Lovely pictures Jeff - you are a good soul to post them, to make everyone feel more relaxed. The field looks exactly like those round here do at present.

Yes! Yes!! Lovely pictures from the charming and interesting UK. Have been there five times visiting many varied and enjoyable parts of your land with its great history, culture, food and great people. Need to return, but been busy doing Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Colorado, Virginia, etc., earlier this year. AND, now planning an early 2015 "adventure" to the Amazon and Caribbean on the Silver Cloud. So much to see, but so little time and money.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

There are some beautiful walks around here but I'm rather reluctant to go alone...

Where is 'around here'? I think I remember that you live in North Yorkshire? While we currently live in Lincolnshire we still have a home near Northallerton but rarely get the chance to spend more than a few days ''home''. We don't miss those icy transpennine gales coming down Wensleydale in the winter, though!

Hi Terry,

You are a giant amonst us lesser posters ... so it is lovely to see you amonst us.

The UK is I guess some cash to get to but from then on you get so much bang per buck with respect to experiences, and heritage. And in my own ... somewhat humble way .... may I suggest that this is your genuine original homeland? :)

Whereas, us Brits may have sent people to Ozland against their will .... you are where you are entirely at your own grace and can view us people left back her as eager hosts?

And we have proper weather.

Jeff

What a lovely post Jeff....we never tire of your pics, in fact l become quite disappointed when you don't post any!

There are some beautiful walks around here but I'm rather reluctant to go alone...even with pup, who is a complete coward...

My old Alsatian would walk miles with me and l always felt safe with him.

Wow....now the Singapore service that you receive is well up my street and how wonderful for you and Mrs Jeff to enjoy that pampering.

Again...l love reading about everyone's travel experiences .....did l read that you've got another trip planned Jeff?

Yes .. I think I'm being told to cancel lunch in Nice in a couple of weeks and replace it with crustaceans in either Hampshire or Devon. Vispring beds have been mentioned. And we have two trips to Singapore now commited in Jan/Feb and June 2015 ... a total of around 50 nights ish.

Lunch!

Sophia - BBC 2 last night at 8 until 9. It is the first of a series of 4, so probably on again same time next week. I don't know if those numbers in the paper mean anything which helps to find it, but the one for this was 3008.

Many thanks LL, I'll look out for the show next week.

I live in South Yorkshire, but right on the border with Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire...rather confusing with post and telephone codes and local councils! Lincoln is about a half hour drive away.

Ha ha! I know what you mean. The Lincs/Cambs border runs at the bottom of the field and the Norfolk border is about 3 miles away. We are also the only house in the (Cambs) postcode which makes it easy for delivery drivers - as long as they put the postcode into the sat nav otherwise they never find us.

Fine city, Lincoln.

This post ... as is traditional here ... is the square root of buG&er all.

Today has been quite a landmark. I wanted Daughter to experince BA First Class at least once .... so we went through all the previosuly described shenanighans involved with prizing out such morsels from BA ... a couple of years in the planning ... and an hour or so she departed these shores for the colonies absolutely topped up with LPGS and everything else she and he could etc .... and we've been following progress (somewhat sadly I know ...) on FLIGHTRADAR24.

Safe travels, lovely daughter. :)

Jeff, that's great!! I'm sure she'll be raising a glass to you and your dear lady en route....wishing her safe travels.

Hope she doesn't become too accustomed to the high life as my daughter did when l took her to the Dorchester for a long weekend!!

S:)

Thanks.

Au contraire Sophy Gal.

Being dissatisfied with the status quo makes one make it happen. I want her to want to become accustomed. She has worked so hard to become a young talented corporate lawyer .... and had the joy of working with me and surrounding some of my miscreant clients with the protective barrier of her knowledge.

I'll never forget the first time I arrived in her reception with my first .... and she came out from her office ... and I lifted her up and forgot myself and gave her an enormous bear hug and kiss .... and she said " Dad, please put me down .... I'm a lawyer ...."

Special relationships dads and daughters. I'll never forget her asking me to read her stuff for her degree ... and how very direct we both were.

She is very modest about her success. She has a particular specialisation of charity law. It transpired during a recent chat ... and she was pretty shy about it ... she does the charity contracts for both Princes and Mrs Wales.

