Rare ghstudio Posted June 14, 2014 #776 Share Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) We are taking our first cruise on the Reflection in way. We are actually doing a wine cruise (part of a group from a big box warehouse). Our package comes with the classic beverage package. We are thinking of using some of our OBC to upgrade to the premium package. We are also staying in Aqua Class and will be getting free water and afternoon tea. Here are things we like to drink: Bottled water Rum and Coke Mojitos Specialty Coffee (with a shot of Baily's) Drink of the Day Do you recommend the premium package for this or would the $220 OBC be better used for a shore excursion. Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I added to this thread not to start another one. Also, I think someone mentioned something about smoothies? Are they included in a drink package? If so, can anything be delivered to the room? We are coming from HAL and do not understand the X ways yet. bottled water (but not sparkling water) is part of the classic package. Sparkling requires premium. Rum and coke is part of classic package as are, I'm sure mojitos. Not sure on specialty coffees with a splash of any of the liquors included in the classic package should be included in classic. Smoothies are included in classic. Drink of the day is included..maybe....if there's a special price that brings it under $8.00 but it's normally over $8.00 they may or may not include it. None of the packages include delivery to your room or taking something from the refrigerator/bar in your room. Having said all that, we upgrade because we enjoy some liquors that aren't on the classic package...the wine selection is better and if we want a better wine, we only pay the incremental charge (with the classic package, if any drink is over the limit, you pay the full price of that drink, not the incremental price). Additionally, we take very few celebrity excursions...we go with a smaller group met on the roll call, or do our own thing....so I'm not sure I'd recommend using your OBC on that, even if you don't get the drink package. Like the person who just replied, I can't say if you are better using the OBC for upgrade - we wouldn't because there will be plent of alcohol and wine for us) but I wouldn't say you have to use the OBC for shore excursions. Unless you got PPD gratuaties, the gratuities for the two of you will be more than the $220 OBC so that'll eat it up. And we also tend to find private (noc cruise line run) shore excursions because of cost as well as fact that they are smaller groups. Steve We normally to private excursions but there is one port in Greece where we don't get in until 2 and leave at 11. We also have to tender so doing a ship excursion that day may make sense. The town is up on a mountain so the logistics and timing could be rough on our own, especially if we got a late tender ticket. We booked a special Wine Cruise package through a warehouse club and we get a ton of OBC from them along with the classic beverage package and pp gratuities through X. We could have picked the extra $300 OBC instead is the gratuities for 11 nights in aqua class only come out to $275.
2flacruisers Posted June 23, 2014 #780 Share Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Can anyone who has sailed recently verify if Jack Daniels or JW Red are still on the Classic Bev. package? The cruiseline list just says "including but not limited to"..neither are listed on the Prem. package list... Thanks... drinkspackageexpert Posted June 23, 2014 #781 Share Posted June 23, 2014 The 123GO promo is just another upsell tactic. Very little quality in the Classic. Paid an extra $405 for two Classics, now another $161 to upgrade to premium, not sure $566 extra for drinks is worth it for us, except that the traditional bottle of wine at dinner in the MDR will be at least $40x seven days. I am going to disagree I am afraid. :p When I priced up next year's cruise for myself.and my 3 children, I priced it with and without the 123GO offer. AND the price was identically be I was lucky and I accept that it may likely not be the case for everyone bit for me the price was the same regardless of whether I took the perks or not. :D

You obviously book your cruise via a UK travel agent. Have you considered the prices via a US T/A - you will then realise that you are paying over $1000 pp more for a 14 day cruise. Have you considered the prices via a US T/A - you will then realise that you are paying over $1000 pp more for a 14 day cruise. Nothing obvious about how i booked actually. I never consulted a TA of any kind. I did my own research and priced up the cruise with and without perks and had every intention of booking online...however due to a question in ref to the classic drinks package for my 11 year old, I decided to ring Celebrity direct, at which point they reduced my fare, gave me a 1 category upgrade, drinks packages for myself and passengers 3 and 4 plus internet time for those passengers also, as well as a generous amount of OBC. I am not going to publish how much I paid, but needless to say, I am very very happy with the price i got and the content. :D:D
