Daily Clothes Planning Spreadsheet

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised no one is using an app. I use pack the bag app. It's pretty neat as you can have different "bags" for different vacations and can duplicate the bag so you don't have to start from scratch for each one.

Thank you, Cruzin Carol, for suggesting this app. I just got it, and it's GREAT!

Our first cruise this Nov for 14 nights. We plan to take one large and a carryon each. Also plan to do laundry while onboard. Does anyone else do a load or two while on a cruise? costs????

Yes, I do some laundry on virtually every trip I take, work or leisure - even if it's just a bra or undies or socks in the sink after exercise. If I'm on a cruise and the ship has DIY laundry, I use that option. On our Panama Canal cruise, we did not have self laundry and we waited for the stuff all you can into the bag cheap(er) price (on HAL) and did that. Otherwise, I have great liquid handwash I bought in France that I decant into a Go Toob and carry with me

Tabletop Dining is the answer; two pairs of black slacks for evening wear the entire cruise with a different top for each night. Then you only need one pair of black dress shoes. My tops tend to be wrinkle-resistant light material -- you can roll them up and they come out of the suitcase looking great. Plan on wearing your capris/shorts/dungarees for day wear at least 2-3 times with each top being worn twice. Use the laundromat/laundry services/or wash things out in your sink if necessary.

It's so much easier dragging around just one suitcase with a small carry-on.

Good luck! You'll have a great time.

Omg you have nailed it for me! That's exactly what I want to bring but all these formal nights make me nervous it's bad enough i'm on my own. But also to draw attention to myself by not wearing a dress! I got told it just cost 25€ for 30 items for everything washed and pressed means I can start fresh the second week. ;)

:D a couple cruise ago I counted and I had 15 pairs of shoes! Why because I could LOL My DD burst out laughing and then I joined in!

I take some casual=shorts/tops, some eve. resort casual to put on after dinner for the casino or ?, Dinner 1-2 formal depending and some easy beaded spandex polyester dresses that never wrinkle and layer like nothing in the case. Then if Supper club one nice for that. Then a mix of suits for deck/beach. An exercise outfit and a jacket just incase nice athletic one.

I found we are at the pool a lot, maybe a Tea Time, etc. never wear the casual, and half the time too tired to roam around and if casino Roulette looks like not much winning skip that and end up watching TV. Sitting on aft balcony. I guess we are always going so darn worn out! BUT its suppose to be relaxing with some adventure isn't it. I keep saying just bring the suits/cover-ups and dresses, but never listen.

I also can't fix my clock on here to update.

Make your own wrinkle release. It works just as well. Put liquid fabric softener in a bottle and add water. Shake it up and you're good to go.

I simply lightly spray my wrinkled clothes with plain water (the unscented kind :)), hang them, and for many garments, this releases all wrinkles, or at least enough for me to look decent. Sometimes I even lightly mist things and then put them on -- works great, too, as long as I don't immediately sit down in them -- then it creates more wrinkles!

I'm with you!

I was just on a *light packing thread* in another part of the forum and I was shocked at some of the responses when I posted what I take. I have more than enough clothing packing in a carry on. For 7 days, I take one pair of palazzos and two different blouses, two pairs of slacks and a pair of capris along with five blouses, and then three pairs of shorts, four summery tops, bathing suit, pashmina, cover up, underwear, PJ's, and three pairs of shoes. (One I wear) I add my toiletries and make up and I'm good to go. I love only dragging the one bag! I wash out underwear....that's about it! We used to take SOOOOO much with us and I ended up rewashing and putting it away. I have no more clothing meltdowns because I match up everything before I leave. Every cruise I go on gets just a little easier where the packing is concerned....and the fact I don't have to set my luggage out the last night is just wonderful! :D

I have found my people! :D I use packing spreadsheets for EVERY trip, business and pleasure.

