CALLING ALL COFFEE LOVERS: for those of us (and I believe there are many!) who can’t live without Starbucks or a great independent coffee house, it’s pure torture to be on a ship that serves coffee that tastes like ditchwater. Wouldn’t it be great to know the inside scoop on which ships(lines) are the best for people passionate about coffee?

We need your help! Please share your opinions and experiences for an upcoming Cruise Critic article on the best brews at sea. Let us know about coffee you’ve loved or despised. If you’ve noticed the dining room is serving up better morning coffee than the breakfast buffet, great shipboard coffee venues, plus anything else you think a fellow coffee lover would want to know.”

I too have noticed that the coffee we get from room service is better than we would get from the Horizon Court. Also the coffee in the dining rooms are pretty good also.

I don't really have a problem with the coffee that Princess serves. I figure if I could handle the coffee we have at work then I could drink anything and I am a big coffee drinker.

I am definately a coffee drinker and i have no complaints about the coffee on any princess ship ! I think this is one of the areas just like food that is purely subjective. Just my humble two cents worth.

Best coffee this fall will be in our suite, 18 days around the north Pacific.

 

I have no idea about Princess' coffee, although the "bad" votes far outnumber the "it's OK/good" votes.

 

If it were only a 7-day cruise, I might risk leaving it up to Princess. But not for 18 days.....I'd be as ferocious as a grizzly.

 

We are bringing our own coffee maker.....we buy cases of coffee each time in Germany and ship it home, so will bring a few of those bricks......and it will be just like home (except for the 106 degrees which are expected today!).

The coffee served in the Patisserie on Princess' ships has been quite good, and I think better than the coffee in the Horizon Court (or whatever the lido eating area is called on the particular ship).

I have to disagree with the previous posters. I like coffee, I hated the Princess coffee, in both the dining room and at the buffet. In total I managed to get down about half a cup before calling "uncle". Also, in the dining room, if you want any specialty coffee (espresso, cappuccino, etc) there was a surcharge of $1.50 to $2. I did not pay for this, also didn't seek out any coffee at La Patisserie or order from room service, so I can't comment on those.

I've only been on Carnival ships recently, Room Service and the Dining room on the Glory had excellent coffee, it was almost like I got fresh brewed coffee every time from them. The Buffet areas coffee was disgusting, no matter what time I went there, but I put enough Kahlua in it to offset the yuciness :)

We have been on 3 carnival cruises in the last 3 years...the last 2 cruises being the Pride and Spirit in the Spirit Line of ships with Carnival. In my opinion, they have WONDERFUL coffee!! They also have a chocolate spout beside the coffee station that is to die for! We will be on the CB on the September 3-10 cruise and after hearing how bad the coffee is on Princess, I was very surprised as Carnival owns Princess. Since we are both avid coffee drinkers, we didn't want to take the chance so we purchased a brewer that fills 2 individual cups (14 oz each) to bring with us. I was disappointed to think that we had to bring our own coffee and brewer, but for us, it would be more disappointing if we had yukky coffee. Carnival also has the coffee shops that have the equivalent of StarBucks. Who would have thought Princess would have coffee syrup??? That doesn't even sound good!

Another coffee snob here. Sorry but why any cruise line feels the need to use the coffee syrup other than to cut costs is beyond belief. I dont think you have to love Starbucks to appreciate a good quality coffee brew. And of the 3 lines that we have been on (Carnival, Princess and Celebrity), the cappuccinos on the Carnival were the best, Princess was ok and Celebrity's tasted like regular coffee with steamed milk (ie., bad).

 

As far as regular coffee in the dining rooms and at the buffet, it seemed that both Princess and Celebrity used that awful syrup (we asked!) Havent been on Carnival for a few years so not sure if that is the case now but believe the previous poster. The regular brewed coffee provided at room service by both Princess and Celebrity was ok but they need to improve their decaf "brew" for sure.

I have to admit that I like the Princess coffee and think that Starbucks coffee is expensive, over-rated and way too bitter for my taste. Heck, my nephew works for Starbucks and hates the coffee.

 

Pam my feelings exactly. When we're at the airport and my husband gets starbucks, he has them add some hot water to mine.

I don't dislike Princess' coffee and drink it. sure, I prefer my gourmet coffee that I fix at home every morning but I can live with Princess' for one week.

 

Starbucks is expensive, too acidic and too strong but I even put up with that from time to time (not every day or even every week).

DH and I are only "morning" coffee drinkers and have always found the coffee from room service and/or dining room to be just fine. The few times that we've had coffee in Horizon Court, I think we'd agree with the oft-posted description of "brown water."

 

I occasionally enjoy a coffee "drink" shipboard in the evening, and it really doesn't seem to matter what the coffee tastes like if it's mixed with Bailey's, Amaretto, Kahlua, Frangelico, etc. Princess does a fine job with these coffee "beverages." Good 'til the last drop!

I don't have a problem with the coffee on Princess. It keeps me regular and has all the caffiene I need. That being said though the best coffee is served on Crystal. A very nice blend. Also the coffee bar is free and they make terrific lattes and cappucinos.I didn't like RCCL coffee, too weak, Carnival was so long ago I don't remember it. Disney's was bad, nice French roast.

My friends and relatives and I (6 of us in total), all think that Princess coffee is just fine. Not great, but definitely drinkable.

 

For the record, none of the six of us will drink Starbucks coffee and none of us like flavored coffee of any kind. I actually left a casino/hotel in Atlantic City to go out on the boardwalk to get McDonald's coffee (after trying the Starbucks again - like I think I'm going to suddenly like it or something???).

As bad as McDonald's is (and it's vile), I can drink half a cup of it.

 

If Princess starts serving Starbuck's (or anything similar) then I'll have to start bringing a coffee maker
