i have been reading all the threads about ships that were dealing with the hurricane. I have never sailed Carnival CL and after reading most of the posts I was sure I never would..the people were rude and ignorant. BUT...i started reading this thread and it is soo refreshing to read...now i am rethinking my decision...maybe someday...have fun :D

Neptune - Thank you so much for posting this message about the Carnival Miracle! My 16 year old daughter is on this ship and I've been worried sick! I only talked to her for a minute on Monday morning and have been waiting til the ship docks in Florida to talk to her again. This post made me feel MUCH better! Thanks again!

Just heard on our local Washington DC news that a bouy located 50 miles off the coast from Ocean City, MD is reporting 23 foot waves with wind gusts of 60 miles per hour. You must be rocking and rolling.

A bouy in NY Harbor yesterday (10/29/12) reported a wave of 32.5 feet. . I was concerned about the rough seas & storm. Anyway I am glad the worst is over now and OP is having a good time.

Goddess,

Glad you're having a good time. We sail in 2 weeks. Hoping for calm seas. I've already "rocked" home twice. We took a van tour in Grand Turk and were not at all sorry for it. The ride is bumpy, but you get to see the whole island and it's uniqueness. Wild ponies, burros, dogs, chickens. Looks like a nice place to think about retiring to. You can buy a home there for a reasonable price. Of course, gas and provisions would cost more there than at home. If you take a van tour, there is still time to enjoy the area near the ship.

BooBoo,

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. I've been on 6 Carnival cruises and haven't seen anything like I've occasionally read. Of course, we time our cruises to not be on with tons of kids or college kids. We've witnessed elevator etiquette more often than not.

Happy and safe sailing to all.

I'm enjoying reading your updates. I see ya'll pulling into port now on the Port Canaveral webcam. I wish you smooth sailing for the rest of your trip :)

The ship is sitting in port now. Looks like a postcard picture.

About now, you must feel like you're sitting on a mirror:)

Hi Everyone,

We got to meet Don and Colleen at lunch. They were seated to our table and we got to talking and found out we were both cruise critic posters. Had a nice chat.

NeptuneGoddess - Please send a shout out to Don & Colleen from Suze, Kenny, Ron & Connie. Ron & Connie boarded the Pride Sunday, and were to meet up with Don & Colleen at Port Canaveral. Unfortunately, they canceled the Pride cruise so Ron & Connie had to go home. Best wishes to all of you and hope you're having a nice time in spite of the weather. I haven't read the entire thread - just posted as soon as I realized you met our friends!

Suze!

Greetings again from The Miracle.

Feel free to shoot anymore questions or give me any suggestions. Hubby and I have never been to Port Canaveral, Bahamas or Grand Turk.

I have departed at Port Canaveral, but exactly to hang out. I like Cocoa Beach pier.

At Nassau I have taken the little ferry to Paradise Island to walk around, but it's a lot of walking.

2 weeks ago in Nassau, we shared a $15 cab ride to the Sheraton Hotel and for $30 each we could use their beach and beach amenities including towels & pools & out door showers. I prefer a beach with a lifeguard and the only solicitors were folks who would take you out for snorkeling trips. The Sheraton lobby is nice, so nicer clothes are in order. It might seem expensive, but it is a short trip and I am not that into spending the day shopping or spending more on a more exotic beach excursion. Also it was not crowded at all, if we had more time we would have had lunch there.

We did shop in the new improved straw market, it's pleasant enough. The cruise terminal is fun also. We bought rum near the straw market.

Grand Turk is beach beach beach, great stop. We walk away from Tequilaville and head to Jacks Shack on the beach for free wifi and the Grand Turk hard ginger beer is delicious. We had lunch there, my husband had a jerk chicken and a I had fried fish.

I like Tequillaville, but we ran out of time to hang out there also, the dj is entertaining, but sometimes a little too obnoxious.

Greetings all!

It is, indeed, a beautiful day here in Florida or, as Ruthlessboss said, a picture postcard. We had a nice little jaunt over to merrit island mall to get hubby another dress shirt (he forgot to pack one). We opted to not do any shore excursions here, just enjoying the weather and our balcony...even though its a tad windy. We just now were out on our balcony while we pulled away from the Port. It's hard to believe this cruise started off in a hurricane.

Tonight is the Halloween Party and they have the ship decorated to the nines. It should be a lot of fun seeing people in costumes. They have some drink specials too. Witches Brew (bacardi rum, ginger ale with a floater of raspberry liqueur), Green Goblin ( Skyy Vodka, malibu Rum, pineapple juice and midori melon liqueur), Vampire's Kiss ( Patron Silver Tequila, cranberry juice and grenadine) and a non-alcohol called Ghostly Spirits (Strawberry and raspberry purees blended with cranberry juice and grenadine). Those drinks cost 8.75 ..the non-alcohol drink is 4.75. If you actually say the name of the drink to order it, you get a dollar off. The Halloween meet n greet is at 9:30 pm...costume contest is at 10:00 pm....Halloween dance contest is at 11:30 pm and then a Halloween Dance party from 11:30 pm until whenever the nightclub closes, which I believe is 4am. The casino is also getting into the Halloween spirit by having what they call "Witching Hours". Between 10:13 pm and 12:13 pm there will be special bonus prizes you can win through slots and table games.

Booboojoy - I certainly hope you do give carnival a try. Thank you for the compliment about this thread. Remember that when people are upset they can come off as brash and harsh. All the carnival people I have met have been wonderful.