For my non-cruise trips, I have my spreadsheet broken down by day and then day clothes and evening clothes for dressing down. The columns are: bottoms (slacks, dockers, capris, jeans, shorts), top #1 (blouse, shortsleeve, tank), top #2 (cardigans or blazer), Socks, Shoes and then the final column is jewelry. The row is the day. If I have two outfits (work for day and dress down for evening) then I use two rows for the day.

For cruises, the spreadsheet is more complex! For this spreadsheet, the columns are days and I note whether it's a sea day or docked/excursion. The rows are Morning, Afternoon and Evening. In each cell Day 1/Morning, Day 1/Afternoon, etc, I put in my clothes for that time. If it's a docked day, the morning and afternoon are merged and usually the same thing. I include all the clothes, shoes and jewelry in the cell. They are color coded too - blue are sea days and some shade of pale orange are docked days. That's the first page! The second page in the spreadsheet is a list per type - Tops as one column, Bottoms, Shoes, Jewelry, etc. I copy over from page 1 to page 2 and use page 2 as a packing list. Once I have page 2, I start washing clothes and putting them when clean in a guest room - folded on the bed or hanging in the closet. Oh, and at the bottom of the first sheet are the things I take on EVERY trip. Undies, bras, nightie, brush, comb, makeup, etc. This is especially good for phone cords, folding hamper and all the the little things that are a pain to forget at home.

I have shared my spreadsheet with many of my fellow cruisers, some appreciate my er...attention to detail...while others think I'm nuts (but a well packed and organized nut). Overpacking is not an issue and I always feel relaxed that I haven't forgotten anything.

If anyone wants a copy, I'm happy to share!

Pam

This sounds like a great spreadsheet , are the items from page 1 auto filled in on page 2?

I would love a copy. can you email it to ddaghofer at vision2000 dot ca

Thanks

I use the plastic bags my newspaper comes in for my shoes, they're free. :)

I save the plastic bedding sheet/blanket packages to pack things in.

You know they look like this

Transparent_PVC_Material_Bedding_Bag_Plastic_Packaging.jpg_220x220.jpg

I put all the shoes in one maybe two, depending on how many shoes I pack. :o:D

Smaller package bags I use for my under garments, bathing suits, etc.

What's great is they are free. :D

Just go back from a business trip - while packing for said business trip, I changed my mind (ie deviated from my spreadsheet) and FORGOT A WHITE SHIRT!!!!!!!!!! I had to go buy a white shirt because the jacket I brought (on the spreadsheet) needed a shirt underneath!

Lesson Learned: Do NOT deviate from the spreadsheet! :D

You can pack all of that in a carryon? What size are you, a teeny tiny 0 with size 5 feet? OMG. I'm impressed and baffled at the same time. Are we talking carryon as in it fits in the overhead on the plane? Or just carryon as in I can roll it off the ship myself?

We are talking about a carry on that goes in the overhead. Mine is 22 inch and the hubby's suitcase is 18 inches and we have his suit in there along with his selected clothing. It's very easy and I use this method.

It takes a few tries to get it, but once you learn how to do it, you have it down. Every tiny bit of space is utilized to include the useless area between the handle inside the bag. (I had some of my underwear in that area...LOL!) BTW, I'm a size 20 and 5'8", so I'm a big girl....but I am working on reducing for myself. I added the pictures before, but here they are again. The bag that has Hoops on it (Hallmark Character if you don't know) is mine. The only reason we have additional bags on top is because we stayed in Fort Lauderdale with friends. The clothing in the larger carry on is matched up from what I laid out on the bed and even though you can't see, there are two blouses on each set of slacks. Once you learn this method, it is so easy....another reason I use a list. The day I pack, I take each pair of pants and lay out the exact blouses I plan to wear around the bed.

By the way, I actually had more in this bag then what I mentioned....this one had a sweater, set of gym clothing, a larger scarf and a maxi sundress. I didn't bundle the sweater or sundress because when we left DC, I needed the sweater as it was a very brisk April. The sundress I kept out because I wasn't sure where we were dining in FLL and I couldn't pack that carry on the same way as this. We suffered no wrinkles to speak of and my bag was packed a week prior due to priorities at work. I didn't even open the expander and these are not travel clothes, however when looking at blouses, I tend to select blouses that are thinner.

