What's your greatest cruise moment or worst?

Greatest: mountain-climbing up the side of the ship because of all those RUDE people ahead of me who just didn't understand that I had a great need to be first on the ship. I mean, excuuuuse me? Me stand in line with the great unwashed?

Worst: Being dragged off the ship kicking and screaming by the incredibly brutal police who were called by the insensitive and clueless ship personnel just because I barricaded myself in my cabin and refused to leave at the end of the cruise. Didn't they understand that I just had to squeeze a couple more hours out of the experience??? Sheesh. And that ghastly life-boat drill....pleeeze. Spare me....as if I'd get in one of those little boats with all those people I don't know, all those bratty children whining and the old people in wheelchairs who just can't get out of the way fast enough when I want to get on the elevator. There's no airconditioning and the seats look very uncomfortable. I figure that if the captain is so incompetant that he lets the ship catch on fire or runs aground on some rocks or, heaven forbid, lets some storm get in our way, then he just needs to be fired and somebody with more sense needs to make arrangements to get the ship back to port with minimum inconvenience to me.

Most incomprehensible: The tacky people who kept taking my stuff off the pool lounge chair just because I hadn't been there for 6 hours. That was MY chair and it should have been available for my use whenever I wanted it. You people can just sit on the deck...hmmmmphhhh! And imagine, telling ME that I can't smoke wherever I want to and can't save 16 seats in the front row of the showroom just in case some of my friends want to attend. The nerve...the very nerve of some people. Why, the ship's personnel actually confiscated the 32 bottles of wine, my iron and the portable firepit I brought to use on the balcony. Don't I have any rights??? And the food...if you can CALL it that...I specifically requested my own chef to prepare my chateaubriand at table-side and they just laughed. The food was so bad that I only gained 10 pounds that week.....I actually had to FORCE myself to eat 12 times a day.

I was on the Horizon in Bermuda in 1991. We were in town where the ferry pier. My dad dropped his camera. We sat down while he worked on it and I happened to notice a baby carriage moving quite rapidly with no one with it. There were no railings, and a 6 or 7 foot drop off. I ran for it and grabbed it just before it went in the ocean. There was a 6 or so month old baby sleeping in it. The parents were on the other end of the pier taking pictures. Many people saw me running for it and came over to where I was. The parents arrived and grabbed the stroller and took off arguing about who let it happen. I saw them many times after on the ship and they never once said thank you.

To me the best cruise ever was when I was on the Ectasy back in 1984 as I was standing watching everybody come aboard in Miami I noticed this beautiful woman walking on board. I commented to my female cruise mate that there was the woman I was going to marry. On sun my beautiful wife and I will celebrate our 10th wedding Anniversary on the Miracle.:)

Hard to pick a best moment. There have been a lot of really great ones though.

One of the best was on my first Carnival cruise. It was 2 weeks after 9/11, the flight to LA had been a nightmare of security, long lines and apprehension. Security was so tight it took about 3 hours to get boarded. We were tired, thirsty and wondering if we had made the right decision to come on this trip. As we walked up the final ramp and on to the ship I could feel all the tension slip away as it was replaced by the excitement of finally beginning the vacation. There were several crew members greeting us with a truly sincere "Welome Aboard" and appologies for the delay in boarding. We walked into atrium of the Elation, looked up and said "Wow".

That was a great moment!! I will never forget that feeling.

The worst was when both me and my son were sick when we docked in Cabo........I had a migraine, and he just felt lousy. But there was just no way I was going to stay on the ship. The walk to the beach felt like it took forever. Fortunately, we both felt better that afternoon. But, you should see the pictures we took; definitely not our best! LOL:)

The best was our first cruise, on the Jubilee. Something about your first cruise, not knowing what to expect (there was no cruise critic back then!) and just having a great time. Those were the days when free champagne flowed during sail away, the deck party even had a roasted pig, the midnight buffet didn't run out of food, and the room stewards had time to really take care of you----they always hung out in the hallway, waiting for somebody to leave their cabin--even for 10 minutes--so they could straighten up. They even folded clothes left on chairs!

Last summer I took my 2 sister-in-laws and a friend on there first cruise. As we were entering the elevator the friend turn to me and said are we going to the libido deck? A couple in the elevator with us look at each other and the husband said lets go to that deck. We all had a good laugh and still say the libido deck instead of the lido deck.

Last year I was escorting a group on Majesty of the Seas and arrived at the designated room to make sure it was ready for our meeting. Unfortunately, it was still occupied by a few stragglers from a wedding reception earlier in the morning. There was cake everywhere and champagne glasses and a totally smashed bride.

I had 15 minutes before the meeting. While the onboard rep for RCI started cleaning up the mess, I had to talk the bride down from where she was splayed out on a table (no groom or bridesmaids in sight) and convince her the wedding was over and that everyone was gone except for her. She promptly burst into tears and started babbling at me.

I had to support her - physically and emotionally - all the way back to her cabin. Last time I looked back, she was passed out against her door. Guess she did not have a key!

There have been many "best times" and one time that I would say wasn't...It was on our Inspiration cruise last january(2004) We were cruising with a big group and he stayed back with some of them at the hotel and I went with some of the them on the first taxi's to the pier. well everybody was arriving from our group but him:confused: I wanted to get on that ship:mad: When he finally got there we were one of the last in our group to get in line and that is when I realized I checked my ID with the porters in my luggage:eek: So I guess I ended up making the wait longer :o We ended up having one of the BEST times though and just don't mention the taxi/ID incident.

got engaged 1.5 yrs ago on the paradise.

AWWW! I wish, haha! That would be the absolute ultimate to get engaged on a cruise! I don't think anything could top that!!! Congrats to you!

Hrm. My best moment was on the Conquest two years ago when my boyfriend and I saw these 6 guys who looked to be in their 30's. I had chatted with some that had said they were 6 single guys going on the cruise ready to party and my boyfriend made me ask if it was them. Lo and behold it was and we had a BLAST with them the entire week -we still keep in touch with a couple of them!

Worst? Anytime I have to get off the ship!

First Best

First sailing the Paradise - we came back with an extra special souvenier - I became pregnant with our daughter. I told my husband the morning we docked in Grand Cayman. I just knew. Came home and had the official test - and now we have a wonderful 4 1/2 year old.

Second Best

When we sailed the Paradise again and took our daughter ~ she was just turning three. She loved the entire experience.

Taking her again this November to celebrate her 5th birthday on the Fascination. She truly has no clue about her conception on the Paradise - but I think this is why she feels a special connection with cruising and the ocean.

Worst

Having to send my mother home from Belize on the second Paradise sailing with kidney stones.

Best is any cruise ship I am on but one trip in particular...

Best:

Took husband's parents on Paradise for their 50th wedding anniversary. It was a surprise and they had never cruised before. All of their children, grandchildren and son's and daughters-in-law all attended.

Worst:

Same trip! I was in the process of making them a scrapbook on their 50 years together. When we docked in Ensenada, Mexico, we were standing by the railing watching them tie off the ship when my beloved digital camera with over 100 pictures on it fell out of my purse, through the railing, hit the tie off rope on the way down and shattered into a million pieces before coming to rest for eternity at the botton of Ensenada Bay! I spent the day drinking blue margarhitas but tried not to let it ruin the entire trip.
