Do all cruisers get a "sign & sail" card?

Or just the adults? My husband and I will be traveling with our 4 kids (ages 7-12) and I'm wondering if the kids will have these sail & sign cards too.

I was planning on getting lanyards for my husband and I, and then thought maybe the kids need them too?

Everyone gets one.

In addition to being your room key and charge card, every time anyone leaves the ship, they will "clock out" with that card.

When they return, they will "clock back in".

The ship knows exactly who is off the ship, and who is back on.

Yes every passenger, and crew member too, get a a Sign & Sail, or Sea Pass (every line calls them something different). As was mentioned above, they are your room key, boarding pass, and charge card. All that being said, you can remove the ability to charge things from your children's cards so they don't "break the bank" with video games, etc.

Have fun on your cruise.

When our kids were young, we used to get them an "extra key" from the customer service desk - it is actually labeled that way - and it is only used to enter the room. We held onto their actual Sea Pass. This way, if they lost the "key" it was not a big deal. We always took charging privileges off their cards for them. If they wanted to buy something, they needed to come to us.

Everyone gets one, children included. Cruise lines also take your photo at check-in and associate that photo with your particular card, with your name on it. They sorta verify the photo of you (on a computer) when you leave and re-board the ship as your card will be scanned when you do. It acts as your room key, charge card and ID onboard.

I'm not sure if they limit, or can limit, charge access on minors cards, although I expect something can be arranged at check-in or onboard. I'm sure someone will answer that. EDIT.... and it's already been answered, I'm just repeating information....

If the children are too young to be anywhere by themselves, the parents will hold their card....they will have no need to carry it themselves. However, you HAVE to have it to get off and on the ship, so you must keep the card with you at all times.

If the kids will be off on their own, then they will need the card if they wish to go to the cabin or buy something. That's the ONLY reason they need to carry their own card.

Ok, that actually makes sense. Thanks so much!

When you first are boarding the ship, your photo is taken to be embedded into your card. Every time you leave the ship, you insert your card into a machine at the gangway (you'll hear a ding). When you return, a crew member will look at the photo that comes up when you insert the card again, and that picture needs to resemble you. You'll do the same procedure for any young ones with you.

We used to carry our daughter's card when she was young as she was always with us when not signed into the kids' area. On our last cruise, she was 13 so she carried her own card in the lanyard I bought at Walmart for her. No need to get your card punched if you get a lanyard with a plastic sleeve.

When checking in at the pier before embarkation, you can indicate the billing (whether everyone in your party uses the same credit card or different ones, and whether your minors get charging privileges). BTW, those under 21 have their cards marked so that the older ones can't buy booze.

Carnival doesn't mark the card in any way for the under 21s.

OP- the kids accounts can be backed with cash.

This is true. And you can rest assured knowing that if an under 21 tries to purchase an alcoholic beverage at a bar, they will be denied. Apparently, the bartender is able to see a birthdate when they swipe the sail and sign card on their machine.

Kids will probably also get some sort of wrist band that identifies their muster station in case of an emergency. And, if there is a real emergency, you should go to your muster station as your kids will already be escorted their by the ship's staff. I'm not sure, but Camp Carnival (deck 5 forward on your Carnival Legend) might have lanyards for the kids. Never hurts to ask.
