Obviously this plan isn't a value for everyone, or for some port intensive itineraries. The nice thing is you don't have to buy it if you don't want it.

We have taken are last Carnival cruise doing spring break because of this.

For us in daytime 2 drinks maybe 3, dinner 1-2 and at night 2-3 that makes it lets say 8 drinks a day, so figure $8.95 a drink (those are the ones we prefer) equals $71.60 plus tip a day for each of us so this plan sure is a savings for us and we prefer to prepay this prior to our cruise also.

I like this plan please give it to all its ships.

I second this, sure there will be some who will try to abuse the system and try to drink their "monies worth". But if someone is getting out of control or are overly intoxicated they are usually escorted to their cabin. I wouldn't be supprised if Carnival has a system in place that flags and prohibits problem people from being able to purchase alcohol.

Thanks Don! I thought I saw discussion yesterday that frozen drinks would not be allowed.

This changes things a bit.... Might be worthwhile as I like bottled water, an occasional soda, and frozen margaritas. I'd have to sit down and see if it were financially viable as I really don't drink that much. I'd hate to try and drink just to break even (never would do 15 drinks - I'd be on the floor/deck!)

At first, I thought, "no way, we would never drink that much." And then I starting thinking about it. Over the course of a day, we could easily have six drinks. Have two or three during the afternoon while laying out, have another before dinner, a couple of glasses of wine at dinner and maybe a drink before bed. And my husband is a beer drinker and I could see him drinking several of those too. He's a big soda drinker, too and this would elminante the need for a soda card. If I spaced them out throughout the day, I wouldn't be drunk... maybe tipsy by bedtime, but no way drunk.

Knowing exactly how much my sign and sail card would be at the end of the week would make it worth it for us.

I am with you -- on sea days

However, port days would be a different story -- you would have to drink an awfully lot once you got back on the ship, which might be 5 or 6 pm.

I wish you could purchase it by the day.

Me, too. I doubt I will drink six drinks every. single. day... but my husband drinks like a fish and I'm sure he will pick up my slack.

He is a cancer survivor and his mouth doesn't make silvia anymore, so he literally drinks all the time. lol.

I really like the idea of paying upfront and having less to worry about. I believe all this discussion about people drinking too much will prove to be less of an issue than expected. I've never seen a drunk not order a drink because of money. You are right, I will probably drink more, worry less, and maybe even have a better time. Oh, I guess that is what I wanted anyway!

I didn't even think about tips? Do they also include tips to that or is it included in the $45 pp per day price tag?

We are cruising next year and a friend of mine who is a TA mentioned this to me briefly last night. She said that if one person in your cabin chose to purchase it than all other adults had to as well to prevent "sharing". While I do understand the sharing part it just seems unfair to be forced to purchase it if you are not normally a big drinker. I may have a few each day depending on the mood but I doubt if it would be worth it to me. Im just saying.

It also brings to memory the year Universal/IOA started their "meal plan" and once purchased you could eat "all you can eat" throughout the day for that one price. At the time we thought perhaps that we could save money for our family of four and cut down cost since we would be there from open to close....WRONG

I will never forget how we tried to "eat" just for the sake of getting our monies worth...:eek:We were sick by the end of the day! Lesson learned!

wonder how many will "drink" extra for that very reason.

I think this program is good. But I wish they had it where you can pick days. Cause sea days this would be great but port days, it may be a waste. I was sitting here thinking bout it. There was times on my past cruises where I wanted a drink n passed cause I was on a budget. This program I would be more acceptable to order that drink that in the past I would pass on. Just depends on what everyone's budget is.

That number is being thrown around as the amount of drinks needed to make the program worthwhile.

No 15 is the limit on the program. To break even, you would have to get at least 4 or 5 drinks per day.

Easy peazy .... Mimosa / Bloody Mary at breakfast, a mojito or two in the afternoon, a glass of wine or two at dinner, and a few drinks at the casino / shows.

It is all about averages. I would imagine the port days are thrown into the mix when determining the price and I am sure that the average of all port days are used when they came up with the formula (typically 3 days)....even though they are testing it on a port intensive intinerary.

It appears that bottled water isn't included.

But if soda and frozen drinks are then maybe it could be worth it.

The reference to the 15 drinks is that is the most that is allowable on the program from some reports. Don't have a link, so that is why I say "some reports".

I guess the thing is to sit down and figure out what one might drink port/non-port days and figure out if it is less than paying drink-by-drink.
