. Thanks for having such a refreshingly positive attitude!! :D

i guess the ships is not built for this, but i remember some cargo ships can sink itself so that it can clear bridges better without relying on tides. Maybe this is an upgrade that carnival should do to some of its ships

What happens when flights are missed because of not getrting to port on time. I never book flights untill the afternoon but it seems like it is going to be after 3 before anyone gets off and gets their luggage. Is Carnival responceable? Do they help out.

And yes I always have insurance too. Just wondering what happens.

Just got email from carnival 12:35 telling if the delay and suggesting that we go to the mall. The email said boarding will be between 3-7 but the number the email told us to text for updates says boarding between 4-8.

My question is what about dinner? We have late dining and with it only being a 5 day cruise I don't want to miss a MDR dinner! Just had to spend $45 for lunch for 5 -- my good attitude may deteriorate if I don't get some on-board food today!!

Well, cheer up. Could be worse. Sensation at Canaveral loaded yesterday, expecting to leave at 4. They sat in port for all last night, left today at 8 a.m.! Casino withdrawal for a lot of people, and weather was so bad they couldn't even go outside!

There was a huge thread about this very thing a few days ago. Anything can happen. If one knows that going in, missing a flight is not as big a deal if all you have to do is get rebooked. If you have to get rebooked AND pitch a hissy fit "cause you didn't know", it's a much bigger ordeal, IMHO.

OP, I hear ya on the food!! Good luck to you and your family. What a mess

I live here and Jax and was on my way across the Dames Point bridge at about 10am and wondered why the Fascination was docked where the cargo ships usually are. I forgot about the Noreaster we have been pounded with the whole weekednd. Last night I thought we were in a hurricane. The news states that we were under a hurricane watch until 1 pm. Several homes on the Westside and Flemming Island had extensive damage from a waterspout turned tornado that touched down early this am.

The tide is too high and it will be unable to pass under the Dames Point until after 1pm per the news. However, we are supposed to get even more rain in the next couple of hours and the ship has to go back under the bridge. That bridge sucks for several reasons, but mainly it keeps larger, newer ships from our port. I never understood why the port was placed on that side of the bridge.

You serious a hurricane watch from your local news, it isn't even a tropical storm nor will it be. We are getting the wind and rain here now from it.

When our ship was delayed returning last year, Carnival only directly helped those people that were booked through them for their air. Everyone else got free phone calls to their airline and/or travel agent to make their own arrangements.

They also announced that if you were using Carnival's insurance and had booked your own air, the insurance would NOT cover the change fees. For third party insurance, you'd have to read your policy.

Our airline waived the change fees due to the delay being the fault of the cruiseline, but my friends who were booked with a different airline had to pay $150 per person.
