The Tsar Posted December 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2013 For many years we have always stayed at the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale, FL. before embarking on Caribbean cruises with Holland America. One of the reason was Chuck's Steak House located directly across the street. We received official notification from Chuck's that their SE 17th Street location had been sold and would close their doors on October 19th, 2013. :( Has anyone stayed at the Embassy Suite recently, that can tell me who purchased the 17th Street Chuck's Steak House? Is there a replacement restaurant?
KirkNC Posted December 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2013 Well they still have a location on 50th street, not sure it is worth that kind of ride.
The Tsar Posted December 23, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted December 23, 2013 Well they still have a location on 50th street, not sure it is worth that kind of ride. I am aware of the other location, but it has never received the good reviews as the SE 17th location had. It almost seemed like two different establishments/owners. I was just wondering about any replace. The location was just so convenient, a quick walk across the street. Hopefully some who has recently stayed at the Embassy Suite will be able to shed some light on the matter. We will be back there in February - Just curious. Krazy Kruizers Posted December 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2013 We stayed at the Embassy Suites in November -- it was all dark at that time. We did not walk across the street to look to see if there were any signs.

Actually our windows from ES faced Chucks steak house and it is just closed, no sign of any thing going on to replace it in the near future. Rare boards Posted December 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 23, 2013 We stayed at the Hyatt Place on 17th SE Dec. 5th and we walked past the location and it was in darkness, did not appear that it would open.
sail7seas Posted December 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 23, 2013 Take a very short taxi ride to Grille 66 at Hyatt Pier 66. Steaks/food there wonderful, though a bit pricey.
Typhoon1 Posted December 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Well they still have a location on 50th street, not sure it is worth that kind of ride. Not worth the trip. The 17th St. location had established itself as the place to dine.
Rare cruisingxpert Posted December 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 24, 2013 I heard from friends that he was offered a ton of money and sold the land to a developer. Think it will become a condo complex. CJ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Rare Hlitner Posted December 24, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Do yourself a favor when staying at the Embassy Suites. Walk about 2 blocks to "Kellys Landing" and discover real lobster or one of their other fresh seafood offerings. I can get pretty decent steak on most cruise ships...but cannot get Maine Lobster or truly fresh seafood. And by the way, Kellys Landing also has world-class New England Clam Chowder and an amazing Seafood Chowder (only available on Fridays if you get there before they run out). Hank Ditto what Hank said! We eat at Kelly's every time we go to FLL. It's hard to beat 2 - 1# lobsters for $30. My husband was in heaven!
sail7seas Posted December 24, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We get two one pound lobsters with cole slaw, french fries for $18.99...... They call it 'twin lobster specials' and some of our casual restaurants offer it especially in summer. We don't order lobster outside of New England or Maritime Canada. That's also a great price but being in New England you are much closer to the source. Sent from my GT-P3113 using Forums mobile app

Charles4515 Posted December 25, 2013 #20 Share Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) Now that's sounds worth checking out! I prefer the Southport Oyster Bar which is also a couple of blocks from Embassy Suites to Kelly's. Southport Oyster Bar is an authentic Florida joint, not a New England import, and it is pretty good. If you don't mind driving there is a great steakhouse called Tropical Acres on Griffin Rd. and for good seafood the Rustic Inn on Ravenswood can't be beat. bjkrlk Posted December 25, 2013 #23 Share Posted December 25, 2013 And Bimini Boatyard is THE best. Across the street and down a bit but walkable.
sail7seas Posted December 25, 2013 #24 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Is Bimini Boatyard good again? When it was sold, the quality was not what it used to be and we didn't return. I'm happy if it has returned to being what it once was.
