When was your first Princess Cruise?

My first cruise was in 2005 on the Sapphire Princess to Alaska. Sapphire was a newer ship and gorgeous. We were late departing due to an on board repair regarding the lifeboats, as I recall. Leaving Seattle we were out in the open Pacific and it was rough. That is when I learned that I get seasick. I was completely unprepared on what to do for mal de mer. In the public areas the crew were cleaning up after others suffering the rough seas. I finally got some Dramamine but then was drowsy and never quite got my balance. When we got back to Seattle I said, Thank goodness that is over and I never have to do that again!

But a strange thing happened once I got home. I started to recall the beauty of each Alaskan port. I started to think about how great it was to unpack once and travel to new destinations. Once I was on solid ground, I started to think of all the awesome dining venues I missed out on, all the entertainment I missed. I wanted to enjoy the smell of the sea air and see a night sky without city lights.

I took advise from Cruise Critic posts on how to treat the seasickness and booked another cruise. I am so glad I did.

I think it must have been kismet, but I always thought I would get seasick. But one of our neighbors told us about a very cheap transatlantic from Ft. Lauderdale to Copenhagen. A couple of days later we got an offer from Princess and booked a balcony on the Star and loved it. Our neighbor, an experienced cruiser, went to Costa and had a miserable time. Our next cruise was a Cariibean cruise on Holland. Didn't like. The ship wasn't as clean, the food wasn't as good and we could never get a table for two. Since then we have been back on Princess and will be elite after our spring Panama Canal/ Alaska cruises. We have taken a few transatlantics since then and we are happy with an inside cabin, but when the weather is warm we have discovered aft balconies. I keep thinking that if our first cruise had been on another cruise line or to the Caribbean (we live at the beach in Florida) we might have never have cruised again.

My first "cruise" was as a passenger on a freighter from Norfolk to/from Rotterdam in 1955. My first cruise was on the Song of Norway in 1980. My first Princess cruise was on the original Royal Princess in 1999 from Manaus (Brazil) to San Juan. I've been hooked on ships and cruising for a long, long time.

My first Princess cruise was the Coral, Anchorage to Vancouver August 20 -27, 2011. 4 More Princess cruises since then with two more booked. Like Pam my first cruising experience on a cruise ship was the Song of Norway, August 1985. Although I was working on the ship (44 cruises total) I had access to everything the passengers had-MDR and all the bars when I wasn't working, so it gave me a taste of cruising. I had a porthole cabin four feet above the waterline when sailing which gave me a good washing-machine view of the sea. Room steward service too.

After the SON I sailed as a passenger on two Carnival ships (Jubilee and Celebration I think in 89 and 1990). Celebration sailed from San Juan and visited Grenada, Aruba, Curacao and a port in Venezuela which was close enough to Caracas to do an excursion. Good itinerary but the Carnival staff were not as friendly and fun as the RCCL staff I was used to.

I won our first cruise from a raffle at a travel show! Golden Princess out of San Juan to the Caribbean--2005--7 days. I actually went to the travel show to get information for another cruise we had scheduled for 2005 to Alaska. We love Princess!

Our first Princess cruise was in 2007 on the Coral Princess. It was a 10 day partial transit of the Panama Canal and we have cruised once or twice a year on Princess ships ever since. We have experienced several different classes of Princess ships and have always been satisfied with their itineraries, service and amenities.:D

Our first Princess cruise was in 1999, on the Dawn Princess sailing out of San Juan. We loved it. But.........other things were going on in our life, and we did not cruise again until 2004. We received a sale flyer for the original Royal Princess. Sailing for 16 days round trip from Fort Lauderdale down to South America and up the Oronoco River. And we became part of "The Final season" for the original Royal Princess.

That is the cruise that really hooked us.....We now have 55 cruises with Princess, and several more booked. We always try and have 4 to 6 FCC's each, in pocket.

Star Princess, 2003: Mexico out of Long Beach. Our first cruise together. We went in October...because it was much cheaper and by Day 2, we understood why. We were caught between 2 hurricanes in the Pacific Ocean...this is how my husband found out he gets seasick ::yikes::

Lovely ship, miserable weather but it didn't turn us off to cruising! It only made me better at planning them ;)

First Princess cruise was on the original Island Princess from Vancouver to Alaska in May, 1991. Another ship (Regent Sea) hit us going into Skagway, so Princess flew us all back to Seattle, gave us a nice refund and future cruise credit. We've been on over 35 cruises since.

Small world - Our first cruise was on the Regent Sea and our first port was Skagway. We thought the bump when the Island Princess hit the Regent Sea was the ship hitting the pier - but we were already docked!

First Princess cruise was the Island Princess in 2007, reprising the earlier southbound Inside Passage cruise.

