Days at Sea, What to do?

I have been sailing on HAL for well over a decade. My recent cruise on HAL has me thinking of trying a new line. One thing I missed on HAL are things to do on sea days, there wasn't much. If I was to chose Celebrity for my next cruise, what can I expect for activities on sea days?

Which ship are you on? I would type in "Celebrity ______ Activities" into cruise critic's search bar. We're coming from 2 fun ships, so Celebrity will be a change, but we wanted something more low key in Alaska. I'm interested in the enrichment programs, the atmosphere, the dining. I've been told that there is not much to do after 9pm, so you might want to bring a couple books if you're a night owl like us ;)

Keep reading how there is not much to do at night- 6 Celebrity cruises and we always find things to do- late show, drinks, casino, dancing and spending time with new friends. Are we up all night- No, but 12:30-1:30 am most nights.

HAL Signature ships are better fit for younger, more energetic cruisers. On sea days we enjoyed jogging, sunbathing, open pools, hydropool, gym, table tennis and large sports court.

On sea days on Celebrity we missed promenade deck, spaciousness and privacy of sun decks on HAL, aft pool and hydropool in spa.

The highlight of Celebrity sea days was Hot Glass Show & Grass Lawn (except Silhouette and Reflection).

Great post Cruisetrail, comparing the two. I didn't see zumba on Celebrity's page.

On sea days we are often frustrated that things are running concurrently and we have to choose between two things we would like to attend.

They had zumba a few times on our Century cruise last year to Alaska. I don't remember if they had it on the Summit. We mostly found that there was so much to do we didn't have time to do everything. We enjoy the enrichment programs (the naturalist, Milos, on the Century last year was so fun and interesting - we prioritized his lectures). My husband was dancing at Revelations until 3:30 a.m. when we were on the Summit in February. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but we were never bored.

We enjoyed the naturalist on our Alaskan cruise, we participated in a couple of trivia contests (won one and get a deck of Celebrity playing cards, whoopee, lol), used the gym, read on our deck.

Warning: the "fitness seminar" and "medispa seminar" are really just selling opportunities.

Celebrity does have Zumba, twice a day. Once at 845am and once again in the afternoon, both on pool deck.

And of course, if you enjoy not doing anything for a while? I love

finding a chair and just watching the wake.....reading a bit, napping,

and letting a few hours go by......I have found relaxing without doing

any kind of activity is soooo nice:)

Wife and I are 3 star Mariners with HAL so I know well why you like this line. However, many HAL ships are getting aged out (e.g., our first was on the Maasdam that we have been on for a total of 3 times), The problem with the older HAL ships are NOT cosmetic, the problems are mechanical e.g., non functional thermostats and aging plumbing affecting sinks, toilets, water and air quality (musty or worse smells) etc.

On Celebrity that is our new favorite, few if any of the above problems are encountered. However, Celebrity is apparently striving to become CARNIVAL and some of our experiences were not great with strange ever present loud music everywhere...............not like HAL where you can always find a quiet space.

But on HAL you also find lots of wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, scooters and other obstructions in halls etc. because of the age of the passengers, particularly on cruises of 14 days or longer.

If you can't find something to do on a Celebrity cruise...................then you need to stay with HAL where the fold up the carpets after 10PM and I speak from experience
