RD64 Posted January 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Recent Crown Princess cruisers..... does the Crown ever dock downtown with the scenic views of the buildings and the Queen Emma bridge, or does it only dock in the secondary port area? Many thanks....
kywildcatfanone Posted January 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We were there in December and did not dock in the downtown area near the moving bridge, there were celebrity and aida cruise ships in that area and a couple of others on inside. Someone asked this in another thread a few weeks ago and someone responded that the Crown always docks on the outside, but I don't know for sure, just my one experience. Whimsy Posted January 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We were just there the week of 1/14. We were the only ship in port and they did not dock downtown. Very disappointing.
chrysalis Posted January 28, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Been a long time since we docked downtown...only did that when we were on sun-class ships.
Rare Amber14 Posted January 28, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Are you still within walking distance of the town?
Jasperdo Posted January 28, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Are you still within walking distance of the town?Yes you are. This photo of the Dawn Princess was taken after we had crossed the Queen Emma Bridge and were right in the heart of downtown Willemstad: Willemstad, Curacao by Jasperdo, on Flickr
kywildcatfanone Posted January 28, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Any idea about the Grand? Same place as the Crown, or elsewhere? Pia, I don't know the answer, but as I said, someone mentioned that all Princess ships dock outside of the moving bridge like we did on the Grand in December. Perhaps the size of the ship matters, the day we were there there were Celebrity and Aida ships inside the moving bridge area, but they were smaller than the Grand. Even still it's a pretty easy 10 minute walk to the bridge and across into town. Mike
cdnguy Posted January 28, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We were there in Nov. on the Crown and docked at the ocean side area. Not the one downtown. Think HAL and Princess use the ocean side docking exclusively although a Carnival ship was using the downtown dock when we were there. The ocean side dock is fine. It's an easy walk through a very nice mall area to downtown. About 10-15 mins.
Rare Essiesmom Posted January 28, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2012 On Westerdam, we docked downtown. Ventura was outside. EM

It's been quite a few years since we've docked in Curacao and I just didn't recall the relationship between ship and town.

boca7 Posted January 30, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 30, 2012 Seems like Princess & Holland Am always get the less preferable docking area. Hate docking in St. Thomasat the Crown (old Navy yards).

granlea Posted January 30, 2012 #15 Share Posted January 30, 2012 Are there any transport options to the downtown area? My father walks well enough not to need a wheelchair, but 10-15 minutes of walking, especially in the sun, is too much for him. Alternatives please???
