Hi toberman

But what about the staff captains

or do we need to start using Master Mariner

and then captains

yours Shogun

It's cool that you're putting the list together. I found out the other day from one of the female officers who is on a career track to become a captain on Princess that there are two female captains in Australia P & O/Princess. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names. Maybe someone who has sailed with them will give you the names and ships so you can add them to your list.

Hi All

There is an female officer from Scotland that was hoping to become a captain, however would still just be a first officer, then a staff captain takes more than a few years to get a cruise ship.

I hope that all the captains are equally knowledgeable and it would make no difference who you get. Yes, some are friendlier, better speakers, etc. We just don't want to get the one that abandons ship during an emergency.

I starded a thread ( probably on second page of list of threads now) called What makes a great captain. There were some very interesting answers. I see it differently now.

I would be so honored to sail on her first voyage. I hope Princess will let us know long enough in advance !

I received one of those from your captain messages yesterday for our January 25th cruise on the Diamond. Usually these messages have the captain's name in the subject and a picture and seemingly personalized message from the captain. This one just said it was "A message from Your Captain for Booking XYZ" and was signed "Sincerely,

Captain of the Diamond Princess ". Wonder who our captain will be?

We just finished the Beijing to Bangkok cruise on the Diamond Princess. Captain Dino Sagani was great, always walking around and visible. We got to chat with him twice. He announced on our cruise that he will be taking over the new Royal Princess AFTER it's inagural cruises in the latter half of 2013. Maybe he's headed out to the Royal early to familiarize himself with that ship.

when we sailed in the crown princess in 1990 for our honeymoon we had cptn Romano, when we sailed the grand in 2003 he was the captain also, in 2006 he was also the captain in the caribbean princess and once we had the chance to say hello to him in the horizon court and told him about our past cruises with him. he invited us with our kids for a quick tour of the bridge, it was very nice of him and our kids really enjoyed it. in 2 weeks we will sail in the ruby and i hope i can say hello to him. looks like he will be in the royal, hope to see him again in 2014.

he is by far our favorite captain and i think he is princess top captain since he is given the ships to inagurate, i dont know if all but a lot of them.

There are at least 4 female masters on cruise ships.

Capt. Sarah Breton from UK joined P&O Austalias Pacific Pearl in mid 2011.

She was welcomed by Carnival Australias CEO Ann Sherry & joined four other female heads of departments onboard.

Sarah joined P&O UK as 3rd officer in 1989 & has worked her way up to master on P&O & Princess ships.

There are 2 female masters with Royal Caribbean -

Karin Stahre-Jansen from Sweden who was the first from about 2007.

Recently Liz Lauritzen was promoted master.

Cunard also have Inger Olsen from Denmark as Captain.

I just got off of the CB yesterday and the Captain was Mariano Manfuso. I met him several times over the 14 days and he was quiet but nice. He really was a bit busy with hurricanes and such. He kept us very well advised, the best he could.

Got our pre-cruise e- mail for the Feb 3 sailing of Ruby From Captain John Foster

Too bad - we were hoping to see Captain Tony Yeoman again - he was very professional, accommodating and informative as captain.

Captain Foster is also excellent, very approachable. :)

He also came to our M&G and spent alot of time talking and answering questions.

Yes, Captain Foster is a great Captain (but quite short :)). He took over mid-voyage a couple of years ago on an Alaskan cruise from SF on the Sea Princess. During our bridge tour, he remembered my son from the hypnotist show earlier in the cruise (my son was hypnotized and was given giant disco glasses and everytime a particular song was played, he jumped up, put the glasses on and started disco-dancing... 'twas a hoot!)... I guess because he wasn't in command at that time, Capt. Foster took in a few of the shows. My son was a bit embarrassed that the Captain knew who he was... We also had a great conversation with him concerning sailing in Alaska. Oh, and we also made an unscheduled stop in Glacier Bay to render assistance to a person sailing on a yacht who was having a medical emergency. Needless to say, we were quite impressed by Capt. Foster.
