Quantam of the Seas to homeport in Shanghai

Recommended Posts

But seriously, for anyone who has been on an Oasis class ship .....what is the score with the dining ? I am led to believe that there is a dazzling array of choice as to where you can dine each night.

Are they all included?

Do you have a set "free" venue?

Do you have to book each day?

Do the popular ones get booked out?

If Quantam is going to homeport out of Shanghai , wont all of the food outlets be "Oriental" ?

( Not a bad thing ,as long as you are aware in advance.:D)

When I cruise, I switch to holiday mood and dont want to have the hassle of racing around and booking venues.

Interesting news indeed.

Either way, Quantum has suddenly become much more of an option for us Australians!

Now if they will only get their act together & build us a large terminal or two in Australia we may get some of the larger ships here as well!

The renovations to the OPT this year will include lengthening the wharf to take up to an Oasis Class ship so that is a step in the right direction. ( and we know the check in staff can handle it:D:D)

I did B2B on Oasis last year.

Free dining was the usual two sittings in the MDR and my time dining in the MDR.

Numerous of other dining options that you paid a fee for and needed to book for just like on ROS and VOS plus casual dining at Johnny Rockets and Seafood Shack for a small fee and you could just walk in.

We never had a problem dining whenever we wanted to but we didn't want to book into places like Chops Grille. (You could order a steak from the Chops Grille in the MDR at the same cost as the Chops Grille).

Can't comment as whether food will be Oriental as I'm sure they haven't worked that out that yet.

Loved Oasis and I'm sure I'm going to love Qunatam. Also loved Shanghai as a landbased visit.

Quantum will not have an MDR - the new concept is Dynamic Dining. There will be approx 18 dining venues of which I think 4 or 5 are included in the cruise fare. Everything else is at an extra cost.

There are Asian restaurants in the mix but the you have to remember that the Chinese passengers also cruise to experience new things and they dont exclusively eat 'oriental' food

With Quantum, it is advisable to prebook your dining venues in advance - there is a thread about this on the RCI board

Thanks for the info, it sounds like a lot of the ships now, in that anything that is a specialty restaurant requires a booking as they go fast even with th efees incurred.:D

I am not sure I like having to book every night just to eat, sort of ruins the whole relaxed atmosphere. I much prefer the Anytime/freestyle/select dining options.

Agree, much as I am looking forward to Quantam class the dynamic dining has really put me off. Will have to wait to see how it all sorts out. In the meantime plenty of other ships and new lands to explore :)

After doing My Time Dining over the last several cruises I got used to booking for dinner. We usually did the night before but will probably book online before going from now on given the extra choice of dining options. We missed out on some options on the Oasis and wished I'd been more organized before going.

Being that organised takes away from the 'just relax' part of the holiday for me.:D

Hello Folks

I think that you will find that these cruises will be very different.

You will find heavy smoking to be the norm and the casino's will be very busy indeed.

The smoking issue will put a great many people off these cruises.

The culture of countries in the region are very different than in Australia , we should all be aware of this so as not to have issues when cruising.

Regards

John

They will not be able to change the smoking policy just for this ship. Casinos probably busy yes but I hate casinos anyway so if that's where people congregate then that's fine with me.

I agree, the Casino is a place to avoid even for walking through. If they are all in the casino, than the rest of the ship will feel very spacious indeed.:D

If the Quantum is based in China wouldn't the smoking rules be based on the laws of that country. China doesn't have the same policies that we have here in Australia. Even different provinces have different rules regarding where you can smoke.

The Chinese are the worlds biggest consumers and producers of cigarettes. I spoke to a Chinese Doctor (also a heavy smoker) about this and he informed me that smoking is considered a sign of manhood.

Regards Elaine.

I don't think so. It's a fleet wide policy. Policies aren't always dictated by a countries laws.

Where not limited by law I imagine policies are dictated by whatever they think will make them the most money and result in the least complaints. For an Asian cruise they would be crazy not to relax the smoking policy, or at least not enforce it.

I would imagine that smoking policy would be strictly adherred to in the Cabins and Balconies, however, it is most likely to be relaxed in the open areas on deck (i.e more zones available than the current allotments). Perhaps even the Casino would be a smoking zone as well.:D

Having sailed on the Superstar Virgo out of Hong Kong a few years ago I can attest to the fact that other areas of the ship on a Chinese based cruise are very spacious indeed. The shows were excellent but the theatres were always only half full- a pleasant change from the have- to- get- there- at -least- half- an- hour before- the show situation on other ships.

We will be sailing on the Anthem next Sept but may well cruise on Quantum in 2016 if she stays around Asia.
