Did you happen to do any water excursions?

How is the nightlife on land?

 

Well we went swimming at Elbow Beach and the water was just perfect! Maybe a bit brisk, but we are used to the Jersey shore so it felt great.

 

We stayed aboard the ship for dinner, shows and gaming in the evenings. I did not see any hotspots for nightlife while we were walking through Hamilton.

Was there a Comedian onboard, besides Second City?

 

Yes, there was a comedian / magician show in addition to Second City. However we did not attend any of the shows.

 

We did attend the 11:15pm "late night" edition of Second City, which is an X-rated show, obviously children are not allowed but also don't bring Mom, Dad, or your grandparents unless you like answering questions about your taste in humor.

did you do any sightseeing tours?

 

We bought public transportation tickets for 2-days, which were $25 per person.

 

We did not do any guided tours. The ferry brought us to Hamilton on day-1 and we enjoyed walking, shopping, eating lunch on the waterfront and visiting some of the landmarks.

 

On day-2, we took the #7 bus to Elbow Beach, which is just past Horseshoe Bay. There is a beautiful hotel on the beach, and we were able to rent chaises, umbrellas and purchase drinks and lunch.

 

The sun, sand and water were just excellent.

Robin,

 

Bermuda is not known for it's nightlife. Snorkel Park turns into Club Aqua at night and has beats there most of the nights the cruise ships are in. If you're going on the Breakaway it's open late on Wednesday and Thursday night. If you're going on the Dawn it's open late on Sunday nights. Sometimes one of the nights they have a discount for cruise passengers.

 

In Hamilton there is nightlife but it's very subdued and a pain in the butt to get to from the West End. There's some nice lounges in Hamilton but the turn over rate of clubs and lounges in Hamilton is crazy. Year over year it changes and it's cost prohibitive to go because of the taxi cost. You could take the last ferry over but then you'd have to taxi back and it's one arm and both legs! :eek:

By the way, I forgot to mention Snorkel Park is on the other side of the fort where the cruise ships dock in the West End. If it's been awhile since you've last gone the ships may not have been docking in the West End at the time. I think HAL is the only one that still docks on Front Street in Hamilton! :cool:

Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a good cruise. We are booked for June. Quick question. Did they have any "formal" or "dress up" nights? My wife loves dressing up for dinner and wanted to know if the Breakaway had any formal nights. Thanks so much.

We did Harbor Nights last June when we were there on The Breakaway. It was a very nice night, with food, entertainment, dancers, crafts..... The ferry ran extra ferries back to the ship, so no problems returning to ship. Def recommend it.

PS also make sure you see the glass beach when there... its amazing

Yes Monday night was the "Formal" night, per se.

The Captain comes out and is introduced in the Haven, and then is available for photos in the Atrium.

 

I did not see any truly formal clothes; many men had suit coats or blazers and many women had cocktail dresses or nice skirts/outfits.

 

Definitely not as formal as some other ships. I did not see any tuxedo rental availability.

Breakaway normally pulls into port anywhere between 6am and 7am. Closer to 6am. I watch her pull in every Sunday morning on the webcam.

Can you tell me how much a chair and an umbrella was at Elbow beach?

 

2 lounge chairs, a cocktail table and large umbrella are $50. for the day. Towels are an extra $10.

 

Sandwich and a Corona will run $35 including service charge, but it was good. . .

the ship docks at 7am est

you should be off the boat before 10am to 11am

i live right down the block from the boat i will be getting on this weekend sunday at like 3pm i will not be getting to the boat till then 2pm is crazy so many people going crazy.

 

1st time we came at 4pm lol they where not happy lol it was fine they did not really care that much

 

the thing that seems to happend in bermuda is alot of change of hands and things tend to disappear.

 

last time i was on the boat i bought the $15 pass from a wifi place that i could get on my balcony. i then used WIFI CALLING from TMOBILE to make about 40 mins in calls for free :)

trick is to turn your WIFI CALLING on at home and then shut the phone off and only start it back up when u get to bermuda and connect to the WIFI you pay for once you do that you will have free calls to the US.

do not disconnect the WIFI or the wifi will stop giving you free calls. :)

 

 

$15 well worth it , i made 40 mins in calls and was surfing the web for a few hours

I thought T-mobile calls now from about 100 countries, including Bermuda, are all part of their plan and free now? They would not have been last year though.

Was the casino opened in the evening while in Bermuda? I know there was talk about this being the case but I didn't follow the story. Thanks!