Dawn - If this thread can do just one thing...I am soooo glad that it eased the worry of a parent. I am also a mother and I could only imagine what you were going through. It makes me smile that I was an instrument in helping ease some of your worry. I am sure, by now, you have re-connected with your daughter and she has had some fun stories to tell.

Jillpra - Cory has been fun...he has been sure that he keeps the "Cory bump" alive.

Littlesnit and Ipanema - Thank you soooooo much for the port suggestions. I have jotted down some of the details.

Bigdad and Janice - Thank you :)

Basketsuze - Its a shame they weren't able to meet up with Don and Colleen. If I see them again, I will certainly give them a hearty hello from you all. :)

I am signing off for now...Hubby is getting grouchy because he wants to go eat. :)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Stay tuned....

Hope all goes well and you enjoy your vacation :). Least it will give you stories to tell people when you get back :D

Hope all is well. We are cruising 11/6/12 on the Miracle. We can only hope it makes it to Manhattan on the 6th. Feel badly for all New Yorkers. Any news about return to Mnahattan. Brooklyn dock closed until at least Saturday 11/3/12. Really got pounded on that side.

Sounds great. I didn't catch you in time or I probably would have recommended a quick run to Cocoa Beach while in port. Glad you are having a good time. Hopefully it will get a little warmer from here on out.

How bout some pics or some more actual details?

In 5 pages its just short blah blah each time.

Try the "other" review, hundreds of replies and they are only on day 3 of the cruise. Pics are huge, mostly of family though.

I thank our poster for taking time out to report to us, using her time while ON the ship.

How about waiting until the cruise is over for pics? It would take forever for them to load!!!

Enjoying your live review NeptunesGoddess my brother was kicked off the ship for you to get on :p he is still stuck in a hotel in manhattan with no power  havent heard from him since yesterday morning. He is hoping to get a flight home soon.

Good Morning...and it certainly is for us here on the Miracle. We just had breakfast out on our balcony in warm breezes amidst calm seas.

Last night during the Halloween celebration the Casino had a promotion called "Witching Hours" between 10:13 pm and 12:13 am. If you had special hands dealt to you or had special combinations you hit on slots, you either got to take a spin on a wheel or pull an envelope off of the cape of one of the employees that was walking around. Prizes were a T-shirt, a free cocktail, 25 dollars cash, 50 dollars cash and 2 free dinners at Nick and Nora's Steakhouse. Hubby and I were playing some blackjack and we had a dollar up on the extra bet which was the "Fun Pair" and I had a pair of suited aces drawn to me and I suddenly found myself a winner. I got to pull any envelope off the cape that I wanted. As luck would have it, I got the 2 free dinners at Nick and Nora's. It works out well because we already had reservations for tomorrow night. So our celebratory anniversary dinner is now on Carnival's dime. :)

We are just now pulling into Nassau, Bahamas as I write this and it is a gorgeous day. Greg (my husband) is out on the balcony taking some video of Atlantis.

Janice - It was indeed fun being on the ship for halloween. Some people got really clever with their costumes and a lot of people dressed up. We saw several pirates, little red riding hoods with their big bad wolves. "Skipper" and "Maryanne" and a Medusa, to name a few.

mju - No word on our return but I had no idea that the port was still closed. That might make things interesting if it doesn't open before the 6th.

#55worktoplay - thank you :)

Rasvar - No problem on the cocoa beach suggestion being late. We already had discussed going there, but decided to pass on it this trip. It has defintely got warmer and we can even enjoy sitting out on our balcony at night now.

Hockyluver - So sorry to hear about your brother being stranded in NYC. That must be quite an ordeal. It seems like his whole vacation ended up that way. I really do feel bad for all those that got their vacations cut short and now are dealing with the aftermath. My heart also goes out to those families that have been hit hard with this hurricane and have suffered the loss of family. Mother Nature can certainly be cruel. I hope your brother is back home soon. I am sure he can't wait to sleep in his own bed.

F27TW - I am sorry that you don't care for my short "blah blahs", but as Ruthlessboss and Hockeyluver pointed out, I am on a cruise and wanting to enjoy it as much as possible. That being said, if you have a specific question, I would love to go into detail, but to just go on and on into detail about things I don't even know if people would be interested in would probably be a waste of my time and yours. The internet connection isn't cheap and as far as pictures are concerned, We posted the one video and it took quite awhile to upload. I believe hockeyluver touched on how time consuming it would be to post up pictures and, while I can be offline while I write these entries, we cannot be offline while uploading pictures to a site that will host them so I can post them all to you. All I can say is, if you aren't enjoying my Live reporting, you certainly do not have to click on the thread.

My intention of this thread, at the beginning of the cruise, was so many of you could "follow" us into the Storm. I was wanting to be your connection if you had friends and family aboard and it looks as though that was accomplished. I will continue to post entries if you are still interested.

Ok, I am off to get ready so that we can enjoy this port! Have a great day everyone!

Stay tuned....

Thanks so much for the updates, NeptunesGoddess. We're sailing on the Miracle in January, so it's great to get a feel for the ship beforehand.

If you have the time, could you please let me know if there are still calzones at the 24 hour pizza? I've been reading some conflicting reports and for my growing-a-foot-a-week 14 year old son, this is of particular importance. :D Thanks in advance!

NeptunesGoddess, I'm enjoying your posts. I tried to do a "Live from" thread on one of our cruises and it just didn't work well. As far as returning next week, they reopened NY Harbor to fuel barges today and Norwegian Gem and Caribbean Princess are expected to dock in Manhattan tomorrow. You should be fine. Thanks for the updates!
