Wonderful Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the assistance! A few questions...

1) Do the canal tours (specifically Netto-badene) run in the evening? What time do they start in the morning?

2) Can anyone recommend public transportation to get from the train station to Christianan area?

3) Can anyone recommend public transportation to get from train station to the Carslberg Brewery?

Thanks so much!!

We arrived in Copenhagen two days ago after a 13 night Trans Atlantic. I think we brought the beautiful, sunny weather with us from Barcelona.

A Happy Belated Birthday to DV. Hope you'll be celebrating the entire month of May. Thanks for the review and pictures of the new port facility. I was expecting to see you next to the Queen!

Copenhagen is a bit challenging with all the construction in many areas. I visited the City Hall yesterday and I highly recommend it. A magnificent building and the library on second floor is beautiful. We wen to Bilka and purchased lots of goodies. Prices are not as bad as I expected.

Love you city, Danish Viking. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Danish Viking,

We are arriving on the Celebrity Eclipse on June 9, 2014 @ 3pm. We would like to do a canal tour ( with Netto-badene) at Nyhavn first thing and then go to Tivoli Gardens for the evening. We will be docked at oceankaj. What is the best way to get to Nyhavn and then to Tivoli Gardens and back to ship later?

We are planning to do an organized tour the next day but may skip if we can't fit the canal tour in on the first day as we really want to do this. Thank you for all your help on this board.

Cathy

How do I convert your maps to English?

Bus 26 will get you to both Nyhavn (from the Kongens Nytorv bus stop) and Tivoli (from the rådhuspladsen/town hall square bus stop)

You can easily walk along Strøget pedestrian street from Nyhavn to Tivoli, just follow it from one end to the other. :D

I´m not sure about the last question, is it the google maps route that I make? because they are in english on my screen.

We arrived in Copenhagen yesterday. Danish Viking, do you know if Bus 26 is going to be running on Sat.? I asked the bus driver yesterday and he thought it was.

Yes but only between Langelinie and Ålholm plads, Nordhavnen with the new oceankaj cruise terminal is not served in weekends and public holidays.

Danish Viking-- we leave the US tomorrow for. May 19th NCL sailing. We keep seeing references to the new terminal. Will it sill leave from Freeport?

We will also be on RCI Legend of the Seas on May 31st. Will it still be at Freeport?

Thanks so much!!

Ruth

Your ship will be at Oceankaj together with MSC Poesia and Costa Luminosa but its a Saturday so you have to rely on cruise shuttles and taxis because bus 26 is not serving Nordhavn in the weekend.

Its a busy day in Copenhagen because also Mein Shiff 2 will berth at Levantkaj not far from Oceankaj and Celebrity Constellation will be at Langeliniekaj.

Hi Danish Viking and thank you so much for your help,

We are arriving Wednesday May 28, Brilliance of the Seas but we can't get definite word on which port. Frihavnen, Stadsgarden and Oceankaj have all been mentioned by either RCI or the port of Stockholm. Are you able to find out which port we will actually be docking at?

From the port we would like to go to the Stroget to walk around, Rosenborg castle, Torvehallerne for lunch and Nyhavn for a stroll and possibly a boat tour. Then back to the ship.

We have from about 9am to 3pm.

Is this possible or too much? What order would you suggest? What would be the best method of transport between sites? We don't mind some walking. If you had to choose only one, would it be Rosenborg or the boat tour?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kathryn

Stadsgarden must be in Stockholm :D

But your ship will be docked at Oceankaj from 07:00 to 16:00, and thats in Copenhagen :D

The first canal boats starts 09:30 from Nyhavn so if you take the bus at 08:53 from UNICEF you will be at Kongens Nytorv next to Nyhavn at 09:16.

Then you will be at Rosenborg around 11:00

After this you can go to Torvehallerne for a lunch

Then walk along Købmagergade to Strøget and Storkespringvandet, here you turn left along strøget and end back up at Kongens Nytorv.

Then you can take bus 26 towards Færgehavn Nord, UNICEF at 14:20 or 14:40, its important that you don´t take the :00, :10, :30 and :50 departures because they will take you to Langelinie or the wrong Færghehavn Nord (the one without UNICEF).

You can use the bus to Færgehavn Nord (14:00 departure) but you will have to walk 1,1 km from the Balticavej bus stop.

Its bulletproof :D

The bus cost 24 kroner each way.

Our family plan to take a cruise to Norway next June 2015.