oregon50 Posted June 23, 2014 #786 Share Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Upsell? Not for us. Our next cruise was up $610 pp with no perk over what we paid with a perk. Now it is up $810 pp with the 123 back. We have friends that have been purchasing the packages for a number of years, they are nothing new. The pkg makes it cost effective to order 3 glasses of wine which would cost $12-14 ea than buying a bottle @ $50-60 and only getting 2 glasses each. And yes, there is a lot more to what the total pkg encompasses than just booze. Here is my "RUFF" run down of a day with a drink pkg on another thread For us at least, the package was not just about drinks that would make us not remember the cruise! It was everything else that the pkg includes. A speciality coffee each on the balcony while the wifester is putting on her face, $5 ea. Evian or San Pellegrino with fresh squeezed juice with that second coffee at breakfast, $15 ea. Grab a bottle water on the way to stake out a deck chair, $4 ea. $24 each before any mind altering liquid is consumed. A beer or the drink of the day by the pool, $6 ea Then off to lunch, maybe a soda, or another San Pellegrino $5 ea The sun is hot hot hot! A cold beer or drink of the day is in order, $6 ea The burger at the Mast Grill is calling our names, it does not go down with out some liquid assistance, $5 ea, then it is time to meet friends to watch the sun set from the Sunset Bar, $6 ea. Afternoon total $28. And the evening fun has yet to begin. San Pellegrino and a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, and another speciality coffee with desert, $26 ea Now it is time for some mind altering sampling to happen, or not A cocktail with friends at one of the watering holes on ship $7 ea, or 2 if we are letting our hair down! One more bottle water on the way back to the cabin just in case we get thirsty during the night, $4. Evening total, $44. Morning, $24, day, $28, evening $44, total $96.00 each useing the low end of the cost scale and not much mind altering substance. Some evening's we will grab another coffee ( or worse) and go and sit on deck 5 to unwind, listen to the swoosh of the waves gently breaking down the side of the ship before heading to the cabin. Depends on how you make use of the package. Very impressive.....I figure X's cost for your daily splurge at about $14.75. And you did better than most. SteveinPhilly Posted July 30, 2014 #789 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Someone on our roll call just posted this: http://www.cruisewithgambee.com/2014...cruise-drinks/ I notice the two Mexican beers, Corona and Dos Equis are now priced above the $6 classic drink package limit. SteveinPhilly Posted July 30, 2014 #790 Share Posted July 30, 2014 She confirmed that they did make changes and probably will again. They added more covered cocktails but she confirmed that only beer covered is Miller and Bud. The reason given was that the cost to Celebrity to buy the products had gone up, (Of couse I can't believe that all the ships in Europe can buy Bud and Miller cheaper than the European beers.) She also confirmed that there is no X websitre that lists what is included. The wine list was trimmed too. She said they are monitoring customer feedback so I plan to send an email stating that I'm dissapointed that only 2 beer brands are covered (and if you choose say "Heineken" or "Dos Equs" you have to pay $7.00 (Plus 15%) even if you have the classic package. Others that feel this was a bad move on X's part may want to do the same. Steve

lousyactor Posted July 31, 2014 #797 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Hi JohnB, Thanks so much for the feedback! Just hearing from you that things look covered is a relief, because I know how much time you put into the menus! I knew you are planning on posting additional menus as you are able, which is great, and the by the glass lists are especially helpful in evaluating bev packs. I would love to see the Olympic list, but I don't remember ever seeing one and I don't think that is one you will have, is it? Good info about Blu having the same menu although that won't impact us. The inlaws are huge wine drinkers so this is important stuff for them. What's funny is that for the Spouse, the Spawn and me, water, iced tea and milk are the usual bev choices with perhaps a glass of wine at dinner, so part of what I am sending to him, after all this information collecting is "don't bother with beverage packages for any of us" And I am sure he has no clue about the effort. When I sent him info a week and a half ago letting him know about a fare drop he was very reluctant to contact his TA. He was sure I must be mistaken. Couldn't imagine I had been watching the posted fares. Boy was he surprised when he got a $200x10 adjustment! It's just not in their nature to *work the system*, whereas I am ALL about finagling! So thanks for the feedback, AND for your initial effort with that huge winelist! OMG you are a Legend......I think Next, memorise it so you can recite it at the critic welcome party
lousyactor Posted July 31, 2014 #798 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Hi, the FIL just got back to me and (yay) he got the price drop on the fare for the 10 of us. Now he is trying to understand the Beverage package policies. Yeah, I know, who isn't ; -) So I have tried to gather up as much of the excellent advice I have found here and put it into a (hopefully) coherent format. I am also including menus I have gathered up around here. I would appreciate it if you experts could eyeball it and let me know if I have any glaring omissions, errors or misrepresentations! Hi Everyone, So there you have it, the 2012 Celebrity Wine List for the Main Dining Rooms. Now as I understand it, this is the FULL LIST for the MDRs FLEET WIDE … but is not necessarily so that ALL wines will be available in ALL Venues… or in some cases there will be only a limited amount of bottles of some selections. Specific Wine Lists for each of Celebrity’s Ships in the fleet will have the current availability… if one is seeking a specific wine, then you should consult one of the MDR’s Sommeliers. I would like to once again thank the wonderful crew on the Celebrity Solstice who got this info to me… Igor – the Maitre D’ of the Grand Epernay Dining Room Amir – the Head Sommelier OMG what a legend! have you memorised that yet?
