Spring Break in Texas: Review of Navigator of the Seas March 9, 2014

Recommended Posts

Oh no...not fog! While I love my cruise, I am ready to go home in the morning!! Fingers crossed that it will dissipate through the night. I didn't get as much work done as I needed to....so I really need/want to be home by the early afternoon.

Casino fee - if you are a member of casino Royale you get the sticker. To be invited you need to accumulate 500 points during a cruise. We usually get 500 points the first day or two....betting $1 a pull and losing close to a grand. It's much harder to get as a blackjack player. Once you ge the sticker you don't have to pay the 5% fee and they give you free drinks. You can also call the casino services after the cruise and get OBC on your next cruise (or payment toward next cruise) based on your play.

Last cruise we had 4000 points and got $400 cash when we came onboard this cruise. This cruise I gambled MUCH less and only have about 1000 points. The machines were really tight for me and I still lost a bunch.

Dinner at Giovanni's was great!! Best food of the week, hands down.

My daughter is 32. She lives in Austin. My son is 35 and lives in Houston. The rest of our bunch live in Texarkana. They are all single.

Sorry to hijack this wonderful review but wanted to say hello from another Texarkanan who loves to cruise. We will be on NOS in October. This will be my seconded sailing on her. I'm looking forward to seeing how she has changed.

Does anyone know if Johnny Rockets has a happy hour like they have on the Oasis?

Happy sailing!

Small world! I sometimes teach Sociology on the UACCH campus in Hope. This semester I am teaching 2 classes on the Texarkana campus.

Even though I cruised twice in January, I can hardly wait for October :D

I am hoping the fog dissipates overnight also, while my daughter and son in law are staying in Houston overnight, they have somewhere they really need to be Sunday afternoon, and it's over an hour from Galveston.

I'll be on the June 29th cruise with five other family members. We're in junior suites at the very aft, so we can see where we've been ;)

We are also on the June 29th sailing! There will be 6 of us, my parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary!

This will be our first with RCCL , my DH and I have sailed with Carnival x 4

My parents have never cruised and really had to be convinced to do this for their celebration because they are not one for the sun or a lot of walking, so I hope things get better before June.

Thank you all so much for all the great information, I have learned a lot!

Seaofwonder - thanks for all the good info. Will you help with the MDR menu order if you can.... Based on your posts the order was:

Sun- Mojo

Mon - Saffron

Tues - Pimento (Italian)

Wed - Basil ( crab cakes, pear salad)

Thurs - Sage - never heard of this one, maybe Shiitake????

Fri - jasmine (tortellini, lobster)

Sat - I don't think you said

Anyway, I'm basing my specialty dining on the MDR menus so I just warn to figure out the order. I'll be on the opposite itinerary, so if anyone has sailed that one can help, that would be great !

Oh, do you know what time early seating was? Thanks!!!

I am not much for the sun and I am unable to walk very much but i still love to cruise. I bet they will really enjoy it when they get on the ship. We spend quite a bit of time in our cabin or on the balcony. We usually only get off at the port and look around a little and then get back on the ship. We usually have a very relaxing cruise.

Happy Anniversary to them! That is great! We will be married 42 yrs. next month. We have a few years to go to catch them. Hope you and them have a wonderful time.

Well, we have pea soup fog :( Called downstairs and they don't know anything yet. The fog horn has been going off for about two hours.

Fortunately, we don't have a flight to catch....but it still sucks. Mother Nature strikes.

We're close enough that we have cell service.

The order:

Mojo - seafood spaghetti, grilled pork chop, salmon, prime rib, etc.

Saffron - shrimp ravioli, crepes au gratin, duck, corvina fillet, beef tenderloin

Pimento - lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, chicken Marsala, tiger shrimp

Basil - cordon blu, cod loin, pear salad, etc.

Sage - Singapore noodles, potato pie, roasted chicken, etc.

Jasmine - fisherman plate night

Pomodoro - rigatoni, roasted turkey, lamb shank, tandoori chicken salad

Photos didn't happen because our attendant didn't always bring them.

The pilot boat just came and picked up the pilot off of the Magic a few minutes ago, longer than normal after they docked it seemed. Wondering if that pilot is coming back after you guys. May be trying to limit traffic in the channel but at least get the two cruise ships in.

I was wondering which ship was on the port webcam -- assumed it wasn't us. I'm surprised he captain hasn't made an announcement yet as to the delay. He boards outside Windjammer are just saying "delayed."

So it looks like 8:30-9:00. I feel sorry for the folks on our deck who clearly didn't get the announcement, and have already vacated their cabins.

Yikes...why would they leave?? Clearly we are not docked....delayed notices were on the tv as well.

I just looked on Vessel Finder...8:30 looks like a pretty good estimate. It may depend on if the captain takes the time to turn this morning, or just gets the ship in. A front is due in a little while, and that should clear things out.

Come on ship, please dock. I am on the next cruise! Waiting in my hotel room on my IPad waiting for her to dock.

And this why I would Never book an early flight. Galveston's weather can be tricky.

On the port side we can clearly see buildings on the shore. Starboard side we can't see anything.

Had breakfast at the WJ. Seeing people coming up with luggage...not sure why.

No more announcements since that first one.

I'm predicting a giant mess for disembarkation.

I'll post whenever the captain says anything new. I have much better Internet now that I'm back on AT&T data.

Have a great cruise! We do the same itinerary in about a month. Will you try to get a pic of the Sage menu (night 5)? I've never heard of it or seen it.

Seaofwonder - thanks for everything. Safe travels home!