Because of final exams for our son, we can't leave any early than one day before

the cruise. If we take the non stop flight from sfo to cph we arrive the day of our

cruise at 1:15pm. Our ship leaves at 5pm.

My question is, can we make the cruise without making a mad dash from the airport to the pier? We would need to clear customs, get luggage then get a a taxi.

What sort of comfort level would I be looking at trying to pull this off with a family of 4?

Thanks

HLP

SAS has very good reputation, it was actually the most punctual airline in Europe (or was it the world) here in the first 3 months of the year so I wouldn't worry about the flight.

And since its a direct flight lost or delayed luggage should be no problem either but I make no promises :D

I think that from you airplane lands and until you are at your taxi it should take no more than 30 minutes.

The pier for non Schengen flights is pier C and its located almost next to the luggage claim area (is it called that) so when you have cleared customs you will almost get to the luggage claim area strait away.

When you have collected your luggage you will exit via terminal 3 and you will find the taxis on your right hand.

Usually there will be a man/woman pointing you to the size of taxi that you need.

Only one last thing, if he takes the motorway into the city it will be more expensive than compared to Amager Strandvej or Amagerbrogade because the motorway is a 5 kilometer detour so that will costs you around 60-70 kroner more than by the normal road but the travel time is almost the same.

I have never flown to Copenhagen so I wasn't sure how smooth it would be.

Yes, it is SAS direct flight, thanks for catching that, I forgot to add detail.

So from landing to arrival at the pier should be about 2 hours if everything goes to schedule?.

We are taking the Norwegian star so I will have to check which terminal they leave from.

We plan to visit a few days on our return. Thank you for your help.

I'm clear about the beginning and end but need a little more clarification about the middle. Will the boat tour bring us back to Nyhavn and then we walk to Rosenborg ? How long is that walk?

Also, how long to walk from Oceankaj to the bus stop at UNICEF or is there a shuttle provided by the port?

Thanks again. We really appreciate this specific information.

Yes the canal tour ends at Nyhavn and it takes around 15 minutes to walk to Rosenborg.

Here is the location of the bus stop.

I took some pictures from the cruise terminal in the start of this month and the second last picture is taken from the bus stop.

We are family of 3 will arrive Copenhagen 10:50 am Friday May 23 for the Eurodam depart 4pm.

I read the thread that Bus 26 to UNICEF (the closest stop to walk to Oceankaj terminal C332. How long it will take ?

What is the best transportation to take and enough time to do the boarding.

Wed 10 am June 3 Eurodam will return the same terminal and we like to tour Copenhagen as the first time to visit, any recommendation to visit this city ?

Question need to help: For a departure flight 7:45am June 4 from Copenhagen to London.

What procedure/any problem have to gone through from the ship to get a taxi to airport ? We don't mind to carry out luggages to leave the ship at 4am.

We will be doing a self walking tour. However, we want to take a city bus from the cruise ship to City Hall to start our walk. Can we use euros for the city bus?

Yes only bus 26 takes euro as payment but not coins and you will probably get back in Danish kroner.

But remember that while bus 26 serves langeliniekaj all days the Oceankaj pier is only served Monday to Fridays.

This picture is taking from the parking lot next to the bus stop, terminal 2 is the one closest in the picture.

temporary_zps126f3c6c.jpg

Bus 26 departs from Østerport station from 11:28, 11:48, 12:28, 12:48 etc. and the trip takes 14 minutes.

The train trip from the airport to Østerport takes 26 minutes and to be on the save side with security, luggage claims, small delays and buying tickets etc I think that the 11:42 departrure to Nivå is realistic.

You will then be at Østerport 12:08 with enough time to buy supplies etc before the 12:28 departure.

Your train will arrive in track 1 or 2 and your bus will depart from where it says 26 Færgehavn Nord.

Notice that only the C and E departures goes to UNICEF Færgehavn Nord.

Sorry I missed that detail.

I´m figuring that the ship is staying overnight.

I´m guessing that with checked in luggage etc you will need to be at the airport 06:30 so you need to get a taxi at around 05:45 to be on the save side.

A trip with a car from Oceankaj to the airport will under normal circumstances takes 30 minutes.

What to see in Copenhagen?

A few thing I wanted to see if i was a tourist would be Glyptoteket, National Museum (Tivoli (in the evening) Amalienborg, Rosenborg, Canal tour the zoo and Blue Planet Aquarium.

There is also some arts museum but thats not my hometurf but the national museum of modern arts should be visited if that is the case.