Even though we are Platinum with Carnival, we decided to try something different, so we booked the Emerald Princess & cruised for 7 glorious days the week of 1-24-10. We were in balcony cabin R223 & it was awesome!!

Our first Princess cruise was the last cruise of the Fair Princess, September 1995, 12- days San Francisco round trip. When we disembarked the ship in SF, only the crew needed to take the ship back to Vancouver, BC remained on board. It had been sold & was being turned over to the other cruise line.

My first cruise was RCCL Song of Norway 1980 from Miami. My first Princess cruise was the original Royal Princess 1990 from Acapulco to San Juan via Panama Canal. It was first class deluxe all the way. I got invited to a small VIP cocktail party hosted by the captain in his suite. I'll never forget that.

Gosh, this thread made me realize those of us who were "old" Stimar cruisers have now been sailing with Princess for over 25 years! :D

First cruise was on Sitmar's Fairsky in 1984, thus my CC name :) About to celebrate 30 years with Sitmar/Princess. Favorite cabin was Lido40. Have sailed on Sitmar's Fairwind, Fairsea, Fairsky. Miss the Sitmar ways very much, but also very happy with Princess. Much prefer the smaller ship, not the mega ones being put in the water now.

My first cruise with Princess cruise line was on Grand Princess to Hawaii February 18 to March 05,2015. On the overall, the cruise was okay but there were too many old people on this trip. By the 8th day the corridors smells like its a seniors home. The activities were mostly for elderly people.

I enjoyed some of the shows. I enjoyed the jokes that the cruise director always make. I enjoyed the food thoroughly. But 15 days was a little too long for me. By the 10th day, I was tired of the breakfast. I ate the same think mostly at the buffet line up on Lido deck. I enjoyed the songs the pianist played in the evening on deck 7. The waiters at the dining room were nice. I had a great time dancing, listening to music and watching others dance. I had a great time on some trivia nights.

Some things I did not like were:

1. The movies were always a repeat. They were mostly old shows.

2. Sometimes the shows indicated on the program were not what was shown on the screen in the day for movies under the stars.

3. The casinos were smoky. Smoking should not be allowed in casinos.

4. Smokers smoke out on deck 7. They should go up to a smoking room for them so people like me who are allergic to smoke will not suffer .

5. The cruise ship I thought was renovated did not look renovated. It looks old.

6. The ship should be checked for air quality.

But if you ask me if I would come back on grand princess, I would say no. But maybe I would try other ships by Princess cruise line.

My first cruise was in 1960 on the Bahamas Star. My girlfriend and her sister got to invite a friend to join them and her parents on a cruise to Nassau! It was so exciting. The four girls had a bunk room and had to use the bathroom down the hall. We thought it was wonderful! Our first Princess cruise was in 2000 on the old Crown to the Baltic - it also was wonderful. We are almost Elite and still love cruising Princess. Karen

Our first Princess cruise was also our first cruise. It was on the Caribbean Princess in February 2008 - 7 day Eastern Caribbean. We were in mini-suite D827.Our cabin steward was Augie and he was EXCELLENT. It was an absolutely fantastic introduction to cruising and we've been hooked ever since.

A week before this cruise was due to leave we got a call from Princess - the cruise was overbooked. They asked us if we would consider taking a different cruise - in return they would give us an upgrade to a full suite and future cruise credit. It was a fantastic offer but unfortunately we couldn't take advantage of it. No regrets though because our first cruise did spoil us.

We're looking forward to heading out this weekend on the Ruby for a 5 day Western Caribbean. We'll be calling at Grand Cayman - if any of you have read my previous posts you will know about our visit there in 2010 when medical concerns resulted in us abandoning our Super Bowl Crown Princess cruise.

This is a bit of a cheat, but I'll lay claim to having sailed on the first Princess cruise ship - the Princess Patricia.

Princess chartered the Pat from the CPR. I sailed on it in 1968 as a teenager. At that time it was back with the CPR cruising to Alaska.

I still have great memories, and a few mediocre photographs, of that trip and a great little ship. The ship was broken up long ago, but its bell is in the museum in Nanaimo, BC.

First Princess Cruise was on the Caribbean Princess, RT New York to Canada/New England August 2010, it was when that infamous Hurricane Earl made a mess of a lot of cruise itineraries. We made it to Newport, Boston, Bar Harbor, and St. John and I'll never forget when the Captain announced as we were leaving St. John that our stop to Halifax was cancelled in favor of racing back to New York as the storm worked its way up the coast. (Lucky for us we made it to Halifax a year prior on my first cruise on the Carnival Triumph). We made it New York on the evening of our Sea Day, and anchored just a few yards from the Verrazano–Narrows for the night before docking in Manhattan in AM, as the Queen Mary 2 had priority status for Red Hook that following day.
