How many days away?

Recommended Posts

We fly out of Auckland to Sydney to catch a cruise around NZ finishing back at Sydney then flying back to Auckland

When we leave Auckland the Immigration Dept want to know how many days we are out of NZ

Do we put the total cruise time of 15 days or the day the cruise arrives in NZ which would only be 5 days?

I am guessing it would be the total time we are away?

you would have to put down the total number of days out of the country which is 15 days

you have a couple of different answers why not ring immigration and ask them

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/generalinformation/contactus/

Easier to sort it out when we leave

The Immigration man will know otherwise we will get 20 different answers if we ring :)

I just thought lots of others would have done the same thing as us

we did a 33 night cruise recently going around AUS to Indonesia back to Aus and across to NZ and back home to Sydney....we left Aus twice and we filled in our immigration card and put down 33 nights and no one said anything different

I wouldn't be surprised if people have done both, and it probably wouldn't always get picked up. But yes, asking on the spot will ensure you'll give the answer he prefers at that time. :-)

They might not let us back into NZ if we get it wrong and have to spend the rest of our lives cruising :)

Its not that critical!

Just put 15 days you wont get into any trouble if you return and leave again during the 15 days lol

Just phoned

Lady said there is no definite answer

Ask at the airport to get it correct but it probably doesn't matter

fancy that, they work there and they dont know....if it was me i would put down 15 days as it would cover you....if anyone said anything just say you rang up NZ immigration and they couldnt give you a definite answer as they didnt know

Give yourself a buffer and put down 25 days. When we leave Australia for overseas we always put in a few extra days on our departing passenger card. It is no big deal. You have a passport you have to get back in.

And I bet if I rang again I would get a different answer :)

I am not particularly worried but with Big brother watching everything we do I don't want some over zealous immigration officer causing us grief