Tonight ... a Milano Salami baguette and a slug ...

What?? I can't believe what I just read. Please, derbylane, if you don't like what you read, please don't read it and definitely don't leave a nasty comment.

Jeff, as you know I don't post often, but I love catching up with my Cooler friends every day.

Thanks Sophia, Jeff and everyone else. Love the pictures and ALL the news.

I'm bringing my (soon to be 21) daughter to England in January. Sadly only in Economy but we've put in a FF request for a business upgrade - don't like our chances but will keep hoping.

I would love her to experience Business Class. Proud mum wants the best for her baby, so I know exactly where you're coming from Jeff.

Why is CC allowing this personal conversation between a few people on a SS web. I could care less about your daughter's first class passage to LA or coach class to Boston. This should be about sharing information not about your next lunch.

Derbylane,

I'm so sorry you feel this way, you sound very unhappy. Nobody is forced to read this thread and most certainly no one is forced to post here, but please do have some respect for those of us who do and enjoy.

Maybe you would really like to join us, you'd be most welcome as everyone is.

Sophia :)

Thank you Karin,

It's very sad that folk feel so strongly that they need to leave such distasteful comments, but we mustn't allow it to spoil the banter and lightheartedness we enjoy here....so as we say here....Keep Calm and Carry On...

Look forward to hearing what you have planned for your visit....

Karin and Sophia I think have both responded adequately to your post which has upset them and me ... and no doubt the "many others" who dip into the thread because it is exactly what it is.

I remain totally perplexed by people who's lives are such they go out of their way to take trouble to see if they can upset others. You seem to be concerned that forum rules are observed. You need to read the opening post and comply with the rules - as they apply to you. You are the only person in this thread who is breaking forum rules. For your information:

A very gracious response Jeff considering the very personal comments directed at your good self.

Yes, l am upset by the post but the one thing that doesn't happen on the cooler is that we start battling, which is why we are all here and enjoy it so much.

Utterly perplexing. Particularly as you know, when I really go out of my way to help others here and in other threads and try to be helpful in a practical way. You will recall that the lady (?) concerned made some rude and silly remarks about boas and other things in this thread, criticised us for calling a Chinese Meal a Chinky (because it may upset others) .... a British Tradition shared by the wonderful Chinese themselves ... but then also quite bizarrely decided to suggest to another poster that they "learn to spell ... Just a thought" and then went onto to post the most incoherrent post ever. It is a shame that she sets somewhat lower standards for herself than she seems to demand (mostly incorrectly) and expect of others. We're all here a very short time, and why make others upset when you can try and make them smile instead ... the sole purpose of this thread.

And on that subject ..... Mr Ocado has just delivered .... and I'm doing Singapore Chilli Prawns one day over the next few ... plus The Boss requested Cod Fish Cakes in Parlsey Sauce and we have some lovely Tortellini in tomato sauce.

We've decided to sell a few of our domain names. I cannot belive we had 42 in total and Number Two Son said initially that the main few will buy us a house .... but then downgraded his estimate to a very very small cheap second-hand car. We shall see! :( I have no idea how to sell these things but I guess I'm going to have to learn. I hope it will replenish some of the funds that our generation always seem to have to find for our sproggs.

I am rather suprised to see this thread has had in total around 85,000 views .... and it would be really lovely if those that lurk bite the bullet and make that "first post" and join in. The only qualification is to be nice to others and chat and make others smile. Everyone welcome. Previous slates always wiped clean.

Karin,

That is a long trip. I'm afraid that your note isn't going to make much difference but some tips that might improve your chances ever so slightly.

1. Keep an eye on the loads for the flight and if it looks high then depending on the airline some tricks that increase (slightly) chances on heavy loaded flights

2. choose your seats as early as you can, by all means check in online but don't actually print the boarding pass to as late as possible.

3. don't specify particular types of meal requirements. These people rarely get upgraded as the meal is the limiting factor and you will stay in the cabin you booked

Hope you and daughter enjoy your trip to blighty!

Jeff

EDITED: ps. ...... you're not stopping off in Singapore on the way out or back are you? Some satay and drinks may be offered ...... :)