The pictures I included are of my clothing laid on the bed how I plan to wear it, before zippering my case and the bag sitting up in the spare room along with my hubby's. Didn't miss giving United $25 bucks per bag each way. That's not the main reason I do it, but I personally like holding on to my hard earned dollars.....100 bucks is a cruise credit! :D

LOL...when I go on my December cruise, I think I'm going to make a video and stick it on YouTube. I don't do too much different than Jon Holloway, except that I take a little more than he does! :p

When I pack, my bed looks the same.

EVERYTHING is out of the closet and drawers....Then I start eliminating items I won't need or use.

The things I do bring, could never, ever fit in a small suitcase such as yours.

Hats off to you!!!!

Maybe you should make a video. ;):D

I think the reason this works for me well is I love black and white and that's what I use for my bottoms. Most anything goes with those colors, let's face it. Formal night is palazzos and a fancy blouse. I'm done with that gown stuff...it may be for some ppl, but it isn't for me any longer. I'm not small and trying to find something that I felt good in me crazy. I have a LBD that if I want to take, I can. The one part of my body I feel good about is my legs, so the LBD works!

I am thinking about the video....heck, everything else is on YouTube!:p

I've watched that video a number of times and never believe he will actually be able to close the case!

And it's funny because when I watch it now, it looks to me as he sort of creates drama when he does that, mainly because I know how it has to go in to make it work. It's probably because he is a smaller guy and can just push the clothing in....because I'm larger, I make sure each piece is against the wall of the luggage and smoothed out each time I fold over a piece.

The airline gives you an allowance of a carry on and a personal item. The bags pictured qualified as our items. We took the Fort Lauderdale bag with us to the ship as we were going right to the airport once we disembarked, but that also could have been an extra case if there were people considering downsizing for trips. That bag fit under the seat in front of us and it holds a lot.

I know a lot of gals on the other thread said they need their full size hair items. Everything I use comes in a miniature. Matter of fact, I just found my dry shampoo at Five Below for those times that I come back and my hair is sort of ehhh from sea air, however I'm not ready for a shower because we might be enjoying drinks at sailaway and before dinner.

I have a lot of reasons for packing this way....and I'm sure many of you can relate.

1) Our luggage was lost twice..as stated, once it was never found, the next time came with a three AM wakeup call with a driver beating on our door attempting to wake the dead! He totally woke up our neighborhood!

2) I got tired of manhandling suitcases through the airport to the baggage counter and through streets of places we were visiting...it's so much fun breaking a wheel on a suitcase while you are dealing with cobblestone streets...yee haw!

3) We own two seaters and only so much luggage will fit in them. I plan to drive my cars now while I can....LOL, we are on a mission for fun!:D

4) I hate washing and rewashing clean clothing especially after a vacation....what a kill joy!

5) Nope, I don't like the extra fees tacked on by the airlines. We work hard and $100 bucks is still $100 bucks to me. No, it's not a lot money when it comes to what you paid for a cruise, but I look at it as it's a future cruise credit!

6)I hate the baggage carousel...it not so much the wait as how bad our baggage was treated. I had a brand new bag (before learning how to pack light) that I bought for a trip to New Zealand...Liz Claiborne to be exact. A wheel was totally broken off on the first trip. UGH.

7) The best reason of all....I don't suffer clothing meltdowns like I used to. I have everything picked out and I know how I am going to pair it when I wear it.

I realize packing light isn't for everyone and I appreciate that. I am a reformed SERIOUS overpacker....the reasons above are what started my list in the first place! :)

What happens if you buy something... or somethings? We always come home with more (sometimes a lot more) that we came with!

We rarely bring home anything any longer ourselves. Trying to downsize our lives. I have a foldable bag though that can come along should we chose to buy something. I wouldn't mine paying 25$ bucks on the way home if that was the case. :)
