Cold...Cold...Cold!!!

Hi All - I am going to be the contrarian here. I sympathize with all who are uncomfortable in cold weather. That is how I feel in hot humid weather. I love winter and dred the summer. I love being chilly and bundling up; our fireplace glowing; snow the whole bit. So it does take all kinds.

Good point, Terry. I prefer the cold over hot/humid summer weather, too. The thing most bothersome to me about the cold is the old joints start to ache!

Sorry your electric company chose such a freezing night to go off line. Hope they get the system back up quickly.

I am sure your Boston Red Sox Avatar was what made me think you mIGHT be from Boston. :) Yes, I realize there are members of Red Sox Nation all over the country/world!!!!! :) But hopefully you understand my error.

No worries! I was born in Boston, grew up there and my grandparents lived there (on Church actually). We come up several times a year to see family and friends. And baseball of course!

After all these years, I often ask myself what is keeping me here. Surely, not the weather.

I ask the same thing. Truth be told, what keeps us here are our kids and grandkids. I wish they'd pick up and move to Virginia, NC, or SC!

Welcome to Florida! The forecast for Tampa this Thursday is sunny and 73 degrees. You should have good weather for your per-cruise visit. The Ryndam is a great ship.

Thank you! Now, that's my kind of temperature. IMO, 70 - 75 degrees is perfect.

Hi Shiela, The damp winter as well as the humid summer does bother by old bones also. That's why I love visiting Doug's family in Montana/Wyoming/South Dakota - the low humidity. My bones feel better there. We don't move there because his heart specialists are among the best in the Philadelphia area and he doesn't want to give them up.

See you sunday on board the Ryndam!

I think you'd be cured or liking cold weather if you lived in Calgary for one winter:D:p;). That said I don't like it when it gets over about 25C unless I have a/c I can get into.

When I picture New Brunswick, I think of the (usually) pretty summer weather we have when stop there on Maasdam. Doesn't sound quite so appealing now with these freezing temps so much of U.S. and Canada are now experiencing.

Stay warm everyone.

It is -35 with the wind chill here in New Brunswick this afternoon and it is suppose to get a few degrees cooler as the day goes on!!!!! A good day to stay inside.....

It's cold here but I was just listening to the satellite radio traffic and weather in the car. My channel is Baltimore/Washington/Atlanta. The forecast for Atlanta is a quarter inch of freezing rain. Anything but that. I know I'd rather be here with cold and a couple inches of snow and I think I'd rather even be in Calgary.

they're going south. Here in Ottawa the penguins have been spotted at the local bird feeders. I'm kidding of course but is reaaaaaalllly cold here. tonight we are going to hit a frigid -38C with the windchill. I haven't seen my neighbors in days. Cars are stopped on the side of highways.

I'm glad that some of you are escaping as our cruise doesn't leave until Feb 16th.

Stay warm everyone! :D

Sure glad I left Ottawa many years ago. Two winters was enough for me. I'm truly happy with the Wet West Coast. High of 5 celcius - not bad compared to the rest of Canada. :)

Hi all from Australia,

We work in metric, so I can only tell you we have had 45o heat, now down to around 32o, with humidity about 98o/o. Starting to envy you guys.

(Not really}

Hope all your nasty fires have come to an end. They were horrible to see on our nightly news. 32 with all that humidity would be too much for me.

Then you know things are really bad:D. It's -13c/8f and we had snow overnight and this morning. This is a nice day for us:p;). So far this winter I can't recall any -30c days although it's been close. I'm pretty ok if we don't (fingers crossed).

I woke up to 11°F/-11°C in Brooklyn this morning.

I wish we were flying to Ft. Lauderdale today rather than 2 weeks from now.

Me too Peter! I am 2 weeks behind you. (Good thing we're not leaving Brooklyn at the same time---who would be minding the store?):)

I'll (happily) trade locations with you!:) It is -32C with the wind chill factor this a.m. where I live!:((And I don't have a/c in our summer either when the temperature in my apartment reaches +30C)

Wow....that is unbelievably cold!! I can't even imagine what -32c would be like ........ It is so interesting reading about all the different weather conditions everyone is posting. I hope it warms up for you soon :)

I envy you people getting out of this cold.

It is so cold here that when the garbage men emptied my container - there was still a bag of garbage at the bottom - it is frozen stuck there:eek:

No sign of this frigid weather breaking until the weekend - for those cruising - enjoy the warm weather - for those of us stuck in the frozen wastelands - stay warm:D

One of the reasons we always plan a mid winter cruise to thaw out.

sapper, it is supposed to be +2C here next week with rain!!!

It was minus 38 here today with the wind chill factor:eek: sapper is not that far away and I believe it was at least - 31 for her:eek:

It's not warm here GN -= and the forecasts are not good for when it will be:eek: To top it off, my fur baby had surgery and has to be carried outside (not allowed any steps) so I get the freezing cold every morning - I prefer to wake up with a cup of coffee - not a blast of cold air:D

I can't do it this year - I have to be ready for the one in May:o went away the last two winters and they honestly weren't that bad (time heals all wounds) but this one is turning brutal - and no escape - except my planning:eek:

Sorry, I can't muster up much sympathy for you considering your cruise is 31 days;). I'll take one for the team and go on your behalf:D.

It's currently 7, should get to 1 or 2 overnight.

I love cold, went for an hourlong walk by the river and people thought I was crazy. To me people outside at 90-95 is more crazy. And I spent a lot of my life living in Texas!

The last 2 winters were kind to us here in Ottawa. All the bad weather went south of us. This year has been classic Canada. The cold was supposed to break after today and rise to a balmy -17C, not so much now. Tomorrow we will be in for another -28C and -40C with the windchill.

I have given up and jacked the thermometer up to 20C at home, normally we are happy at 18C. That says something!

Today I watched a sweet elderly couple have one of their rear wheels freeze solid and drag while they were driving. I am quite sure that tire has no tread left on one side. Sadly they didn't mention an upcoming cruise to soften that blow.

People who couldn't start their car at 8am were still waiting for a tow truck at 5pm. A tow truck driver I spoke to had a dazed look worse than an MDR server.....

They took the cladding and insulation off our building at work a few weeks ago for renovations.....I can see daylight between the floor and the bottom of the wall in front of my desk in a few places. Co-workers are wearing mitts and sweaters and complaining of kidney pains. I stopped mentioning my vacation plans about that time....

I can't imagine what tomorrow will bring, probably more, a lot more of today.

How many days until Feb 16th?????? :)

Oh my, Jacqui...that's awful. You're so good to carry your furbaby outside. They don't like the cold. We have to chase Jessie around the house to get her to go out...and it's warmer here. 5 degrees above zero.

I don't have any choice:eek: if she moves to suddenly she could break her leg until this surgery heals completely - I will honestly say I am not having fun - but you gotta do what you gotta do:)
