temple1 Posted November 19, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Good news! We went to Portofino's twice on Indy back in January but I felt the menu was really limited. We went to Giovanni's table on Vision and it was wonderful. The risotto was incredible. I'm so glad they switched I will definitely reserve for DH and I when we go next month. Keasel Posted November 19, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 19, 2013 I'm not clear. Which does Independence currently have--a Portofino or a Giovanni's Table? I think it's a Giovanni's Table, but I got an email from Royal Caribbean about an upcoming Independence cruise that said Portofino. I think the email is wrong and Royal Caribbean doesn't use a proofreader to check the emails they send out. AN IMPRESSIVE MENU OF DINING OPTIONS From finger foods to a five-course gourmet meal, our innovative chefs onboard Independence of the Seas® will take your palate global with a variety of both complimentary and specialty dining options. For one low cover charge you can enjoy specialty restaurants such as Chops Grille steakhouse or Portofino Italian Restaurant and choose any items off the menu from appetizer to dessert*. leaveitallbehind Posted November 19, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 19, 2013 I think it's a Giovanni's Table, but I got an email from Royal Caribbean about an upcoming Independence cruise that said Portofino. I think the email is wrong and Royal Caribbean doesn't use a proofreader to check the emails they send out. As others have mentioned, it is Giovanni's Table as of the April '13 refurbishment. Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted November 19, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Many thanks for your answers to my question and those mouth watering photos of Giovanni's delights. We've eaten in both Portofino and Giovanni's Table on other ships. Hubby loves Giovanni's lamb chops. We are also big fans of Portofino. One question remains. On Allure and Oasis, Giovanni's Table is open for lunch. Is it open for lunch on Independence?

We just ate at Portofino's on Liberty last week as we like Ps for the Tuna. We were so disappointed when they brought the Giovanni's bread:(. Much prefer the bread basket in P. When I enquired why the rustic olive bread the waiter said they were getting ready to switch to Giovanni's next year!

Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted November 20, 2013 Author #22 Share Posted November 20, 2013 Again, many thanks for your answers. I'm glad to know that G'sT will be open for lunch just as it is on Allure and Oasis. It is also interesting that some find the G'sT on Indy even better than Chops. I'm really looking forward to our cruise and those food photos made me really hungry. I can just taste the tiramisu.

maureencruiser Posted November 20, 2013 #25 Share Posted November 20, 2013 More Food Porn from Giovannis - I had the lasagne, also, but I think mine looks better than the other one, smaller, though. We had our solo lunch there and one man had to send his steak back because it was undercooked. The chef came back with it to make sure it was OK the second time and apologized. Nice touch.
