Just back! What a cruise on the Dream!

This is my first review, so I will try to keep it short.

Left 7/21 on the Dream for the western caribbean.

I was a little worried since I had read so many negative reviews, but I couldn't have asked for a better cruise.

Flew to Orlando 2 days early and spent Friday at Magic Kingdom. It was way too hot and humid. I will need to visit again when it is cooler.

Shuttle from airport to hotel was right there and ready and shuttle from hotel to Port Canaveral was early. Arrived at the port around 11:00 and joined a short line. Went straight through and was on the boat within 15 minutes.

Could not find anything to complain about. No chair hogs, no kids in the adult area, wonderful staff and very clean ship. Our cove balcony was great! The elevators were a little slow and food in the dining room did take a little while, but there were 4500 people on the ship. I can understand why it takes longer.

Visited Cozumel (A), Belize (just shopped), Roatan (B+) and Costa Maya (A).

Shuttle was waiting when we got off of the ship. Spent another night in Orlando and shuttle arrived early to take us to the airport.

We will certainly sail with Carnival again. If anyone has questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Glad to hear you had a wonderful time on the Dream. :) We will be on the Dream in October! This will be our 1st time out of Port Canaveral, so I am trying to do my homework.

Question - you mentioned hotel and shuttle to the port. Where did you stay and if you don't mind me asking how much was the shuttle from hotel to port?

Thanks!

Jennifer

We stayed in Orlando at the Holiday Inn at Lake Buena Vista. We were within walking distance of Downtown Disney. The night before we flew home we stayed at the Radisson at Lake Buena Vista. We used SuperShuttle from and to the airport. Cost was $38 each way for 2.

Used Cocoa Beach Shuttle to and from the port. Cost was $90 each way for 2.

Glad you had a great time we going in two months ourselves. What did you do in Roatan I see you rated it a B why? Did you find alot of mosquitos there?

We do have questions as few give me different answers and if you not mind (some people get annoyed I ask these questions alot but I do because everybody has different experiences, advice, opinions and such and like to hear them all)

1- How was the food in the lunch buffet and did they have any meat carvings offered daily? Any meat hot entree's other than wok, tandori, pasta, burrito, chicken nuggets? How was the salad bar besides the ordinary green lettace, tomatoes and such did they have any tomato caprese, greek salad, bean salads?

2- How was the food in the MDR? Which evenings do you feel the menu was not good, we like to dine in the Steakhouse four evenings and do have confirmations but not sure which nights is best.

3- Did you go to the Steakhouse if so how was it, how many nights do you recommend going there? What did you like best or least there?

4- How were the beds I hope not sagging mattresses as the ship is already 3 years old.

5- Was there a live band playing to the wee hours int he morning and if so where are they located?

6- What did they offer to eat (excluding room service, pizza and ceasar salad/calzones) past 11pm?

7- Did you do walk off disembarkation or regular and what time were you off the ship, also, what deck were you on?

Thank you very much and so glad you had a great time and had positive things to say. :)

Okay! Answer to as many questions as I can. We took the Fun-In-The-Sun excursion with Victor Bodden. Tour was good. We really enjoyed the monkeys and the birds. It was just so sad to see the poor side of the island. What concerned me the most that there was a lot of trash in the yards and along the streets. Trash cans were overflowing, but we saw lots of men and women doing nothing about it.

I found the food on the buffet okay. There were different meat carvings offered and different salads. We ate at the steakhouse on the first night and in the dining room for 4 other nights. We preferred the dining room to the buffet. We enjoyed the casino and the Punchliner Comedy Club in the evenings, so we did not go to the music areas.

We were on the main deck (2) in a cove balcony. Loved the balcony.

My husband and I cruised the Dream in June on that same itinerary. We loved it! It was a wonderful cruise. We enjoyed it so much, two days after we returned home we booked the same cruise for May 25, 2013.

I want to do a Cove also but a bit concerned as most seem to be under the galley. Was your cabin situated like that and did you experience any noise? Thanks!

Sounds like everything was nicely planned out for transportation, sometimes putting out a few extra dollars makes it easier. I'm sure there was some periods of waiting, but if one goes with the flow, it can be done. Some people would complain if everything was not at their fingertips the minute they want it. This often causes negative reviews to unnecessarily be started.

As for Disney, the perfect time is just after Thanksgiving. All their Christmas shows and parades are running, so you get 2 things in one at that time. Park attendance is down, weather is usually good. And cruise prices are down slightly due to holiday onset and schools are in session.

Thanks Kcteach12! How was the steakhouse you said you went there would you go again?

Glad you enjoyed that balcony heard all good things about it my only issue with that be the dining room and especially the galley over me...I been on 48 cruises in my life and once been under the galley and once under the dining room...dining room we heard chairs being pushed around and carts rolling on the floors...the galley was even worse we heard carts and lots of plates breaking and noises we not even know what it was. Never ever again we do that. Also it happened to be the hottest room I ever was in ac was working maintence came three times during our cruise to check it must be the galley above us for some reason?

After hearing about all the trash you had to see (shame how people not do a thing about it but thats the environment I guess they choose to live or its just acceptable to them....honestly people should care but its a third world there I gather) I not sure if I want to take a tour there. I do want to see the scenerary only...I not want to see monkeys, iguanas and such I live in Florida been to monkey jungle few times and iguanas and birds not do a thing for us I have a parrot! Would you think there is enough scenery to drive around and look at for three hours? Did you find there were mosquitos there also? Was it a distance to get to Victor Boddens tour and I heard you have to walk up a steep hill my father in law has trouble at times walking so like to hear your opinion about this walk.

Glad to hear you also like punchliners we are looking forward to that too.

lyndamr, we liked the steakhouse the food was really good. Roatan is a beautiful island. We did go to the west side and they had a wonderful beach with restaurants. Had the best coconut shrimp while I was there. You do have a hill to walk over to get to the tour, but we took a taxi and it was only $2. They let us off , we checked in and left in their bus. They were able to let us off at the port when we came back. We did not have trouble with mosquitoes or any other insects. Have a great time!
