Why the lanyards?

We´ve used the Princess free casino lanyards on previous cruises, but I´ve just bought a couple of ¨proper¨ cruising ones for cruise next year from .cruisegiftstore.co.uk

If I have to use the card not on a lanyard for any reason eg nipping back to the cabin in an evening outfit, I tend to just pop it in my bra...gone are the days when knickers had a pocket! ..TMI

Maybe not everyone who has top tier status wears the lanyard to show off their card, but it is funny to notice those who are constantly adjusting the way their card is hanging around their neck, like they are making sure their status is noticeable LOL. Especially if they are wearing the type with the plastic holder for the card rather than the type where the card has a hole punched in it.

I like Dan have often been suspicious that some folks, but not all, use a lanyard to show off their level in the line's loyalty program. Particularly those who find it necessary to make sure that the front face of the card is showing when they are speaking with you at a meet and greet.:) Personally I keep mine in a blue leather card case that I got on Celebrity a few years ago, it works perfectly for me....but to each his own.

Australians love lanyards as most of our cruises are warm enough all year to use the pools and dress down. The British on the other hand tend to look down on the use of lanyards and wearing your card as a fashion accessory

I have several lanyards (gotten as gifts) but have never used them. I think I gave a couple away to our school nurse who is required to wear one on campus.

I always carry a small cross body purse onboard, it has a pocket the perfect size for my card. I'm never rummaging around for the card, it's just there where I put it. Upon entering the cabin, we have a small travel tray where the cards go, every time, kind of like the hook we hang our house keys on the moment we return home.

If I used a lanyard, I'd have to be like Galveston Cruiser, I'd tuck it into my clothing so it couldn't be seen. Personally I think it's cheesy looking...kind of reminds me of when I was very young at school and my mother would pin notes to my clothing so I wouldn't lose them.

I don't happen to care, nor would I notice, other peoples cruise status due to the color of their cruise card. I hope service personnel don't either, we all deserve good service.

Lanyard works for me for several reasons, but not to flaunt my pass as status symbol (since I have very little status to flaunt).

My wife carries a small purse, so she does not use one, so it's very easy to tell our sea passes apart at a glance.

It is easily hung in the room.

I spend a lot of time by the pool, and it works better there. I know some swim suites have special pockets and such, but I don't want to be digging for my card every time I want a drink.

If you get a lanyard where the pass end easily unclips it is very convenient to snap it free and hand to anyone who needs it. With one like that there's no need to stand on your head to get into your cabin. It's easier than retrieving it from a packet or purse. I would not recommend a lanyard that is difficult to unclip the pass.

I never wear it with better clothes/evening attire. It fits very nicely in my pocket with lanyard attached, and is actually much easier to retrieve when needed, even when staying seated. With loose fitting tropical shirts it easily tucks inside the shirt. No tacky factor.

On our Hawaiian cruise a few years ago, I had a couple say they just couldn't wear lanyards because they just seemed a bit tacky to them. This is the same couple who, every time I saw them, were wearing matching tropical print outfits (loud and gaudy) that were very obviously home made just for the trip. Go Figger...

Sounds like lanyards are a practical solution ... Any particular style that works better than others?

I am curious, do people use the lanyards for convenience sake, or is there an advantage to showing your loyalty program status?...

I think lanyards look dorky and have never use one and never will. Instead, I use a tiny across body shoulder bag that is just big enough to hold my card, some tissues and lipstick. On deck or at the pool that's all one needs.

LOL I need less than that, hence the dorky lanyard!

Besides, not a fan of the mashed boobs look that one gets from the cross-body bags.

To each her own. The mini-bags are tiny - just about the size of a 5x6 flat envelope. More stylish in my never humble opinion and I don't look like I"m searching for a convention registration desk.

Hehe the only time I wear lanyards is at comic cons, never gonna wear one for a cruise! And where we live EVERYONE has them for work, it's nice to go places without people having their I'd hanging off their neck. Except conventions, and that's because we have too wear them lol.

You mean THAT'S the reason I couldn't find that convention desk on our cruise? Oh wait I haven't been on a cruise yet but I couldn't find that convention desk at any of the Disney theme Parks or Seaworld either. I now know I looked so "out of fashion" wearing my lanyard and so did hubby. Call the fashion police, I'll plead guilty.

(I couldn't care less what others think about my sense of fashion as I am not out to impress anyone)

Oh and let me add this. I don't care nor judge what others wear either. I don't judge unless it's obscene. I'm of a "if it makes you happy and doesn't hurt anyone else, "have at it", person.

Let me ask this. Do you REALLY CARE if other people wear a lanyard?
