OY! But at least you got to ride in a helicopter! I didn't see that listed on the excursions page!

Glad to hear you're on the mend! So when is your next cruise :D

Not only a ride on one, but an interesting way of getting in caught on cam for all of us to see....;)

Came back Friday from Splendor! We had a wonderful time, Splendor is great only drawback us very hard to manuever, we were up and down steps a zillion times LOL!! Took us the whole wk to finally know where we were going. Best crew ever they beat every other crew we ever had. Friendly and smiling and greeting us all the time we had no problems. Food was amazing. MDR food was always very good and super hot don't know why people have been complaining. We had ATD and never had to wait, loved our waiter Sudi and requested him and got him everynight, he was amazing!! Lido food was good as well, brunch was good but go early it starts at 9 and gets very busy. Our room stward, Margarita was amazing as well. Had fresh ice all the time always called us by name as did Sudi. Ship is beautiful I didn't find it gaudy at all. When you sit in main atrium at night all the lights in the ceiling change all different colors, very pretty. Ports were great, only downfall here was night flooding rain in San Juan, water was coming under doors in Senor Frogs, we had to take our shoes off to walk back to ship, water up to our knees! LOL!! It was great. Shows were ok, best was Vroom and Legends which one of our friends was in, he was Neil Diamond and was great!! Waiting for show last bingo game was being played jackpot for 1,000, so I told my hubby to get me a card and I won!! It was awesome ending to fabulous cruise, wiped out our onboard bill and got the extra in cash yippee!! One other note, they would not give us a day pass for thassotherapy pool. Said we had to get a week pass was not spending almost 300.00 on that. That was the only thing that disappointed. Your gonna love this ship, can't wait to get back on!!

Thanks! So glad to hear about the food and the service. And that you won the Bingo - so exciting! That had to make you smile all the way to Guest Services ;)

I've heard that the ship takes some getting used to. I got an app for my iPod called Deck Director. Kind of works like Google maps but for the ship and you download the one for your ship so you don't get connect charges.

Was sorry to hear about the T-pool passes for the day. I was hoping to do that, but I'm not paying for the week pass. I just wanted to try it.

Thanks again for your helpful comments! Glad you had a great cruise!

Cheryl, congrats on the bingo win! We did not have luck at roulette or the slots, but had fun playing. Didn't break the bank! Were you in the casino? Did you see the young man at the roulette table who was losing $1000'es of $ every night? He had a wife and 2 young daughters with him. Can't remember what his name was...very sad. We were back on the ship by the time it started raining in SJ. We were at dinner and looked out and saw water dripping by a light (it was dark) and someone mentioned the skies opened up. One more tip for the chocoholics: there are 2 buffet areas. Mid ship and farther aft. At lunch at the aft dessert station, port side, there is always chocolate sauce near the pies/cakes. I get a salad bowl, fill with soft serve ice cream, then go back and top it off with sauce! :D;) One other silly thing I noticed is that they did not have signs to the gangway, and boy, did we get a tour of all the decks and a good work out trying to find it! And not to open a can of worms, but there were little ones in the pool that could not possibly have been potty trained and quite obviously had swimmer's diapers on. We came up at one point and saw a woman and a mom and dad with a little one all having an arguement with a security guard and I can only imagine it was about this issue as the little one had been in the pool. After a few minutes the guard walked off and the mom and dad went right back into the pool with the little one. I did NOT see signs saying they weren't allowed in, however... Cheryl, we sat next to the man on our roll call who was cruising solo and was shy and engaged him in conversation. DH saw him a few times during the week and tried to have him join in a few things and he refused so wonder how that worked out...very sad. Kat, you will have a BLAST. Can't wait to go back!!! Oh, we would invariably go to the casino and casino bar after dinner and meet up with people we had met on this cruise and who we had met on previous cruises. There is music on the promenade next to the bar every night. Impromtwo was very good and very popular. Lots of people dancing to them, but that's the kind of cruise this was. Just a TON OF FUN! :)

Oh - that' sounds yummy - thanks for the tip! I will definitely look for that!

UGH! I'll have to see if Deck Director has signs to the gangway. Do you remember what deck it was on?

I had heard that the band was True Identity - was there a different band? Is there a place to dance? I was wondering about that. The cover band on the Miracle played in Frankie and Johnnie's and there was a bar and a dance floor, so it was great.

So glad to hear you had fun! I'm sooo looking forward to my cruise!

There are different venues for singers/bands. Cool Club, lobby, Royal Flush-the promenade at the casino...so they would alternate different areas different nights. You can figure out who you like on the lst night then "follow them" all week! ;)

The gangway was on the lowest deck like it always is. Where the crew live, medical center, etc. It's trying to GET THERE that's hard...just follow the herd!!!

Thanks for mentioning the Deck Director app, Kat. I just downloaded it - it's really cool! Since I'm known to get lost easily (DH says I lack the gene for sense of direction:p) I'm sure it will come in handy.

I LOVE it and I haven't even used it on a ship yet! I've been practicing finding places I know I'll want to go on our Splendor cruise in June :D

One thing I missed on this cruise: usually every cruise I get a tshirt with the picture of the ship and all the statistics. Sometimes I even get a coffee mug with same also. They did not have ANY ship logo t's. I think there might have been a golf/polo shirt with the funnel on it. Wasn't looking and I know those are pricey anyway. Only thing they had was a black t with GOT CARNIVAL on it. I have every single ship we have been on. Hoping they have them by the time we go in February. Might just have to contact John Heald about this! Also, if you are buying shirts, read the label on the clothing. I have been burned before by having the wrong size sticky tape on the item. :(

Oh - great! That's good to know - choices are good. And thanks for the heads up on the gangway!

Karry, I have found that over the last few years it is nearly impossible to find ship specific items anymore, especially in clothing items. The last four cruises we've taken, (Fascination, Glory, Pride x2), we couldn't find any!!! Seems like all they are selling is generic Carnival crap!!!

:(:( They had GOT CARNIVAL and I believe GOT CRUISE t shirts. They were black with the wording in white. Totally blah...

I was hoping maybe it was because Splendor repositioned and maybe they didn't have a chance to restock. But now that I think of it, they didn't have any logo things when we were on Miracle in February. Again, I figured maybe they were trying to "get rid of stuff" before THAT SHIP repositioned and I had a Miracle t shirt from a few years ago. Might be something we should take up with John Heald.

New tip:

The first sea day there is a cooking demonstration (with samples) at the Steakhouse. This is a free event and will probably be the best lunch you will eat on board. Check your Funtimes and come early because it fills up fast.

Our menu was:

Mushroom Cappuccino Soup

Baby Leaf Spinach and Mushroom Salad

Broiled Rosemary Infused Chicken

Tiramisu

I'm really enjoying reading all of these tips about the Splendor! This will be my third cruise but my first one of this length so I'm super excited. We'll be sailing out on July 20th. I'm wondering if any of you who've sailed the Splendor out of the NY port can comment on the embarkation process. DH and I will be taking the train in from Jersey and will take a cab to the port. What's the best time to arrive? We want to get our vacation started as soon as we can!

Thanks! Will definitely check it out! At least you got one day to do fun things :(

There are still some cabins left on the June 10 sailing - come join us! ;)
